2 Samuel 24
Darby Bible
1And again the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against IsraelH3478, and he moved DavidH1732 against them sayingH559, Go, numberH4487 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 to JoabH3097 the captain of the host, who was with him, Go, I pray thee, through all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, from DanH1835 even to Beer-sheba, and count the peopleH5971, that I may knowH3045 the numberH4557 of the peopleH5971. 3And JoabH3097 saidH559 to the kingH4428, May Jehovah thy 1GodH430 even addH3254 to the peopleH5971, howH4100 many soever they be, a hundredfold, and that the eyesH5869 of my lord the kingH4428 may seeH7200 [it]; but whyH4100 does my lord the kingH4428 delightH2654 in this thingH1697? 4But the king's wordH1697 prevailedH2388 against JoabH3097, and against the captains of the armyH2428. And JoabH3097 and the captains of the armyH2428 wentH3318 out from the presenceH6440 of the kingH4428 to count the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478. 5And they passedH5674 over the JordanH3383, and encampedH2583 in AroerH6177, on the rightH3225 sideH3225 of the cityH5892 that is in the midstH8432 of the ravine of GadH1410, and toward Jaazer. 6And they cameH935 to GileadH1568, and to the landH776 of Tahtim-hodshi; and cameH935 to Dan-jaan, and to the environs of SidonH6721; 7and they cameH935 to the fortified cityH5892 of TyreH6865, and to all the citiesH5892 of the Hivites and of the CanaanitesH3669; and wentH3318 out to the southH5045 of JudahH3063, to Beer-sheba. 8And they wentH935 through all the landH776, and cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 at the endH7097 of nineH8672 monthsH2320 and twentyH6242 daysH3117. 9And JoabH3097 gaveH5414 the sum of the numberH4557 of the peopleH5971 to the kingH4428; and there wereH1961 of IsraelH3478 eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 valiant menH376 that drewH8025 swordH2719; and the menH376 of JudahH3063 wereH1961 fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 menH376. 10And David's heartH3820 smote him after he had numbered the peopleH5971. And DavidH1732 saidH559 to Jehovah, I have sinnedH2398 greatly in what I have done; and nowH6258, I beseech thee, Jehovah, put away the iniquityH5771 of thy servantH5650; for I have done veryH3966 foolishlyH5528. 11And when DavidH1732 aroseH6965 in the morningH1242, the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to the prophetH5030 GadH1410, David's seerH2374, sayingH559, 12GoH1980 and sayH559 to DavidH1732, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: I impose on thee threeH7969 [thingsH7969]; chooseH977 oneH259 of them that I may do it unto thee. 13And GadH1410 cameH935 to DavidH1732, and toldH5046 him, and saidH559 to him, Shall sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 comeH935 to thee in thy landH776? or wilt thou fleeH5127 threeH7969 monthsH2320 before thine adversaries while they pursueH7291 thee? or shall there beH1961 threeH7969 days' pestilenceH1698 in thy landH776? NowH6258 beH1961 aware and considerH7200 what wordH1697 I shall bringH935 again to him that sentH7971 me. 14And DavidH1732 saidH559 to GadH1410, I am in a great strait: let us fallH5307, I pray thee, into the handH3027 of Jehovah; for his mercies are great; but let me not fallH5307 into the handH3027 of manH120. 15And Jehovah sent a pestilenceH1698 upon IsraelH3478 from the morningH1242 even to the setH5414 timeH6256; and there diedH4191 of the peopleH5971 from DanH1835 even to Beer-sheba seventyH7657 thousandH505 menH376. 16And the angelH4397 stretchedH7971 out his handH3027 upon JerusalemH3389 to destroyH7843 it; but Jehovah repentedH5162 him of the evilH7451, and saidH559 to the angelH4397 that destroyedH7843 among the peopleH5971, It is enoughH7227: withdraw nowH6258 thine handH3027. And the angelH4397 of Jehovah wasH1961 by the threshing-floor of AraunahH728 the JebusiteH2983. 17And DavidH1732 spoke to Jehovah when he sawH7200 the angelH4397 that smote among the peopleH5971, and saidH559, Behold, it is I that have sinnedH2398, and it is I that have committed iniquity; but these sheepH6629, what have they done? let thy handH3027, I pray thee, beH1961 on me, and on my father's houseH1004! 18And GadH1410 cameH935 that dayH3117 to DavidH1732, and saidH559 to him, GoH935 up, rear an altarH4196 to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of AraunahH728 the JebusiteH2983. 19And DavidH1732, according to the saying of GadH1410, wentH5927 up as Jehovah had commandedH6680. 20And AraunahH728 lookedH7200, and sawH7200 the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 comingH3318 on towards him; and AraunahH728 wentH3318 out, and bowedH7812 himself before the kingH4428 with his faceH639 to the groundH776. 21And AraunahH728 saidH559, WhyH4069 is my lord the kingH4428 comeH935 to his servantH5650? And DavidH1732 saidH559, To buyH7069 the threshing-floor of thee, to buildH1129 an altarH4196 to Jehovah, that the plagueH4046 may be stayed from the peopleH5971. 22And AraunahH728 saidH559 to DavidH1732, Let my lordH113 the kingH4428 takeH3947 and offerH5927 up that which is goodH2896 in his sight: seeH7200, [here are] oxenH1241 for the burnt-offering, and the threshing-sledges and implements of the oxenH1241 for woodH6086. 23All these things, O kingH4428, doth AraunahH728 giveH5414 to the kingH4428. And AraunahH728 saidH559 to the kingH4428, Jehovah thy 2GodH430 acceptH7521 thee. 24And the kingH4428 saidH559 to AraunahH728, No; but I will in any case buyH7069 [them] of thee at a price: neither will I offerH5927 up to Jehovah my 3GodH430 burnt-offerings without cost. And DavidH1732 boughtH7069 the threshing-floor and the oxenH1241 for fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701. 25And DavidH1732 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 to Jehovah, and offeredH5927 up burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. And Jehovah was propitious to the landH776, and the plagueH4046 was stayed from IsraelH3478.
