Psalm 4

Revised Version 1895

For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

1Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness; thou hast set me at large when I was in distress: have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2O ye sons of menH7121, howH6030 long shall my glory be turned into dishonour? howH6030 long will ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah
3But know that the LORD hath setH1245 apart him that is godly for himselfH1245: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
4Stand in awe, and sin notH3588: commune with your own heartH8085 uponH7121 your bed, and be still. Selah
5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
6Many there be that say, Who will shew usH413 any good? LORDH3068, lift thou upH413 the light of thy countenance uponH413 usH413.
7Thou hast putH5375 gladness in my heart, moreH5921 thanH2896 they have when their corn and their wine are increased.
8In peace will I both layH5414 meH5414 downH5414 and sleep: for thou, LORD, alone makest meH5414 dwell in safety.
