3“Our fatherאָבִינוּ֮'a.vi.NuH1diedמֵ֣תmetH4191in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּר֒ba.mid.BarH4057,but heוְה֨וּאve.Hu'H1931wasהָיָ֜הha.YahH1961notלֹא־lo'-H3808amongבְּת֣וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the followersהָעֵדָ֗הha.'e.DahH5712of Korahקֹ֑רַחKo.rachH7141who gathered togetherהַנּוֹעָדִ֛יםha.no.'a.DimH3259againstעַל־'al-H5921the LORDיְהוָ֖ה בַּעֲדַת־Yah.weh ba.'a.dat-H3068 H5712.Insteadכִּֽי־ki-H3588,he diedמֵ֔תMetH4191because of his own sinבְחֶטְא֣וֹve.chet.'OH2399,and he hadהָ֥יוּHa.yuH1961noלֹא־lo'-H3808sonsוּבָנִ֖יםu.va.NimH1121.

4Whyלָ֣מָּהLa.mahH4100should the nameשֵׁם־shem-H8034of our fatherאָבִ֙ינוּ֙'a.Vi.nuH1disappearיִגָּרַ֤עyi.ga.Ra'H1639fromמִתּ֣וֹךְmi.TokhH8432his clanמִשְׁפַּחְתּ֔וֹmish.pach.ToH4940becauseכִּ֛יkiH3588he had noאֵ֥ין'einH369sonsבֵּ֑ןBenH1121?Giveתְּנָה־te.nah-H5414uspropertyאֲחֻזָּ֔ה'a.chu.ZahH272amongבְּת֖וֹךְbe.TokhH8432our father’sאָבִֽינוּ׃'a.Vi.nuH1brothersאֲחֵ֥י'a.CheiH251.”

5So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872אֶת־'et-H853broughtוַיַּקְרֵ֥בvai.yak.RevH7126their caseמִשְׁפָּטָ֖ןmish.pa.TanH4941beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068,

6and the LORDיְהוָ֖ה אֶל־Yah.weh 'el-H3068 H413answeredוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559himמֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃mo.Sheh le.MorH4872 H559,

7“The daughtersבְּנ֣וֹתbe.NotH1323of Zelophehadצְלָפְחָד֮tze.la.fe.ChadH6765speakדֹּבְרֹת֒doe.RotH1696correctlyכֵּ֗ןKenH3651.You certainly must giveH5414thempropertyאֲחֻזַּ֣ת'a.chu.ZatH272as an inheritanceנַחֲלָ֔הna.cha.LahH5159amongבְּת֖וֹךְbe.TokhH8432their father’sאֲבִיהֶ֑ם'a.vi.HemH1brothersאֲחֵ֣י'a.CheiH251and transferוְהַֽעֲבַרְתָּ֛ve.ha.'a.var.TaH5674theirאֶת־'et-H853father’sאֲבִיהֶ֖ן'a.vi.HenH1inheritanceנַחֲלַ֥תna.cha.LatH5159to them.

8Furthermoreוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413,you shall sayתְּדַבֵּ֣ר לֵאמֹ֑רte.da.Ber le.MorH1696 H559to the Israelitesבְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478, ‘Ifכִּֽי־ki-H3588a manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376diesיָמ֗וּתya.MutH4191and leaves noאֵ֣ין'einH369sonוּבֵן֙u.VenH1121,you are to transferוְהַֽעֲבַרְתֶּ֥םve.ha.'a.var.TemH5674אֶת־'et-H853his inheritanceנַחֲלָת֖וֹna.cha.la.ToH5159to his daughterלְבִתּֽוֹ׃le.vi.ToH1323.

9Ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518he has noאֵ֥ין'einH369daughterבַּ֑תBatH1323,giveוּנְתַתֶּ֥םu.ne.ta.TemH5414אֶת־'et-H853his inheritanceנַחֲלָת֖וֹna.cha.la.ToH5159to his brothersלְאֶחָיו׃le.'e.chavH251.

10Ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518he has noאֵ֥ין'einH369brothersאַחִ֑ים'a.ChimH251,giveוּנְתַתֶּ֥םu.ne.ta.TemH5414אֶת־'et-H853his inheritanceנַחֲלָת֖וֹna.cha.la.ToH5159to his father’sאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1brothersלַאֲחֵ֥יla.'a.CheiH251.

11And ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518his fatherלְאָבִיו֒le.'a.VivH1has noאֵ֣ין'einH369brothersאַחִים֮'a.ChimH251,giveוּנְתַתֶּ֣םu.ne.ta.TemH5414אֶת־'et-H853his inheritanceנַחֲלָת֗וֹna.cha.la.ToH5159to the nextהַקָּרֹ֥ב אֵלָ֛יוha.ka.Ro 'e.LavH7138 H413of kinלִשְׁאֵר֞וֹlish.'e.RoH7607from his clanמִמִּשְׁפַּחְתּ֖וֹmi.mish.pach.ToH4940,that he may take possession of itוְיָרַ֣שׁve.ya.RashH3423אֹתָ֑הּ'o.TahH853.This is to beוְֽהָ֨יְתָ֜הve.Ha.ye.TahH1961a statutoryלְחֻקַּ֣תle.chu.KatH2708ordinanceמִשְׁפָּ֔טmish.PatH4941for the Israelitesלִבְנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙liv.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680אֶת־'et-H853Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃ סmo.ShehH4872.’”

Moses Requests a Successor

(Deuteronomy 3:23–29)

12Then the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872, “Go upעֲלֵ֛ה אֶל־'a.Leh 'el-H5927 H413thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088mountainהַ֥רharH2022of the Abarim rangeהָעֲבָרִ֖יםha.'a.va.RimH5682and seeוּרְאֵה֙u.re.'EhH7200אֶת־'et-H853the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I have givenנָתַ֖תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414the Israelitesלִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃liv.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478.

13After you have seen itוְרָאִ֣יתָהve.ra.'I.tahH7200אֹתָ֔הּ'o.TahH853,youאָ֑תָּה'A.tahH859too willגַּם־gam-H1571be gatheredוְנֶאֱסַפְתָּ֥ve.ne.'e.saf.TaH622toאֶל־'el-H413your peopleעַמֶּ֖יךָ'a.Mei.khaH5971,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֥רka.'a.SherH834your brotherאָחִֽיךָ׃'a.Chi.khaH251Aaronאַהֲרֹ֥ן'a.ha.RonH175wasנֶאֱסַ֖ףne.'e.SafH622;

14forכַּאֲשֶׁר֩ka.'a.SherH834when the congregationהָֽעֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712contendedבִּמְרִיבַת֙bim.ri.VatH4808in the Wildernessבְּמִדְבַּר־be.mid.bar-H4057of Zinצִ֗ןTzinH6790,both of you rebelledמְרִיתֶ֨םme.ri.TemH4784against My commandפִּ֜יpiH6310to show My holinessלְהַקְדִּישֵׁ֥נִיle.hak.di.She.niH6942in their sightלְעֵינֵיהֶ֑םle.'ei.nei.HemH5869regarding the watersבַמַּ֖יִםva.Ma.yimH4325.”Thoseהֵ֛םhemH1992were the watersמֵֽי־mei-H4325of Meribahמְרִיבַ֥תme.ri.VatH4809in Kadeshקָדֵ֖שׁka.DeshH6946,in the Wildernessמִדְבַּר־mid.bar-H4057of Zinצִֽן׃ פTzinH6790.

15So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872appealedוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413the LORDיְהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃Yah.weh le.MorH3068 H559,

16“May the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of the spiritsהָרוּחֹ֖תha.ru.ChotH7307of allלְכָל־le.kholH3605fleshבָּשָׂ֑רba.SarH1320,appointיִפְקֹ֣דyif.KodH6485a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376overעַל־'al-H5921the congregationהָעֵדָֽה׃ha.'e.DahH5712

17whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834will go outיֵצֵ֣אye.Tze'H3318לִפְנֵיהֶ֗םlif.nei.HemH6440and come inיָבֹא֙ya.Vo'H935before themלִפְנֵיהֶ֔םlif.nei.HemH6440וַאֲשֶׁ֤רva.'a.SherH834,and whoוַאֲשֶׁ֥רva.'a.SherH834will lead them outיוֹצִיאֵ֖םyo.tzi.'EmH3318וַאֲשֶׁ֣רva.'a.SherH834and bring them inיְבִיאֵ֑םye.vi.'EmH935,so that the congregationעֲדַ֣ת'a.DatH5712of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068will notוְלֹ֤אve.Lo'H3808beתִהְיֶה֙tih.YehH1961like sheepכַּצֹּ֕אןka.TzonH6629אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834withoutאֵין־'ein-H369a shepherdרֹעֶֽה׃ro.'EhH7462.”

