2 Samuel 15
Darby Bible
1And it came to pass after this, that AbsalomH53 prepared for himself chariotsH4818 and horsesH5483, and fiftyH2572 menH376 to runH7323 before him. 2And AbsalomH53 roseH7925 earlyH7925, and stoodH5975 beside the wayH1870 of the gateH8179; and it wasH1961 so, that when any manH376 who had a controversy had to comeH935 to the kingH4428 for judgmentH4941, then AbsalomH53 calledH7121 him, and saidH559, Of what cityH5892 art thou? And he saidH559, Thy servantH5650 is of oneH259 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478. 3And AbsalomH53 saidH559 to him, SeeH7200, thy mattersH1697 are goodH2896 and rightH5228; but there is no man to hearH8085 thee [appointed] by the kingH4428. 4And AbsalomH53 saidH559, Oh that I were madeH7760 judgeH8199 in the landH776, that every manH376 who has any controversy and causeH7379 might comeH935 to me, and I would do him justiceH4941! 5And it wasH1961 so, that when any manH376 came near to do him obeisance, he put forthH7971 his handH3027, and tookH2388 him, and kissedH5401 him. 6And in this mannerH1697 did AbsalomH53 to all IsraelH3478 that cameH935 to the kingH4428 for judgmentH4941; and AbsalomH53 stoleH1589 the heartsH3820 of the menH376 of IsraelH3478. 7And it came to pass at the endH7093 of fortyH705 yearsH8141, that AbsalomH53 saidH559 to the kingH4428, I pray thee, let me go and payH7999 in HebronH2275 my vowH5088 which I have vowedH5087 to Jehovah. 8For thy servantH5650 vowedH5087 a vowH5088 while I abode in GeshurH1650 in Syria, sayingH559, If Jehovah shall bringH7725 me again indeed to JerusalemH3389, then I will serveH5647 Jehovah. 9And the kingH4428 saidH559 to him, Go in peaceH7965. And he roseH6965 up and went to HebronH2275. 10And AbsalomH53 sentH7971 emissaries into all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, When ye hearH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, ye shall sayH559, AbsalomH53 reignsH4427 in HebronH2275. 11And with AbsalomH53 wentH1980 two hundredH3967 menH376 out of JerusalemH3389, that were invited; and they wentH1980 in their simplicity, and they knewH3045 nothing. 12And AbsalomH53 sentH7971 for AhithophelH302 the GiloniteH1526, David's counsellor, from his cityH5892, from GilohH1542, while he offeredH2076 the sacrificesH2077. And the conspiracyH7195 gathered strength; and the peopleH5971 increased continually with AbsalomH53. 13And there cameH935 oneH376 to DavidH1732 who reported sayingH559, The heartsH3820 of the menH376 of IsraelH3478 are after AbsalomH53. 14And DavidH1732 saidH559 to all his servantsH5650 that were with him at JerusalemH3389, RiseH6965 up and let us fleeH1272; for we shall not [else] escapeH6413 from AbsalomH53. BeH1961 quick to depart, lestH6435 he overtakeH5381 us quicklyH4116, and bringH4116 evilH7451 upon us, and smite the cityH5892 with the edge of the swordH2719. 15And the king's servantsH5650 saidH559 to the kingH4428, Behold, thy servantsH5650 [will do] whatever my lordH113 the kingH4428 shall chooseH977. 16And the kingH4428 wentH3318 forthH3318, and all his householdH1004 after him, and the kingH4428 left tenH6235 womenH802, concubinesH6370, to keepH8104 the houseH1004. 17And the kingH4428 wentH3318 forthH3318, and all the peopleH5971 after him, and stayed at the remote house. 18And all his servantsH5650 passedH5674 on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, sixH8337 hundredH3967 menH376 that cameH935 after him from GathH1661, passedH5674 over before the kingH4428. 19And the kingH4428 saidH559 to IttaiH863 the GittiteH1663, WhyH4100 dost thou alsoH1571 goH7725 with us? returnH7725 to thy placeH4725, and abide with the kingH4428; for thou art a foreignerH5237, and besides, thou hast emigrated to the placeH4725 where thou [dwellest]. 