2Sarahשָׂרָ֗הsa.RahH8283diedוַתָּ֣מָתva.Ta.motH4191inKiriath-arbaH7153(that is, Hebronחֶבְר֖וֹןchev.RonH2275)in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנָ֑עַןke.Na.'anH3667;and Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֔ם'av.ra.HamH85cameH935inH935to mournלִסְפֹּ֥דlis.PodH5594for Sarahלְשָׂרָ֖הle.sa.RahH8283and to weepוְלִבְכֹּתָֽהּ׃ve.liv.ko.TahH1058for her.

3Then Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֔ם'av.ra.HamH85aroseוַיָּ֙קָם֙vai.Ya.komH6965from mourningbeforeפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440his deadמֵת֑וֹme.ToH4191,and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to thesonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Hethחֵ֖תchetH2845,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

4“I ama strangerגֵּר־ger-H1616and a foreignH8453residentוְתוֹשָׁ֥בve.to.ShavH8453amongעִמָּכֶ֑ם'i.ma.KhemH5973you;giveתְּנ֨וּte.NuH5414me aburialקֶ֙בֶר֙ke.verH6913siteאֲחֻזַּת־'a.chu.zat-H272amongעִמָּכֶ֔ם'i.ma.KhemH5973you so that I may buryוְאֶקְבְּרָ֥הve.'ek.be.RahH6912my deadמֵתִ֖יme.TiH4191out of my sightמִלְּפָנָֽי׃mi.le.fa.NaiH6440.”

5The sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121of Hethחֵ֛תchetH2845answeredוַיַּעֲנ֧וּvai.ya.'a.NuH6030Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֖ם'av.ra.HamH85,sayingלֵאמֹ֥רle.MorH559to him,

6“Hearשְׁמָעֵ֣נוּ׀she.ma.'E.nuH8085us, my lordאֲדֹנִ֗י'a.do.NiH113: you are amightyאֱלֹהִ֤ים'E.lo.HimH430princeנְשִׂ֨יאne.Si'H5387amongבְּתוֹכֵ֔נוּbe.to.Khe.nuH8432us; buryקְבֹ֖רke.VorH6912your deadמֵתֶ֑ךָme.Te.khaH4191in the choicestבְּמִבְחַ֣רbe.miv.CharH4005of our gravesקְבָרֵ֔ינוּke.va.Rei.nuH6913;noneאִ֣ישׁ לֹֽא־'ish lo'-H376 H3808of us will refuseיִכְלֶ֥הyikh.LehH3607you his graveקִבְר֛וֹkiv.RoH6913for buryingמִקְּבֹ֥רmi.ke.VorH6912your deadמֵתֶֽךָ׃me.Te.khaH4191.”

7So Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֛ם'av.ra.HamH85stoodH6965upH6965and bowedH2331to the peopleלְעַם־le.'am-H5971of the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776,the sonsלִבְנֵי־liv.nei-H1121of Hethחֵֽת׃ChetH2845.

8And he spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696with them, sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you are willingנַפְשְׁכֶ֗םnaf.she.KhemH5315to let meburyלִקְבֹּ֤רlik.BorH6912my deadמֵתִי֙me.TiH4191out of my sightמִלְּפָנַ֔יmi.le.fa.NaiH6440,listenשְׁמָע֕וּנִיshe.ma.'U.niH8085to me, and pleadוּפִגְעוּ־u.fig.'u-H6293withEphronבְּעֶפְר֥וֹןbe.'ef.RonH6085the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Zoharצֹֽחַר׃Tzo.charH6714for me,

9that he may giveוְיִתֶּן־ve.yi.ten-H5414me the caveמְעָרַ֤תme.'a.RatH4631of Machpelahהַמַּכְפֵּלָה֙ha.makh.pe.LahH4375whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834he owns, whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834is at the endבִּקְצֵ֣הbik.TzehH7097of his fieldשָׂדֵ֑הוּsa.De.huH7704;for the fullמָלֵ֜אma.Le'H4392priceבְּכֶ֨סֶףbe.Khe.sefH3701let him giveיִתְּנֶ֥נָּהyi.te.Ne.nahH5414it to me inyour presenceבְּתוֹכְכֶ֖םbe.tokh.KhemH8432fora burialקָֽבֶר׃Ka.verH6913siteלַאֲחֻזַּת־la.'a.chu.zat-H272.”

