11When AthaliahH6271 the motherH517 of AhaziahH274 sawH7200 that her sonH1121 was deadH4191, she aroseH6965 and eliminatedH6 allH3605 the royalH4467 2childrenH2233. 2But JehoshebaH3089, the daughterH1323 of KingH4428 JoramH3141, sisterH269 of AhaziahH274, 3tookH3947 JoashH3060 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274 and abductedH1589 him from amongH8432 the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 who were being putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191, and put him and his nurseH3243 in the bedroomH2315H4296. So they hidH5641 him from AthaliahH6271, and he was not putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191. 3So he was kept hiddenH2244 with her in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 for sixH8337 yearsH8141, while AthaliahH6271 was reigningH4427 overH5921 the landH776.

44Now in the seventhH7637 yearH8141 JehoiadaH3077 sentH7971 orders and broughtH3947 the captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 of 5the CaritesH3746 and of the 6guardsH7323, and broughtH935 them to himself at the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. Then he madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them and putH7650 them underH7650 oathH7650 at the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, and showedH7200 them the king’sH4428 sonH1121. 5And he commandedH6680 them, sayingH559, “ThisH2088 is the thingH1697 that you shall doH6213: 7a thirdH7992 of you, who comeH935 inH935 on the SabbathH7676 and keepH8104 watchH4931 over the king’sH4428 houseH1004 6(a thirdH7992 also shall be at the gateH8179 SurH5495, and a thirdH7992 at the gateH8179 behindH310 the 8guardsH7323), 9shall keepH8104 watchH4931 over the houseH1004 10for defenseH4535. 7And twoH8147 partsH3027 of you, allH3605 who goH3318 outH3318 on the SabbathH7676, shall also keepH8104 watchH4931 over the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 for the kingH4428. 8Then you shall surroundH5362H5439H5921 the kingH4428, eachH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027; and whoever comesH935 withinH413 the ranksH7713 shall be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191. And 11you are to be with the kingH4428 when he goesH3318 outH3318 and when he comesH935 inH935.”

9So the captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 12actedH6213 in accordance with everythingH3605 that JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680. And eachH376 oneH376 of them tookH3947 his menH376 who were to comeH935 inH935 on the SabbathH7676, alongH5973 withH5973 those who were to goH3318 outH3318 on the SabbathH7676, and they cameH935 to JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. 10Then 13the priestH3548 gaveH5414 the captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 the spearsH2595 and shieldsH7982 that had been KingH4428 David’sH1732, whichH834 were in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 11The 14guardsH7323 stoodH5975, eachH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027, from the rightH3233 sideH3802 of the houseH1004 to the leftH8042 sideH3802 of the houseH1004, by the altarH4196 and by the houseH1004, aroundH5439 the kingH4428. 12Then he broughtH3318 the king’sH4428 sonH1121 outH3318, and 15putH5414 the crownH5145 on him and gave him 16the testimonyH5715; and they madeH4427 him kingH4427 and anointedH4886 him, and they clappedH5221 their handsH3709 and saidH559, “17Long liveH2421 the kingH4428!”

Then AthaliahH6271 22toreH7167 her clothesH899 and criedH7121 outH7121, “23ConspiracyH7195! ConspiracyH7195!” 15And JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680 the captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 who were appointedH6485 over the armyH2428 and saidH559 to them, “BringH3318 her outH3318 betweenH413H4480H1004 the ranksH7713, and whoever followsH935H310 her, putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 with the swordH2719!” For the priestH3548 saidH559, “She is not to be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 at the houseH1004 of the LordH3068.” 16So they 24seizedH7760H3027 her, and when 25they broughtH935 her to the horses’H5483 entranceH3996 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, she was 26putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 thereH8033.

17Then 27JehoiadaH3077 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 betweenH996 the LordH3068, the kingH4428, and the peopleH5971, that they would be the Lord’sH3068 peopleH5971, and 28betweenH996 the kingH4428 and the peopleH5971. 18And allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776 cameH935 to 29the houseH1004 of BaalH1168 and toreH5422 it downH5422; they thoroughlyH3190 smashedH7665 30his altarsH4196 and his imagesH6754 inH7665 piecesH7665, and they 31killedH2026 MattanH4977 the priestH3548 of BaalH1168 beforeH6440 the altarsH4196. Then the priestH3548 appointedH7760 sentriesH6486 overH5921 the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 19And he tookH3947 the captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 and the 32CaritesH3746, and the 33guardsH7323 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776; and they broughtH3381 the kingH4428 downH3381 from the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, and cameH935 by wayH1870 of 34the gateH8179 of the 35guardsH7323 to the king’sH4428 houseH1004. And he satH3427 on the throneH3678 of the kingsH4428. 20So 36allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoicedH8055 and the cityH5892 wasH8252 37peacefulH8252. For they had putH4191 AthaliahH6271 toH4191 deathH4191 with the swordH2719 at the king’sH4428 houseH1004.
