2 Kings 11
Revised Version 1895
1NowH3588 when AthaliahH6271 the motherH517 of AhaziahH274 sawH7200 that herH3605 sonH1121 was deadH4191, sheH3588 aroseH6965 and destroyedH6 allH3605 the seedH2233 royalH4467. 2But JehoshebaH3089, the daughterH1323 of kingH4428 JoramH3141, sisterH269 of AhaziahH274, tookH3947 JoashH3101 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, and stoleH1589 him awayH3947 from among the king’sH4428 sonsH1121 that were slain, evenH3808 him and his nurseH3243, and putH4191 them in the bedchamber; and they hidH5641 him from AthaliahH6271, soH3947 that he was notH3808 slain. 3And he was with herH5921 hidH2244 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 sixH8337 yearsH8141: and AthaliahH6271 reignedH4427 over the landH776. 4And in the seventhH7637 yearH8141 JehoiadaH3077 sentH7971 and fetched the captainsH8269 over hundredsH3967, of the CaritesH3746 and of the guardH7323, and broughtH935 them to him intoH413 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068; and he madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them, and tookH3947 an oathH7650 of them in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and shewed them the king’sH4428 sonH1121. 5And he commandedH6680 them, sayingH559, This is the thingH1697 that ye shall doH6213: a thirdH7992 partH4480 of youH834, that comeH935 in on the sabbathH7676, shall be keepersH8104 of the watchH8104 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004; 6And a thirdH7992 partH7992 shall be at the gateH8179 SurH5495; and a thirdH7992 partH7992 at the gateH8179 behindH310 the guardH8104: soH853 shall ye keepH8104 the watchH8104 of the houseH1004, and be a barrier. 7And the twoH8147 companies of youH3605, evenH853 allH3605 that goH3318 forthH3318 on the sabbathH7676, shall keepH8104 the watchH8104 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 aboutH413 the kingH4428. 8And ye shall compass the kingH4428 roundH5439 aboutH1961, everyH376 manH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027; and he that cometh withinH5921 the ranksH7713, letH1961 him be slain: and be ye with the kingH4428 when he goeth outH3318, and when he cometh in. 9And the captainsH8269 over hundredsH3967 didH6213 accordingH413 to allH3605 that JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680: and they tookH3947 everyH3605 manH376 his menH376, thoseH3605 that were to comeH935 in on the sabbathH7676, with thoseH3605 that were to goH3318 outH3318 on the sabbathH7676, and cameH935 to JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548. 10And the priestH3548 deliveredH5414 to the captainsH8269 over hundredsH3967 the spearsH2595 and shieldsH7982 that had been kingH4428 David’sH1732, whichH834 were in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 11And the guardH7323 stoodH5975, everyH376 manH376 with his weaponsH3627 in his handH3027, from the rightH3233 sideH3802 of the houseH1004 to the leftH8042 sideH3802 of the houseH1004, alongH5921 by the altarH4196 and the houseH1004, by the kingH4428 roundH5439 aboutH5439. 12Then he broughtH3318 outH3318 the king’sH4428 sonH1121, and putH5414 the crownH5145 uponH5921 him, and gaveH5414 him the testimonyH5715; and they madeH5414 him kingH4428, and anointedH4886 him; and they clappedH5221 their handsH3709, and saidH559, GodH559 save the kingH4428. 13And when AthaliahH6271 heardH8085 the noiseH6963 of the guardH7323 and of the peopleH5971, she cameH935 to the peopleH5971 intoH413 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068: 14and sheH7121 lookedH7200, and, beholdH2009, the kingH4428 stoodH5975 by the pillarH5982, as the mannerH4941 was, and the captainsH8269 and the trumpetsH2689 by the kingH4428; and allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoicedH8056, and blewH8628 with trumpetsH2689. Then AthaliahH6271 rent herH3605 clothesH899, and criedH7121, TreasonH7195, treasonH7195. 15And JehoiadaH3077 the priestH3548 commandedH6680 the captainsH8269 of hundredsH3967 that were setH935 over the host, and saidH559 unto them, Have herH413 forthH3318 between the ranksH7713; and him that followeth herH413 slayH4191 with the swordH2719: for the priestH3548 saidH559, LetH408 herH413 notH408 be slain in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 16SoH935 they madeH7760 wayH1870 for herH935; and she wentH935 by the wayH1870 of the horses’ entryH3996 to the king’sH4428 houseH1004: and there was she slain. 17And JehoiadaH3077 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 betweenH996 the LORDH3068 and the kingH4428 and the peopleH5971, that they should be the LORD’SH3068 peopleH5971; betweenH996 the kingH4428 also and the peopleH5971. 18And allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776 wentH935 to the houseH1004 of BaalH1168, and brake it downH5422: his altarsH4196 and his imagesH6754 brake they in piecesH7665 thoroughlyH3190, and slewH2026 MattanH4977 the priestH3548 of BaalH1168 beforeH6440 the altarsH4196. And the priestH3548 appointedH7760 officersH6486 over the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068. 19And he tookH3947 the captainsH8269 over hundredsH3967, and the CaritesH3746, and the guardH7323, and allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776; and they broughtH935 downH3381 the kingH4428 from the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and cameH935 by the wayH1870 of the gateH8179 of the guardH7323 unto the king’sH4428 houseH1004. And he satH3427 on the throneH3678 of the kingsH4428. 20SoH4191 allH3605 the peopleH5971 of the landH776 rejoicedH8055, and the cityH5892 was quietH8252: and they slew AthaliahH6271 with the swordH2719 at the king’sH4428 houseH1004. 21Jehoash was seven years old when he began to reign.
