Ziba, a False Servant
1Now when DavidH1732 had goneH5674 onH5674 1a littleH4592 beyondH4480 the summitH7218, beholdH2009, 2ZibaH6717 the servantH5288 of MephiboshethH4648 metH7122 him 3with a teamH6776 of saddledH2280 donkeysH2543, and on them were twoH3967 hundredH3967 loaves of breadH3899, a hundredH3967 cakesH6778 ofH6778 raisinsH6778, a hundredH3967 summerH7019 fruitsH7019, and a jugH5035 of wineH3196. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 to ZibaH6717, “WhyH4100 do you have theseH428?” And ZibaH6717 saidH559, “4The donkeysH2543 are for the king’sH4428 householdH1004 to rideH7392, the breadH3899 and summerH7019 fruitH7019 are for the youngH5288 menH5288 to eatH398, and the wineH3196, 5for whoever is wearyH3287 in the wildernessH4057 to drinkH8354.” 3Then the kingH4428 saidH559, “And whereH346 is 6your master’sH113 sonH1121?” And 7ZibaH6717 saidH559 to the kingH4428, “BeholdH2009, he is stayingH3427 in JerusalemH3389, for he saidH559, ‘TodayH3117 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 will restoreH7725 the kingdomH4468 of my fatherH1 to me.’” 4So the kingH4428 saidH559 to ZibaH6717, “BeholdH2009, allH3605 that belongs to MephiboshethH4648 is yours.” And ZibaH6717 saidH559, “I prostrateH2331 myself; may I findH4672 favorH2580 in your sightH5869, my lordH113, the kingH4428!”
David Is Cursed
5When KingH4428 DavidH1732 cameH935 to 8BahurimH980, beholdH2009, a manH376 was comingH3318 outH3318 from thereH8033 from the familyH4940 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, and 9his nameH8034 was ShimeiH8096, the sonH1121 of GeraH1617; he was comingH3318 outH3318, 10cursingH7043 as he cameH3318. 6He also threwH5619 stonesH68 at DavidH1732 and allH3605 the servantsH5650 of KingH4428 DavidH1732; and allH3605 the peopleH5971 and allH3605 the warriorsH1368 were on his rightH3225 and on his leftH8040. 7ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 ShimeiH8096 saidH559 when he cursedH7043: “GoH3318 awayH3318, goH3318 awayH3318, 11you manH376 of bloodshedH1818 and worthlessH1100 manH376! 812The LordH3068 has broughtH7725 backH7725 upon you allH3605 13the bloodshedH1818 of the houseH1004 of SaulH7586, inH8478 whoseH834 placeH8478 you have becomeH4427 kingH4427; and the LordH3068 has handedH5414H3027 the kingdomH4410 overH5414 to your sonH1121 AbsalomH53. And beholdH2009, you are caught in your own evilH7463, for you are a manH376 of bloodshedH1818!”
9Then 14AbishaiH52 the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 saidH559 to the kingH4428, “WhyH4100 should 15thisH2088 deadH4191 dogH3611 16curseH7043 my lordH113 the kingH4428? NowH4994 let me goH5674 overH5674 and 17cutH5493 offH5493 his headH7218.” 10But the kingH4428 saidH559, “1819WhatH4100 business of mine is yours, you sonsH1121 of ZeruiahH6870? 20IfH3588 he cursesH7043, and ifH3588 the LordH3068 has toldH559 him, ‘CurseH7043 DavidH1732,’ 21then whoH4310 should sayH559, ‘WhyH4069 have you doneH6213 soH3651?’” 11Then DavidH1732 saidH559 to AbishaiH52 and to allH3605 his servantsH5650, “BeholdH2009, 22my sonH1121 whoH834 cameH3318 outH3318 of my own body seeksH1245 my lifeH5315; howH637 muchH637H3588 moreH637H3588 nowH6258 this BenjaminiteH1145? LeaveH5117 him aloneH5117 and let him curseH7043, 23for the LordH3068 has toldH559 him. 12PerhapsH194 the LordH3068 will lookH7200 on my 24miseryH6040 and 2526returnH7725 goodH2899 to me insteadH8478 ofH8478 his cursingH7045 thisH2088 dayH3117.” 13So DavidH1732 and his menH376 wentH1980 on the roadH1870; and ShimeiH8096 keptH1980 goingH1980 on the hillsideH6763H2022 closeH5980 besideH5980 him, and as he wentH1980 he cursedH7043 and threwH5619 stonesH68 and dirtH6083 at him. 14And the kingH4428 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 whoH834 were with him arrivedH935 exhaustedH5889, and he refreshedH5314 himself thereH8033.
Absalom Enters Jerusalem
1527Then AbsalomH53 and allH3605 the peopleH5971, the menH376 of IsraelH3478, enteredH935 JerusalemH3389, and AhithophelH302 with him. 16Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961, whenH3512 28HushaiH2365 the ArchiteH757, David’sH1732 friendH7463, cameH935 to AbsalomH53, that 29HushaiH2365 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, “30Long liveH2421 the kingH4428! Long liveH2421 the kingH4428!” 17But AbsalomH53 saidH559 to HushaiH2365, “Is thisH2088 your 31loyaltyH2617 to your friendH7453? 32WhyH4100 did you not goH1980 with your friendH7453?” 18So HushaiH2365 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, “NoH3808! For whomeverH834 the LordH3068, thisH2088 peopleH5971, and allH3605 the menH376 of IsraelH3478 have chosenH977, his I shall be, and with him I shall remainH3427. 19BesidesH8145, 33whomH4310 should I serveH5647? Should I not serve in the presenceH6440 of his sonH1121? JustH3512 asH3512 I have servedH5647 in your father’sH1 presenceH6440, soH3651 I shall be in your presenceH6440.”
20Then AbsalomH53 saidH559 to AhithophelH302, “GiveH3051 your adviceH6098. WhatH4100 should we doH6213?” 21AhithophelH302 saidH559 to AbsalomH53, “34HaveH935 relationsH935 withH935 your father’sH1 concubinesH6370, whomH834 he has leftH5117 behindH5117 to takeH8104 careH8104 of the houseH1004; then allH3605 IsraelH3478 will hearH8085 that you have madeH887 yourself repulsiveH887 to your fatherH1. The handsH3027 of allH3605 whoH834 are with you will also be strengthenedH2388.” 22So they pitchedH5186 a tentH168 for AbsalomH53 on the roofH1406, 35and AbsalomH53 hadH935 relationsH935 withH935 his father’sH1 concubinesH6370 36in the sightH5869 of allH3605 IsraelH3478. 23Now 37the adviceH6098 of AhithophelH302, whichH834 he 38gaveH3289 in thoseH1992 daysH3117, was taken as thoughH3512 one inquiredH7592 of the wordH1697 of GodH430; 39soH3651 was allH3605 the adviceH6098 of AhithophelH302 regarded by bothH1571 DavidH1732 and AbsalomH53.