10Now Ephronוְעֶפְר֥וֹןve.'ef.RonH6085was sittingיֹשֵׁ֖בyo.ShevH3427amongבְּת֣וֹךְbe.TokhH8432the sonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Hethחֵ֑תChetH2845;and Ephronעֶפְר֨וֹןef.RonH6085the Hittiteהַחִתִּ֤יha.chi.TiH2850answeredוַיַּעַן֩vai.ya.'AnH6030Abrahamאַבְרָהָם֙'av.ra.HamH85so that the sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121of Hethחֵ֔תChetH2845heardבְּאָזְנֵ֣יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241,that is, allלְכֹ֛לle.KholH3605who enteredבָּאֵ֥יba.'EiH935the gateשַֽׁעַר־sha.'ar-H8179of his cityעִיר֖וֹi.RoH5892,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

11“Noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808,my lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113,listenשְׁמָעֵ֔נִיshe.ma.'E.niH8085to me;I giveנָתַ֣תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414you the fieldהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704,and I giveנְתַתִּ֑יהָne.ta.Ti.haH5414you the caveוְהַמְּעָרָ֥הve.ha.me.'a.RahH4631that is in it. In the presenceלְעֵינֵ֧יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121of my peopleעַמִּ֛י'a.MiH5971I giveנְתַתִּ֥יהָne.ta.Ti.haH5414it to you; buryקְבֹ֥רke.VorH6912your deadמֵתֶֽךָ׃me.Te.khaH4191.”

12And Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֔ם'av.ra.HamH85bowedH2331beforeלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440the peopleעַ֥ם'amH5971of the landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.

13But he spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696to Ephronעֶפְר֜וֹןef.RonH6085so that the peopleעַם־'am-H5971of the landהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776heardבְּאָזְנֵ֤יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you will onlyאַ֛ךְ'akhH389pleaseל֖וּluH3863listenשְׁמָעֵ֑נִיshe.ma.'E.niH8085to me; I will giveנָתַ֜תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414the priceכֶּ֤סֶףKe.sefH3701of the fieldהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704,acceptקַ֣חkachH3947itfrom me so that I may buryוְאֶקְבְּרָ֥הve.'ek.be.RahH6912my deadמֵתִ֖יme.TiH4191thereשָֽׁמָּה׃Sha.mahH8033.”

14Then Ephronעֶפְר֛וֹןef.RonH6085answeredוַיַּ֧עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֖ם'av.ra.HamH85,sayingלֵאמֹ֥רle.MorH559to him,

15“My lordאֲדֹנִ֣י'a.do.NiH113,listenשְׁמָעֵ֔נִיshe.ma.'E.niH8085to me: a plot oflandאֶרֶץ֩'e.RetzH776worthfourאַרְבַּ֨ע'ar.Ba'H702hundredמֵאֹ֧תme.'OtH3967shekelsשֶֽׁקֶל־she.kel-H8255of silverכֶּ֛סֶףKe.sefH3701--whatמַה־mah-H4100is that betweenH996me and you? So buryקְבֹֽר׃ke.VorH6912your deadמֵתְךָ֖me.te.KhaH4191.”

17SoEphron’sעֶפְר֗וֹןef.RonH6085fieldשְׂדֵ֣הse.DehH7704,whichH834was in Machpelahבַּמַּכְפֵּלָ֔הba.makh.pe.LahH4375,whichH834facedלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440Mamreמַמְרֵ֑אmam.Re'H4471,the fieldהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704and the caveוְהַמְּעָרָ֣הve.ha.me.'a.RahH4631whichH834was in it, and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the treesהָעֵץ֙ha.'EtzH6086whichH834were in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֔הba.sa.DehH7704, that werewithin allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the confinesסָבִֽיב׃sa.VivH5439of its borderגְּבֻל֖וֹge.vu.LoH1366,were deededH6965overH6965

18to Abrahamלְאַבְרָהָ֥םle.'av.ra.HamH85as a possessionלְמִקְנָ֖הle.mik.NahH4736in the presenceלְעֵינֵ֣יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121of Hethחֵ֑תChetH2845,before allבְּכֹ֖לbe.KholH3605who enteredבָּאֵ֥יba.'EiH935the gateשַֽׁעַר־sha.'ar-H8179of his cityעִירֽוֹ׃i.RoH5892.
