1 Festus Φῆστος Phēstos G5347 therefore οὖν oun G3767 , having come G305 into the province ἐπαρχείᾳ eparcheia G1885 , after three τρεῖς treis G5140 days ἡμέρας hēmeras G2250 went G305 up to Jerusalem Ἱεροσόλυμα Hi'erosoluma G2414 from Cæsarea. 2 And the chief ἀρχιερεῖς archiereis G749 priests G749 and the principal men of the Jews Ἰουδαίων Ioudaiōn G2453 informed him against Paul Παύλου Paulou G3972 ; and they besought him , 3 asking αἰτούμενοι aitoumenoi G154 a favor χάριν charin G5485 against him , that he would send G3343 for him to Jerusalem Ἰερουσαλήμ, Ierousalēm G2419 ; laying a plot to kill him on the way ὁδόν.¶ hodon G3598 . 4 Howbeit Festus Φῆστος Phēstos G5347 answered ἀπεκρίθη apekrithē G611 , that Paul Παῦλον Paulon G3972 was kept G5083 in charge at Cæsarea, and that he himself was about to depart thither shortly . 5 Let them therefore οὖν oun G3767 , saith he , that are G1510 of power δυνατοὶ dunatoi G1415 among you go down with me, and if there is G1510 anything τί ti G5100 amiss in the man ἀνδρὶ andri G435 , let them accuse κατηγορείτωσαν katēgoreitōsan G2723 him . 6 And when he had tarried among them not more πλείους pleious G4183 than eight ὀκτὼ oktō G3638 or ten δέκα, deka G1176 days ἡμέρας hēmeras G2250 , he went G2597 down καταβὰς katabas G2597 unto Cæsarea; and on the morrow he sat G2523 on the judgment-seat, and commanded ἐκέλευσεν ekeleusen G2753 Paul Παῦλον Paulon G3972 to be brought G71 . 7 And when he was come καταβεβηκότες katabebēkotes G2597 , the Jews Ἰουδαῖοι Ioudaioi G2453 that had come G2597 down from Jerusalem Ἱεροσολύμων Hi'erosolumōn G2414 stood round about him , bringing against him many πολλὰ polla G4183 and grievous charges which they could not prove ; 8 while Paul Παύλου Paulou G3972 said in his defence, Neither against the law νόμον nomon G3551 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων Ioudaiōn G2453 , nor against the temple ἱερὸν hi'eron G2411 , nor against Cæsar, have I sinned G264 at all . 9 But Festus Φῆστος Phēstos G5347 , desiring G2309 to gain favor χάριν charin G5485 with the Jews Ἰουδαίοις Ioudaiois G2453 , answered ἀποκριθεὶς apokritheis G611 Paul Παύλῳ Paulō G3972 and said G3004 , Wilt thou go G305 up to Jerusalem Ἱεροσόλυμα Hi'erosoluma G2414 , and there be judged G2919 of these things τούτων toutōn G3778 before me ? 11 If then I am G1510 a wrong-doer, and have committed anything τι, ti G5100 worthy ἄξιον axion G514 of death θανάτου thanatou G2288 , I refuse παραιτοῦμαι paraitoumai G3868 not to die ἀποθανεῖν· apothanein G599 ; but if none G3762 of those things G3778 is G1510 true whereof these accuse κατηγοροῦσίν katēgorousin G2723 me , no man G3778 can give me up unto them . I appeal ἐπικαλοῦμαι.¶ epikaloumai G1941 unto Cæsar. 12 Then Τότε Tote G5119 Festus Φῆστος Phēstos G5347 , when he had conferred with the council , answered ἀπεκρίθη· apekrithē G611 , Thou hast appealed ἐπικέκλησαι, epikeklēsai G1941 unto Cæsar: unto Cæsar shalt thou go πορεύσῃ.¶ poreusē G4198 . 13 Now δὲ de G1161 when certain G5100 days Ἡμερῶν Hēmerōn G2250 were passed , Agrippa Ἀγρίππας Agrippas G67 the king βασιλεὺς basileus G935 and Bernice Βερνίκη Bernikē G959 arrived at Cæsarea, and saluted Festus Φῆστον. Phēston G5347 . 