2“Take vengeanceנְקֹ֗ם נִקְמַת֙ne.Kom nik.MatH5358 H5360onמֵאֵ֖תme.'EtH854the Midianitesהַמִּדְיָנִ֑יםha.mid.ya.NimH4084for the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478.After thatאַחַ֖ר'a.CharH310,you will be gatheredתֵּאָסֵ֥ףte.'a.SefH622toאֶל־'el-H413your peopleעַמֶּֽיךָ׃'a.Mei.khaH5971.”

3So Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872toldוַיְדַבֵּ֤ר אֶל־vay.da.Ber 'el-H1696 H413the peopleהָעָ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔רha.'Am le.MorH5971 H559, “Armהֵחָלְצ֧וּ מֵאִתְּכֶ֛םhe.chal.Tzu me.'i.te.KhemH2502 H854some of your menאֲנָשִׁ֖ים'a.na.ShimH582for warלַצָּבָ֑אla.tza.Va'H6635,that they may goוְיִהְיוּ֙ve.yih.YuH1961againstעַל־'al-H5921the Midianitesמִדְיָ֔ןmid.YanH4080and executeלָתֵ֥תla.TetH5414the LORD’sיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068vengeanceנִקְמַת־nik.mat-H5360on themבְּמִדְיָֽן׃be.mid.YanH4080.

4Sendתִּשְׁלְח֖וּtish.le.ChuH7971into battleלַצָּבָֽא׃la.tza.Va'H6635a thousand menאֶ֚לֶף'E.lefH505from eachלְכֹל֙le.KholH3605tribeלַמַּטֶּ֔הla.ma.TehH4294of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478לַמַּטֶּ֑הla.ma.TehH4294אֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505מַטּ֣וֹתma.TotH4294.”

5So a thousand menמֵאַלְפֵ֣יme.'al.FeiH505were recruitedוַיִּמָּֽסְרוּ֙vai.yi.ma.se.RuH4560from each tribeלַמַּטֶּ֑הla.ma.TehH4294אֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478—twelveשְׁנֵים־ עָשָׂ֥רshe.neim- 'a.SarH8147 H6240thousandאֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505armedחֲלוּצֵ֥יcha.lu.TzeiH2502for warצָבָֽא׃tza.Va'H6635.

7Then they waged warוַֽיִּצְבְּאוּ֙vai.yitz.be.'UH6633againstעַל־'al-H5921Midianמִדְיָ֔ןmid.YanH4080,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068אֶת־'et-H853had commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872,and they killedוַיַּֽהַרְג֖וּvai.ya.har.GuH2026everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָֽר׃za.KharH2145.

13And Mosesמֹשֶׁ֨הmo.ShehH4872,Eleazarוְאֶלְעָזָ֧רve.'el.'a.ZarH499the priestהַכֹּהֵ֛ןha.ko.HenH3548,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the leadersנְשִׂיאֵ֥יne.si.'EiH5387of the congregationהָעֵדָ֖הha.'e.DahH5712wentוַיֵּ֨צְא֜וּvai.Ye.tze.'UH3318to meet themלִקְרָאתָ֑ם אֶל־lik.ra.Tam 'el-H7122 H413outsideמִח֖וּץmi.ChutzH2351the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃La.ma.cha.NehH4264.

14But Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872was angryוַיִּקְצֹ֣ףvai.yik.TzofH7107withעַ֖ל'alH5921the officersפְּקוּדֵ֣יpe.ku.DeiH6485of the armyהֶחָ֑יִלhe.Cha.yilH2428—the commandersשָׂרֵ֤יsa.ReiH8269of thousandsהָאֲלָפִים֙ha.'a.la.FimH505and commandersוְשָׂרֵ֣יve.sa.ReiH8269of hundredsהַמֵּא֔וֹתha.me.'otH3967—who were returningהַבָּאִ֖יםha.ba.'ImH935fromמִצְּבָ֥אmi.tze.Va'H6635the battleהַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ha.mil.cha.MahH4421.

17So nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258,killהִרְג֥וּhir.GuH2026allכָל־khol-H3605the boysזָכָ֖ר בַּטָּ֑ףza.Khar ba.TafH2145 H2945,as well asהֲרֹֽגוּ׃ha.Ro.guH2026everyוְכָל־ve.kholH3605womanאִשָּׁ֗ה'i.ShahH802who has had relations withיֹדַ֥עַת אִ֛ישׁ לְמִשְׁכַּ֥בyo.Da.'at 'ish le.mish.KavH3045 H376 H4904a manזָכָ֖רza.KharH2145,
