Zechariah Chapter 1
Revised Version 1895
1In the eighthH8066 monthH2320, in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867, cameH1961 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of BerechiahH1296, the sonH1121 of IddoH5714, the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 2The LORDH3068 hath been sore displeasedH7107 with your fathersH1. 3Therefore sayH559 thou unto them, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635: ReturnH7725 unto meH413, saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, and I will returnH7725 unto youH7725, saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635. 4Be ye notH3808 as your fathersH1, unto whomH834 the formerH7223 prophetsH5030 criedH7121, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, ReturnH7725 ye nowH4994 from your evilH7451 waysH1870, and from your evilH7451 doingsH4611: but they didH834 notH3808 hearH8085, norH3808 hearken unto meH413, saith the LORDH3068. 5Your fathersH1, whereH346 are they? and the prophetsH5030, do they liveH2421 for everH5769? 6But my wordsH1697 and my statutesH2706, whichH834 I commandedH6680 my servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, didH6213 they notH3808 overtakeH5381 your fathersH1? and they turnedH7725 and saidH559, Like as the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 thoughtH559 to doH6213 unto usH7725, according to our waysH1870, and according to our doingsH1697, soH3651 hath he dealt with usH7725. 7UponH1961 the fourH702 and twentiethH6242 dayH3117 of the eleventhH6240 monthH2320, whichH1931 is the monthH2320 ShebatH7627, in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867, cameH1961 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto ZechariahH2148 the sonH1121 of BerechiahH1296, the sonH1121 of IddoH5714, the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 8I sawH7200 in the nightH3915, and beholdH2009 a manH376 ridingH7392 uponH5921 a redH122 horseH5483, and he stoodH5975 among the myrtleH1918 treesH1918 that were in the bottom; and behindH310 him there were horsesH5483, redH122, sorrelH8320, and whiteH3836. 9Then saidH559 I, O my lordH113, whatH4100 are theseH428? And the angelH4397 that talkedH1696 with meH413 saidH559 unto meH413, I will shew thee whatH4100 theseH428 be. 10And the manH376 that stoodH5975 among the myrtleH1918 treesH1918 answeredH559 and saidH559, TheseH428 are they whomH834 the LORDH3068 hath sentH7971 to walkH1980 to and froH1980 throughH1980 the earthH776. 11And they answeredH559 the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 that stoodH5975 among the myrtleH1918 treesH1918, and saidH559, WeH1980 have walkedH1980 to and froH1980 throughH1980 the earthH776, and, beholdH2009, allH3605 the earthH776 sitteth stillH5975, and is at restH8252. 12Then the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 answeredH559 and saidH559, O LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, howH834 longH5704 wilt thou notH3808 have mercyH7355 on JerusalemH3389 and on the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, againstH3389 whichH834 thou hast had indignationH2194 theseH2088 threescore and ten yearsH8141? 13And the LORDH3068 answeredH6030 the angelH4397 that talkedH1696 with meH1696 with goodH2896 wordsH1697, evenH853 comfortable wordsH1697. 14SoH3541 the angelH4397 that talkedH1696 with meH413 saidH559 unto meH413, CryH7121 thou, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635: I am jealousH7065 for JerusalemH3389 and for ZionH6726 with a greatH1419 jealousyH7068. 15And I am veryH1419 sore displeasedH7107 with the nationsH1471 that are at easeH7600: for I was but a littleH4592 displeasedH7107, and they helpedH5826 forward the affliction. 16Therefore thusH3541 saith the LORDH3068: I am returnedH7725 to JerusalemH3389 with merciesH7356; my houseH1004 shall be builtH1129 in it, saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, and a line shall be stretchedH5186 forth over JerusalemH3389. 17CryH7121 yet againH5750, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635: My citiesH5892 through prosperityH2896 shall yet be spreadH6327 abroad; and the LORDH3068 shall yet comfortH5162 ZionH6726, and shall yet chooseH977 JerusalemH3389. 18And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. 19And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What be these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. 20And the LORD shewed me four smiths. 21Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.
