1Then allכָּל־kol-H3605the congregationעֲדַ֨ת'a.DatH5712of the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֧לYis.ra.'ElH3478journeyedוַ֠יִּסְעוּVai.yis.'uH5265bystagesלְמַסְעֵיהֶ֖םle.mas.'ei.HemH4550from the wildernessמִמִּדְבַּר־mi.mid.bar-H4057ofSinסִ֛יןsinH5512,accordingעַל־'al-H5921to thecommandפִּ֣יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,and campedוַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙vai.ya.cha.NuH2583atRephidimבִּרְפִידִ֔יםbir.fi.DimH7508,and thereH369was noH369waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325for the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971to drinkלִשְׁתֹּ֥תlish.TotH8354.

2Therefore the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971quarreledוַיָּ֤רֶבvai.Ya.revH7378with Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Giveתְּנוּ־te.nu-H5414us waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325that we may drinkוְנִשְׁתֶּ֑הve.nish.TehH8354.”And Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Whyמַה־mah-H4100do you quarrelתְּרִיבוּן֙te.ri.VunH7378with me?Whyמַה־mah-H4100do you testתְּנַסּ֖וּןte.na.SunH5254the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068?”

3But the peopleH5971thirstedוַיִּצְמָ֨אvai.yitz.Ma'H6770thereשָׁ֤םshamH8033for waterלַמַּ֔יִםla.Ma.yimH4325; and theygrumbledוַיָּ֥לֶןvai.Ya.lenH3885againstעַל־'al-H5921Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872and saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100,nowזֶּה֙zehH2088,have you broughtהֶעֱלִיתָ֣נוּhe.'e.li.Ta.nuH5927us up from Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֔יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,to killלְהָמִ֥יתle.ha.MitH4191us andour childrenבָּנַ֥יba.NaiH1121andour livestockמִקְנַ֖יmik.NaiH4735with thirstבַּצָּמָֽא׃ba.tza.Ma'H6772?”

4So Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872criedוַיִּצְעַ֤קvai.yitz.'AkH6817out to the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Whatמָ֥הmahH4100shall I doאֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה'e.'e.SehH6213to thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088peopleלָעָ֣םla.'AmH5971? Alittleמְעַ֖טme.'AtH4592moreע֥וֹדodH5750and they will stoneוּסְקָלֻֽנִי׃u.se.ka.Lu.niH5619me.”

5Then the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Passעֲבֹר֙'a.VorH5674beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and takeוְקַ֥חve.KachH3947with you someH4480ofthe eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֣יmi.zik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478;and takeקַ֥חkachH3947in your handבְּיָדְךָ֖be.ya.de.KhaH3027your staffוּמַטְּךָ֗u.ma.te.KhaH4294with whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834you struckהִכִּ֤יתָhi.Ki.taH5221the Nileהַיְאֹ֔רhay.'OrH2975,and goוְהָלָֽכְתָּ׃ve.ha.La.khe.taH1980.

6BeholdH2009,I will standעֹמֵד֩'o.MedH5975beforeלְפָנֶ֨יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you thereשָּׁ֥ם׀shamH8033on the rockהַצּוּר֮ha.TzurH6697atHorebבְּחֹרֵב֒be.cho.RevH2722; andyou shall strikeוְהִכִּ֣יתָve.hi.Ki.taH5221the rockבַצּ֗וּרva.TzurH6697,and waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325will comeוְיָצְא֥וּve.ya.tze.'UH3318out of it, that the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971may drinkוְשָׁתָ֣הve.sha.TahH8354.”And Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213soכֵּן֙kenH3651in the sightלְעֵינֵ֖יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the eldersזִקְנֵ֥יzik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

7He namedוַיִּקְרָא֙ שֵׁ֣םvai.yik.Ra' shemH7121 H8034the placeהַמָּק֔וֹםha.ma.KomH4725Massahמַסָּ֖הma.SahH4532andMeribahוּמְרִיבָ֑הu.me.ri.VahH4809becauseעַל־'al-H5921of the quarrelרִ֣יב׀rivH7379of the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and becauseוְעַ֨לve.'AlH5921theytestedנַסֹּתָ֤םna.so.TamH5254the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Is the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068amongבְּקִרְבֵּ֖נוּbe.kir.Be.nuH7130us, orאִם־'im-H518not?”

8ThenAmalekעֲמָלֵ֑ק'a.ma.LekH6002cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935and foughtוַיִּלָּ֥חֶםvai.yi.La.chemH3898againstעִם־'im-H5973Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478atRephidimבִּרְפִידִֽם׃bir.fi.DimH7508.

