Revised Version 1895

1NowH1571 ElishaH477 had spokenH1696 unto the womanH802, whoseH834 sonH1121 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH2421, sayingH559, AriseH6965, and goH935 thou and thine householdH1004, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORDH3068 hath calledH7121 for a famineH7458; and it shall also comeH935 uponH935 the landH776 sevenH7651 yearsH8141. 2And the womanH802 aroseH6965, and didH6213 accordingH376 to the wordH1697 of the manH376 of GodH430: and sheH1931 wentH6965 with herH802 householdH1004, and sojourned in the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 yearsH8141. 3And it cameH1961 to passH1961 at the sevenH7651 years’ endH7097, that the womanH802 returnedH7725 outH3318 of the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430: and she wentH3318 forthH3318 to cryH6817 unto the kingH4428 for herH413 houseH1004 and for herH413 landH776. 4NowH4994 the kingH4428 was talkingH1696 with GehaziH1522 the servantH5288 of the manH376 of GodH430, sayingH559, TellH559 meH413, I prayH4994 thee, allH3605 the greatH1419 things that ElishaH477 hath doneH6213. 5And it cameH1961 to passH1961, as he was tellingH559 the kingH4428 howH834 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH4191 him that was deadH4191, that, beholdH2009, the womanH802, whoseH834 sonH1121 he had restoredH2421 to lifeH4191, criedH6817 to the kingH4428 for herH413 houseH1004 and for herH413 landH7704. And GehaziH1522 saidH559, My lordH113, O kingH4428, this is the womanH802, and this is herH413 sonH1121, whomH834 ElishaH477 restoredH2421 to lifeH4191. 6And when the kingH4428 askedH7592 the womanH802, sheH834 toldH559 him. SoH5414 the kingH4428 appointedH5414 unto herH3605 a certainH259 officerH5631, sayingH559, RestoreH7725 allH3605 that was hers, and allH3605 the fruits of the fieldH7704 sinceH834 the dayH3117 that sheH834 leftH5800 the landH776, evenH5704 untilH5704 nowH6258. 7And ElishaH477 cameH935 to DamascusH1834; and Ben-hadadH1130 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 was sickH2470; and it was toldH5046 him, sayingH559, The manH376 of GodH430 is comeH935 hither. 8And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto HazaelH2371, TakeH3947 a presentH4503 in thine handH3027, and go meetH7125 the manH376 of GodH430, and inquireH1875 of the LORDH3068 by him, sayingH559, Shall I recoverH2421 of this sicknessH2483? 9SoH3947 HazaelH2371 wentH935 to meetH6440 him, and tookH3947 a presentH4503 with him, even of everyH3605 goodH2898 thingH2088 of DamascusH1834, fortyH705 camels’H1581 burdenH4853, and cameH935 and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him, and saidH559, Thy sonH1121 Ben-hadadH1130 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 hath sentH7971 meH413 to thee, sayingH559, Shall I recoverH2421 of this sicknessH2483. 10And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto him, Go, sayH559 unto him, Thou shalt surelyH3588 recoverH2421; howbeit the LORDH3068 hath shewed meH413 that he shall surelyH3588 dieH4191. 11And he settled his countenanceH6440 stedfastly uponH7760 him, untilH5704 he was ashamedH954: and the manH376 of GodH430 weptH1058. 12And HazaelH2371 saidH559, WhyH4069 weepeth my lordH113? And he answeredH559, BecauseH3588 I knowH3045 the evilH7451 that thou wilt doH6213 unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: their strong holds wilt thou setH7971 on fireH784, and their youngH1121 menH970 wilt thou slayH2026 with the swordH2719, and wilt dashH7376 in piecesH7376 their littleH5768 onesH5768, and ripH1234 upH1234 their womenH2030 with childH2030. 13And HazaelH2371 saidH559, But whatH4100 is thy servantH5650, whichH2088 is but a dogH3611, that he should doH6213 this greatH1419 thingH1697? And ElishaH477 answeredH559, The LORDH3068 hath shewed meH5921 that thou shalt be kingH4428 over SyriaH758. 14Then he departedH935 from ElishaH477, and cameH935 to his masterH113; who saidH559 to him, WhatH4100 saidH559 ElishaH477 to thee? And he answeredH559, He toldH559 meH413 that thou shouldest surelyH935 recoverH2421. 15And it cameH1961 to passH1961 on the morrow, that he tookH3947 the coverlet, and dippedH2881 it in waterH4325, and spreadH6566 it on his faceH6440, SoH3947 that he diedH4191: and HazaelH2371 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 16And in the fifthH2568 yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, JehoshaphatH3092 beingH1121 then kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began to reignH4427. 17ThirtyH7970 and twoH8147 yearsH8141 oldH1121 was he when he beganH1961 to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 eightH8083 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. 18And he walked in the wayH1870 of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, as didH6213 the houseH1004 of AhabH256: for he had the daughterH1323 of AhabH256 to wifeH802: and he didH6213 that whichH834 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068. 19Howbeit the LORDH3068 would notH3808 destroyH7843 JudahH3063, for DavidH1732 his servant’sH5650 sakeH4616, as he promisedH559 him to giveH5414 unto him a lampH5216 for his childrenH1121 alway. 20In his daysH3117 EdomH123 revoltedH6586 from underH8478 the handH3027 of JudahH3063, and made a kingH4428 over themselvesH5921. 21Then JoramH3141 passedH5674 over to ZairH6811, and allH3605 his chariotsH7393 with him: and he roseH6965 upH6965 by nightH3915, and smoteH5221 the EdomitesH123 whichH1931 compassed him aboutH1961, and the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393: and the peopleH5971 fledH5127 to their tentsH168. 22SoH2088 EdomH123 revoltedH6586 from underH8478 the handH3027 of JudahH3063, unto this dayH3117. Then didH3117 LibnahH3841 revolt at the sameH1931 time. 23And the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JoramH3141, and allH3605 that he didH6213, are they notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 24And JoramH3141 sleptH7901 with his fathersH1, and was buriedH6912 with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732: and AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his steadH8478. 25In the twelfth yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 did AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 begin to reignH4427. 26TwoH8147 and twentyH6242 yearsH8141 oldH1121 was AhaziahH274 when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 one yearH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was AthaliahH6271 the daughterH1323 of OmriH6018 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 27And he walked in the wayH1870 of the houseH1004 of AhabH256, and didH6213 that whichH1931 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, as didH6213 the houseH1004 of AhabH256: for he was the son in law of the houseH1004 of AhabH256. 28And he went with JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 to warH4421 againstH5973 HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 at Ramoth-gileadH7433: and the Syrians woundedH5221 JoramH3141. 29And kingH4428 JoramH3141 returnedH7725 to be healedH7495 in JezreelH3157 of the woundsH4347 whichH834 the Syrians had given him at RamahH7414, when he foughtH3898 againstH854 HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758. And AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH3381 downH3381 to seeH7200 JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 in JezreelH3157, becauseH3588 he was sickH2470.
