Jehoram Restores the Shunammite’s Land
1Now 1ElishaH477 spokeH1696 to the womanH802 whoseH834 sonH1121 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH2421, sayingH559, “AriseH6965 and goH1980 2with your householdH1004, and sojournH1481 whereverH834 you can sojournH1481; for the 3LordH3068 has calledH7121 for a famineH7458, and 4it will evenH1571 comeH935 on the landH776 for sevenH7651 yearsH8141.” 2So the womanH802 aroseH6965 and didH6213 according to the wordH1697 of the manH376 of GodH430, and she wentH1980 with her householdH1004 and sojournedH1481 in the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 yearsH8141. 3At the endH7097 of sevenH7651 yearsH8141, the womanH802 returnedH7725 from the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430; and she wentH3318 out to 5appealH6817 to the kingH4428 for her houseH1004 and for her fieldH7704. 4Now the kingH4428 was talkingH1696 with 6GehaziH1522, the servantH5288 of the manH376 of GodH430, sayingH559, “PleaseH4994 relateH5608 to me allH3605 the greatH1419 thingsH1419 that ElishaH477 has doneH6213.” 5As he was relatingH5608 to the kingH4428 7howH834 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH2421 the one who was deadH4191, beholdH2009, the womanH802 whoseH834 sonH1121 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH2421 8appealedH6817 to the kingH4428 for her houseH1004 and for her fieldH7704. And GehaziH1522 saidH559, “My lordH113, O kingH4428, thisH2088 is the womanH802 and thisH2088 is her sonH1121, whomH834 ElishaH477 restoredH2421 to lifeH2421.” 6When the kingH4428 askedH7592 the womanH802, she relatedH5608 it to him. So the kingH4428 appointedH5414 for her a certainH259 officerH5631, sayingH559, “RestoreH7725 allH3605 that was hers and allH3605 the produceH8393 of the fieldH7704 from the dayH3117 that she leftH5800 the landH776 even untilH5704 nowH6258.”
Elisha Predicts Evil from Hazael
7Then ElishaH477 cameH935 to 9DamascusH1834. Now 10Ben-hadadH1130 kingH4428 of AramH758 was sickH2470, and it was toldH5046 him, sayingH559, “11The manH376 of GodH430 has comeH935 hereH5704H2008.” 8The kingH4428 saidH559 to 12HazaelH2371, “13TakeH3947 a giftH4503 in your handH3027 and goH1980 to meetH7122 the manH376 of GodH430, and 14inquireH1875 of the LordH3068 by him, sayingH559, ‘Will I recoverH2421 from thisH2088 sicknessH2483?’” 9So HazaelH2371 wentH1980 to meetH7122 him and tookH3947 a giftH4503 in his handH3027, even everyH3605 kind of goodH2898 thingH2898 of DamascusH1834, fortyH705 camels’H1581 loadsH4853; and he cameH935 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him and saidH559, “15Your sonH1121 Ben-hadadH1130 kingH4428 of AramH758 has sentH7971 me to you, sayingH559, ‘Will I recoverH2421 from thisH2088 sicknessH2483?’” 10Then ElishaH477 saidH559 to him, “16GoH1980, sayH559 to him, ‘You will surelyH2421 recoverH2421,’ but the 17LordH3068 has shownH7200 me that he will certainlyH4191 dieH4191.” 11He 18fixedH5975 his gazeH6440 steadilyH7760 on him 19untilH5704 he was ashamedH954, and 20the manH376 of GodH430 weptH1058. 12HazaelH2371 saidH559, “WhyH4069 does my lordH113 weepH1058?” Then he 21answeredH559, “BecauseH3588 22I knowH3045 the evilH7463 that you will doH6213 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478: their strongholdsH4013 you will setH7971 on fireH784, and their youngH970 menH970 you will killH2026 with the swordH2719, and their littleH5768 onesH5768 you 23will dashH7376 in piecesH7376, and their womenH2030 with childH2030 you will ripH1234 up.” 13Then HazaelH2371 saidH559, “But whatH4100 is your servantH5650, 24who is but a dogH3611, that he should doH6213 thisH2088 greatH1419 thingH1697?” And ElishaH477 25answeredH559, “26The LordH3068 has shownH7200 me that you will be kingH4428 overH5921 AramH758.” 14So he departedH1980 from ElishaH477 and returnedH935 to his masterH113, who saidH559 to him, “WhatH4100 did ElishaH477 sayH559 to you?” And he 27answeredH559, “He toldH559 me that 28you would surelyH2421 recoverH2421.” 15On the followingH4283 dayH4283, he tookH3947 the coverH4345 and dippedH2881 it in waterH4325 and spreadH6566 it on his faceH6440, 29so that he diedH4191. And HazaelH2371 becameH4427 kingH4427 in his placeH8478.
Another Jehoram Reigns in Judah
16Now in the fifthH2568 yearH8141 of 30JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, JehoshaphatH3092 being then the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 becameH4427 kingH4427. 17He was 31thirty-twoH7970H8147 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 eightH8083 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 18He walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, justH3512 as the houseH1004 of AhabH256 had doneH6213, for 32the daughterH1323 of AhabH256 becameH1961 his wifeH802; and he didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068. 19However, the LordH3068 was not willingH14 to destroyH7843 JudahH3063, for the sakeH4616 of DavidH1732 His servantH5650, 33sinceH3512 He had 34promisedH559 him to giveH5414 a 35lampH5215 to him through his sonsH1121 alwaysH3605H3117.
20In his daysH3117 36EdomH112 revoltedH6586 from underH8478 the handH3027 of JudahH3063, and madeH4427 a kingH4427 overH5921 themselves. 21Then JoramH3141 crossedH5674 overH5674 to ZairH6811, and allH3605 his chariotsH7393 with him. And he aroseH6965 by nightH3915 and struckH5221 the EdomitesH112 who had surroundedH5437 him and the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393; 37but his 38armyH5971 fledH5127 to their tentsH168. 2239So EdomH112 revoltedH6586 40againstH4480H8478H3027 JudahH3063 to thisH2088 dayH3117. ThenH227 41LibnahH3841 revoltedH6586 at the sameH1931 timeH6256. 23The restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JoramH3141 and allH3605 that he didH6213, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063?
Ahaziah Succeeds Jehoram in Judah
24So JoramH3141 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1 and 42was buriedH6912 with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732; and 43AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 becameH4427 kingH4427 in his placeH8478.
2544In the twelfthH8147H6240 yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began to reignH4427. 2645AhaziahH274 was twenty-twoH6242H8147 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 oneH259 yearH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was AthaliahH6271 the granddaughterH1323 of OmriH6018 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 2746He walkedH1980 in the wayH1870 of the houseH1004 of AhabH256 and didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, like the houseH1004 of AhabH256 had done, becauseH3588 he was a son-in-lawH2860 of the houseH1004 of AhabH256.
28Then he wentH1980 with JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 to warH4421 againstH5973 47HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of AramH758 at 48Ramoth-gileadH7433, and the ArameansH761 49woundedH5221 JoramH3141. 29So 50KingH4428 JoramH3141 returnedH7725 to be healedH7495 in JezreelH3157 of the woundsH4347 whichH834 the ArameansH761 had 51inflictedH5221 on him at 52RamahH7414 when he foughtH3898 againstH854 HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of AramH758. Then 53AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH3381 downH3381 to seeH7200 JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 in JezreelH3157 becauseH3588 he was sickH2470.