20Thou didst comeH935 yesterdayH8543, and should I this dayH3117 make thee goH1980 up and down with us, seeing I goH1980 whither I can? ReturnH7725 and take backH7725 thy brethren. Mercy and truthH571 be with thee! 21And IttaiH863 answered the kingH4428 and saidH559, [As] Jehovah liveth, and [as] my lord the kingH4428 liveth, surely in what placeH4725 my lord the kingH4428 shall beH1961, whether in deathH4194 or lifeH2416, even there also will thy servantH5650 beH1961. 22And DavidH1732 saidH559 to IttaiH863, Go and passH5674 over. And IttaiH863 the GittiteH1663 passedH5674 over, and all his menH376, and all the littleH2945 onesH2945 that were with him. 23And all the country weptH1058 with a loud voiceH6963, and all the peopleH5971 passedH5674 over; the kingH4428 also himself passedH5674 over the torrent KidronH6939, and all the peopleH5971 passedH5674 over, towards the wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057. 24And behold, ZadokH6659 alsoH1571, and all the LevitesH3881 with him, bearingH5375 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of 1GodH430; and they set down the arkH727 of 2GodH430; and AbiatharH54 wentH5927 up, until all the peopleH5971 had passedH5674 completely out of the cityH5892. 25And the kingH4428 saidH559 to ZadokH6659, Carry backH7725 the arkH727 of 3GodH430 into the cityH5892. If I shall findH4672 favour in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah, he will bringH7725 me again, and shew me it, and its habitation. 26But if he thusH3541 sayH559, I have no delightH2654 in thee; behold, [here am] I, let him do to me as seemeth goodH2896 to him. 27And the kingH4428 saidH559 to ZadokH6659 the priestH3548, Thou art the seer: returnH7725 into the cityH5892 in peaceH7965, and your twoH8147 sonsH1121 with you, AhimaazH290 thy sonH1121, and JonathanH3083 the sonH1121 of AbiatharH54. 28SeeH7200, I will stop in the plains of the desert, until there comeH935 wordH1697 from you to inform me. 29And ZadokH6659 and AbiatharH54 carried the arkH727 of 4GodH430 again to JerusalemH3389; and they abode there. 30But DavidH1732 wentH1980 up by the ascentH4608 of the OlivesH2132, and weptH1058 as he wentH1980 up, and had his headH7218 coveredH2645, and he wentH1980 barefootH3182; and all the peopleH5971 that was with him coveredH2645 every manH376 his headH7218, and they wentH1980 up, weepingH1058 as they wentH1980 up. 31And one toldH5046 DavidH1732 sayingH559, AhithophelH302 is among the conspirators with AbsalomH53. Then saidH559 DavidH1732, Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302 into foolishness. 32And it cameH935 to pass, when DavidH1732 had comeH935 to the summit, whereH834 he worshipped 5GodH430, that behold, HushaiH2365 the Archite cameH935 to meet him with his coat rent, and earthH127 upon his headH7218. 33And DavidH1732 saidH559 to him, If thou passest on with me, thou wilt beH1961 a burdenH4853 to me; 34but if thou returnH7725 to the cityH5892, and sayH559 to AbsalomH53, I will beH1961 thy servantH5650, O kingH4428; as I have beenH1961 thy father's servantH5650 hitherto, so nowH6258 will I beH1961 thy servantH5650; thenH227 mayest thou for me defeat the counselH6098 of AhithophelH302. 35And hast thou not there with thee ZadokH6659 and AbiatharH54 the priestsH3548? and it shall beH1961, [that] whatsoever thingH1697 thou shalt hearH8085 out of the king's houseH1004, thou shalt tellH5046 it to ZadokH6659 and AbiatharH54 the priestsH3548. 36Behold, they have there with them their twoH8147 sonsH1121, AhimaazH290 Zadok's [sonH1121], and JonathanH3083 Abiathar's sonH1121; and by them ye shall sendH7971 to me everythingH3605 that ye shall hearH8085. 37And HushaiH2365 David's friendH7463 cameH935 into the cityH5892, and AbsalomH53 cameH935 into JerusalemH3389.
