Nahum Chapter 1
Revised Version 1895
1The burdenH4853 of NinevehH5210. The bookH5612 of the visionH2377 of NahumH5151 the ElkoshiteH512. 2The LORDH3068 is a jealousH7072 GodH410 and avengeth; the LORDH3068 avengeth and is full of wrathH2534; the LORDH3068 taketh vengeanceH5358 on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrathH2534 for his enemiesH341. 3The LORDH3068 is slowH750 to angerH639, and greatH1419 in powerH3581, and will by noH3808 meansH5352 clearH5352 the guilty: the LORDH3068 hath his wayH1870 in the whirlwind and in the stormH8183, and the cloudsH6051 are the dustH80 of his feetH7272. 4He rebuketh the seaH3220, and maketh it dryH3001, and drieth upH3001 allH3605 the riversH5104: BashanH1316 languisheth, and CarmelH3760, and the flowerH6525 of LebanonH3844 languisheth. 5The mountainsH2022 quakeH7493 at him, and the hillsH1389 meltH4127; and the earthH776 is upheavedH5375 at his presenceH6440, yea, the worldH8398, and allH3605 that dwellH3427 therein. 6Who canH4310 standH5975 beforeH6440 his indignationH2195? and who canH4310 abide in the fiercenessH2740 of his angerH639? his furyH2534 is pouredH5413 outH4480 like fireH784, and the rocksH6697 are brokenH5422 asunder by him. 7The LORDH3068 is goodH2896, a strongH4581 hold in the dayH3117 of troubleH6869; and he knoweth them that put their trust in him. 8But with an overrunning floodH7858 he will makeH6213 a fullH3617 endH3617 of the placeH4725 thereof, and will pursueH7291 his enemiesH341 into darknessH2822. 9WhatH4100 doH6213 ye imagine againstH413 the LORDH3068? he will makeH6213 a fullH3617 endH3617: affliction shall notH3808 riseH6965 upH6965 the second time. 10For thoughH3588 they be like tangledH5440 thorns, told be drenchedH4390 as it were in their drinkH5435, they shall be devouredH398 utterly as dryH3002 stubbleH7179. 11There is one goneH3318 forthH3318 outH3318 of thee, that imagineth evilH7451 againstH5921 the LORDH3068, that counselleth wickednessH7451. 12ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068: ThoughH518 they be in fullH8003 strength, and likewise manyH7227, evenH5750 soH3651 shall they be cutH1494 down, and he shall passH5674 awayH5750. ThoughH518 I have afflictedH3541 thee, I will afflictH6031 thee noH3808 moreH5750. 13And nowH6258 will I breakH7665 his yokeH4132 from offH5921 thee, and will burstH5423 thy bondsH4147 in sunder. 14And the LORDH3068 hath givenH6680 commandmentH6680 concerning thee, that noH3808 moreH5750 of thy nameH8034 be sownH2232: outH5921 of the houseH1004 of thy godsH430 will I cutH3772 offH3772 the gravenH6459 imageH6459 and the molten imageH6459; I will makeH7760 thy graveH6913; for thou art vile. 15Behold, upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! Keep thy feasts, O Judah, perform thy vows: for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