Joshua to Succeed Moses

(Deuteronomy 31:1–8)

18And the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068repliedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Takeקַח־kach-H3947אֶת־'et-H853Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנ֔וּןNunH5126,a man withאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376the Spiritאֲשֶׁר־ ר֣וּחַ'a.Sher- Ru.achH834 H7307in him,and layוְסָמַכְתָּ֥ve.sa.makh.TaH5564אֶת־'et-H853your handsיָדְךָ֖ya.de.KhaH3027on himעָלָֽיו׃'a.LavH5921.

19Have him standוְהַֽעֲמַדְתָּ֣ve.ha.'a.mad.TaH5975אֹת֗וֹ'o.ToH853beforeלִפְנֵי֙lif.NeiH6440Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֣ר'el.'a.ZarH499the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְלִפְנֵ֖יha.ko.Hen ve.lif.NeiH3548 H6440and the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605congregationהָעֵדָ֑הha.'e.DahH5712,and commissionוְצִוִּיתָ֥הve.tzi.vi.TahH6680himאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853in their sightלְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃le.'ei.nei.HemH5869.

20Conferוְנָתַתָּ֥הve.na.ta.TahH5414on himעָלָ֑יו'a.LavH5921some ofyour authorityמֵהֽוֹדְךָ֖me.hod.KhaH1935,so thatלְמַ֣עַןle.Ma.'anH4616the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605congregationעֲדַ֖ת בְּנֵ֥י'a.Dat be.NeiH5712 H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478will obey himיִשְׁמְע֔וּyish.me.'UH8085.

21He shall standיַעֲמֹ֔דya.'a.ModH5975beforeוְלִפְנֵ֨יve.lif.NeiH6440Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֤ר'el.'a.ZarH499the priestהַכֹּהֵן֙ha.ko.HenH3548,who will seek counselוְשָׁ֥אַלve.Sha.'alH7592for himbefore the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068by the judgmentבְּמִשְׁפַּ֥טbe.mish.PatH4941of the Urimהָאוּרִ֖יםha.'u.RimH224.Atעַל־'al-H5921his commandלִפְנֵ֣י פִּ֨יוlif.Nei pivH6310 H6440,heה֛וּאhu'H1931and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the Israelitesבְּנֵי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֥לbe.nei- Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478with himאִתּ֖וֹ'i.ToH854—the entireוְכָל־ve.kholH3605congregationהָעֵדָֽה׃ha.'e.DahH5712—will go outיֵצְא֜וּ וְעַל־ פִּ֣יוye.tze.'U ve.'al- pivH3318 H5921 H6310and come inיָבֹ֗אוּya.Vo.'uH935.”

22Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872didוַיַּ֣עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213asכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068אֹת֑וֹ'o.ToH853had commanded himצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680.He tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947אֶת־'et-H853Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,had him standוַיַּֽעֲמִדֵ֙הוּ֙vai.ya.'a.mi.De.huH5975beforeלִפְנֵי֙lif.NeiH6440Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֣ר'el.'a.ZarH499the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְלִפְנֵ֖יha.ko.Hen ve.lif.NeiH3548 H6440and the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605congregationהָעֵדָֽה׃ha.'e.DahH5712,

23and laidוַיִּסְמֹ֧ךְvai.yis.MokhH5564אֶת־'et-H853his handsיָדָ֛יוya.DavH3027on himעָלָ֖יו'a.LavH5921and commissioned himוַיְצַוֵּ֑הוּvay.tza.Ve.huH6680,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had instructedדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696throughבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃ פmo.ShehH4872.
