Psalm 59

Revised Version 1895

For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David: Michtam: when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.

DeliverH7971 meH7971 from mine enemies, O my GodH7971: setH7971 meH7971 on high from them that rise upH853 againstH8104 meH7971.
DeliverH5337 meH7682 from the workers of iniquity, and saveH5337 meH7682 from the bloodthirsty men.
For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul; the mighty gather themselvesH205 together againstH376 meH3467: notH3467 for my transgression, nor for my sinH205, O LORD.
They run and prepare themselvesH5315 withoutH3808 my fault: awake thou to help meH5315, and beholdH2009.
Even thou, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, ariseH5782 to visitH7200 all the heathen: be notH3559 merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah
They return at evening, they make a noise like a dog, and go round aboutH3605 the city.
Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?
But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have allH2009 the heathen in derision.
O my strength, I will wait upon thee: for GodH3068 is my highH1471 tower.
The GodH430 of my mercy shall prevent meH413: GodH430 shall let meH413 see my desire uponH413 mine enemies.
Slay them not, lest my peopleH7200 forget: scatter them by thy power, and bringH6923 them down, O LordH2617 our shield.
For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, letH408 them evenH408 be takenH3381 in their pride, and for cursing and lying which they speak.
Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they be no more: and let them know that God ruleth in JacobH5608, unto the ends of the earth. Selah
And at evening let them return, let them makeH3045 a noise like a dog, and go round aboutH3045 the city.
They shall wander up and downH5437 for meat and tarry allH5437 nightH6153 if they be not satisfied.
But I will sing of thy strength; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my high tower, and a refuge in the day of my distress.
Unto thee, O my strengthH5797, will I singH7891 praises: for God is my high tower, the God of my mercy.
