1 Samuel 17:4-23
4And there wentH3318 out a champion out of the campH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430, namedH8034 GoliathH1555, of GathH1661, whose heightH1363 was sixH8337 cubitsH520 and a spanH2239. 5And he had a helmetH3553 of brass upon his headH7218, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weightH4948 of the coat was fiveH2568 thousandH505 shekelsH8255 of brass. 6And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelinH3591 of brass between his shouldersH3802. 7And the staff of his spearH2595 was like a weaver’sH707 beamH4500; and his spear’s head weighed sixH8337 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of ironH1270: and his shield-bearer wentH1980 before him. 8And he stoodH5975 and cried unto the armies of IsraelH3478, and saidH559 unto them, WhyH4100 are ye comeH3318 out to setH5975 your battleH4421 in array? am not I a PhilistineH6430, and ye servantsH5650 to SaulH7586? choose you a manH376 for you, and let him comeH3318 down to me. 9If he beH1961 ableH3201 to fightH3898 with me, and kill me, then will we beH1961 your servantsH5650; but if I prevailH3201 against him, and kill him, then shall ye beH1961 our servantsH5650, and serveH5647 us. 10And the PhilistineH6430 saidH559, I defyH2778 the armies of IsraelH3478 this dayH3117; giveH5414 me a manH376, that we may fightH3898 togetherH3162. 11And when SaulH7586 and all IsraelH3478 heardH8085 those wordsH1697 of the PhilistineH6430, they were dismayedH2865, and greatly afraidH3372.
12Now DavidH1732 was the sonH1121 of that EphrathiteH673 of Beth-lehem-judah, whose nameH8034 was JesseH3448; and he had eightH8083 sonsH1121: and the manH376 was an old manH376 in the daysH3117 of SaulH7586, stricken in years among menH376. 13And the threeH7969 eldest sonsH1121 of JesseH3448 had goneH1980 after SaulH7586 to the battleH4421: and the namesH8034 of his threeH7969 sonsH1121 that wentH1980 to the battleH4421 were EliabH446 the first-born, and next unto him AbinadabH41, and the thirdH7992 ShammahH8048. 14And DavidH1732 was the youngestH6996; and the threeH7969 eldest followed SaulH7586. 15Now DavidH1732 wentH1980 to and fro from SaulH7586 to feedH7462 his father’sH1 sheepH6629 at Beth-lehem. 16And the PhilistineH6430 drewH5066 near morning and eveningH6150, and presentedH3320 himself fortyH705 daysH3117.
17And JesseH3448 saidH559 unto DavidH1732 his sonH1121, TakeH3947 now for thy brethren an ephahH374 of this parched grainH7039, and these tenH6235 loaves, and carry them quicklyH7323 to the campH4264 to thy brethren; 18and bringH935 these tenH6235 cheeses unto the captain of their thousandH505, and look how thy brethren fare, and takeH3947 their pledge. 19Now SaulH7586, and they, and all the menH376 of IsraelH3478, were in the vale of ElahH425, fightingH3898 with the PhilistinesH6430. 20And DavidH1732 roseH7925 up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and left the sheepH6629 with a keeperH8104, and tookH5375, and wentH3318, as JesseH3448 had commandedH6680 him; and he cameH935 to the place of the wagons, as the host which was goingH3318 forthH3318 to the fight shoutedH7321 for the battleH4421. 21And IsraelH3478 and the PhilistinesH6430 put the battleH4634 in array, army against army. 22And DavidH1732 leftH5203 his baggage in the handH3027 of the keeperH8104 of the baggage, and ranH7323 to the army, and cameH935 and saluted his brethren. 23And as he talked with them, behold, there cameH5927 up the champion, the PhilistineH6430 of GathH1661, GoliathH1555 by nameH8034, out of the ranks of the PhilistinesH6430, and spake according to the same wordsH1697: and DavidH1732 heardH8085 them.