9So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֤הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “Chooseבְּחַר־be.char-H977menH376for us and goוְצֵ֖אve.Tze'H3318out, fightהִלָּחֵ֣םhi.la.ChemH3898against Amalekבַּעֲמָלֵ֑קba.'a.ma.LekH6002.Tomorrowמָחָ֗רma.CharH4279I will stationH5324myselfH5324on the topרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of the hillהַגִּבְעָ֔הha.giv.'AhH1389withthe staffוּמַטֵּ֥הu.ma.TehH4294of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430in my handבְּיָדִֽי׃be.ya.DiH3027.”

10Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091didוַיַּ֣עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213as Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872toldאָֽמַר־'a.mar-H559him,and foughtלְהִלָּחֵ֖םle.hi.la.ChemH3898against Amalekבַּעֲמָלֵ֑קba.'a.ma.LekH6002;and Mosesוּמֹשֶׁה֙u.mo.ShehH4872,Aaronאַהֲרֹ֣ן'a.ha.RonH175, andHurוְח֔וּרve.ChurH2354wentעָל֖וּ'a.LuH5927up to the topרֹ֥אשׁroshH7218of the hillהַגִּבְעָֽה׃ha.giv.'AhH1389.

11So it cameוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961about whenH3512Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872heldיָרִ֥יםya.RimH7311his handיָד֖וֹya.DoH3027up, that Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478prevailedוְגָבַ֣רve.ga.VarH1396,and whenH3512he let his handיָד֖וֹya.DoH3027downיָנִ֛יחַya.Ni.achH5117,Amalekעֲמָלֵֽק׃'a.ma.LekH6002prevailedוְגָבַ֥רve.ga.VarH1396.

12But Moses’ handsוִידֵ֤יvi.DeiH3027were heavyכְּבֵדִ֔יםke.ve.DimH3515.Then they tookוַיִּקְחוּ־vai.yik.chu-H3947a stoneאֶ֛בֶן'E.venH68and putוַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760it underתַחְתָּ֖יוtach.TavH8478him, and he satוַיֵּ֣שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427on it; and Aaronוְאַהֲרֹ֨ןve.'a.ha.RonH175and Hurוְח֜וּרve.ChurH2354supportedתָּֽמְכ֣וּta.me.KhuH8551his handsבְיָדָ֗יוve.ya.DavH3027,oneאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259on oneH2088sideH2088and oneאֶחָ֔ד'e.ChadH259on the otherH2088.Thus his handsיָדָ֛יוya.DavH3027were steadyאֱמוּנָ֖ה'e.mu.NahH530untilעַד־'ad-H5704the sunהַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ha.Sha.meshH8121setבֹּ֥אbo'H935.

13So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091overwhelmedוַיַּחֲלֹ֧שׁvai.ya.cha.LoshH2522Amalekעֲמָלֵ֥ק'a.ma.LekH6002and his peopleעַמּ֖וֹa.MoH5971with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃ פCha.revH2719.

14Then the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Writeכְּתֹ֨בke.ToH3789thisH2088ina bookבַּסֵּ֔פֶרba.Se.ferH5612as a memorialזִכָּרוֹן֙zi.ka.rOnH2146andreciteוְשִׂ֖ים בְּאָזְנֵ֣יve.Sim be.'a.ze.NeiH7760 H241it to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, thatI will utterlyמָחֹ֤הma.ChohH4229blotאֶמְחֶה֙'em.ChehH4229out the memoryזֵ֣כֶרZe.kherH2143of Amalekעֲמָלֵ֔ק'a.ma.LekH6002from underמִתַּ֖חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064.”

15Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872builtוַיִּ֥בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129analtarמִזְבֵּ֑חַmiz.Be.achH4196and namedוַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹvai.yik.Ra' she.MoH7121 H8034itThe Lordיְהוָ֥ה׀Yah.wehH3068is My Bannerנִסִּֽי׃ni.SiH5251;

16and he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “The Lordיָ֔הּYahH3050has swornיָד֙ עַל־yad 'al-H3027 H5921 H3678;the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068will have warמִלְחָמָ֥הmil.cha.MahH4421against Amalekבַּֽעֲמָלֵ֑קba.'a.ma.LekH6002from generationמִדֹּ֖רmi.DorH1755to generationדֹּֽר׃ פDorH1755.”