15 about whom , when I was at Jerusalem Ἱεροσόλυμα Hi'erosoluma G2414 , the chief ἀρχιερεῖς archiereis G749 priests G749 and the elders πρεσβύτεροι presbuteroi G4245 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων Ioudaiōn G2453 informed me , asking αἰτούμενοι aitoumenoi G154 for sentence against him . 16 To whom I answered ἀπεκρίθην apekrithēn G611 , that it is G1510 not the custom ἔθος ethos G1485 of the Romans Ῥωμαίοις Rhōmaiois G4514 to give up any man ἄνθρωπον anthrōpon G444 , before that the accused G2723 have the accusers κατηγόρους, katēgorous G2725 face πρόσωπον prosōpon G4383 to face G4383 , and have had opportunity τόπον topon G5117 to make his defence concerning περὶ peri G4012 the matter laid against him . 19 but had certain G5100 questions ζητήματα zētēmata G2213 against him of their own ἰδίας idias G2398 religion , and of one G5100 Jesus Ἰησοῦ Iēsou G2424 , who was dead , whom Paul Παῦλος Paulos G3972 affirmed to be alive ζῆν. zēn G2198 . 20 And I , being perplexed ἀπορούμενος aporoumenos G639 how to inquire concerning G4012 these things G3778 , asked whether he would go πορεύεσθαι poreuesthai G4198 to Jerusalem Ἱεροσόλυμα Hi'erosoluma G2414 and there be judged G2919 of these matters. 21 But when Paul Παύλου Paulou G3972 had appealed ἐπικαλεσαμένου epikalesamenou G1941 to be kept G5083 for the decision of the emperor Σεβαστοῦ Sebastou G4575 , I commanded ἐκέλευσα ekeleusa G2753 him to be kept G5083 till I should send him to Cæsar. 22 And Agrippa Ἀγρίππας Agrippas G67 said φησιν phēsin G5346 unto Festus Φῆστον Phēston G5347 , I also καὶ kai G2532 could wish to hear ἀκοῦσαι. akousai G191 the man ἀνθρώπου anthrōpou G444 myself . To-morrow, saith he , thou shalt hear ἀκούσῃ akousē G191 him . 23 So on the morrow, when Agrippa Ἀγρίππα Agrippa G67 was come G2064 , and Bernice Βερνίκης Bernikēs G959 , with great πολλῆς pollēs G4183 pomp , and they were entered εἰσελθόντων eiselthontōn G1525 into the place of hearing with the chief captains and the principal men G435 of the city πόλεως poleōs G4172 , at the command κελεύσαντος keleusantos G2753 of Festus Φήστου Phēstou G5347 Paul Παῦλος.¶ Paulos G3972 was brought G71 in . 24 And Festus Φῆστος· Phēstos G5347 saith, King βασιλεῦ basileu G935 Agrippa Ἀγρίππα Agrippa G67 , and all men G435 who are here ἐνθάδε enthade G1759 present with us , ye behold this man G435 , about whom all the multitude πλῆθος plēthos G4128 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων Ioudaiōn G2453 made suit to me , both at Jerusalem Ἱεροσολύμοις Hi'erosolumois G2414 and here G1759 , crying βοῶντες boōntes G994 that he ought G1163 not to live ζῆν zēn G2198 any longer μηκέτι. mēketi G3371 . 25 But I found that he had committed nothing μηδὲν mēden G3367 worthy ἄξιον axion G514 of death θανάτου thanatou G2288 : and as he himself appealed ἐπικαλεσαμένου epikalesamenou G1941 to the emperor Σεβαστὸν Sebaston G4575 I determined to send πέμπειν pempein G3992 him . 26 Of whom I have no certain G5100 thing to write γράψαι grapsai G1125 unto my lord κυρίῳ kuriō G2962 . Wherefore I have brought G4254 him forth before you , and specially before thee, king βασιλεῦ basileu G935 Agrippa Ἀγρίππα, Agrippa G67 , that , after examination had , I may have somewhat to write γράψω· grapsō G1125 . 27 For it seemeth to me unreasonable, in sending G3992 a prisoner δέσμιον desmion G1198 , not withal to signify the charges G156 against him . ← Acts 24 Acts 26 → American Standard Version — 1901 — Public Domain
