5So he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Do you knowהַיְדַעְתֶּ֖םhay.da'.TemH3045Labanלָבָ֣ןla.VanH3837thesonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nahorנָח֑וֹרna.ChorH5152?”And they saidוַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “We knowיָדָֽעְנוּ׃ya.Da.'e.nuH3045him.”
6And he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Is it wellהֲשָׁל֣וֹםha.sha.LomH7965with him?” And they saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “It is wellשָׁל֔וֹםsha.LomH7965,and hereוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009is his daughterבִּתּ֔וֹbi.ToH1323Rachelרָחֵ֣לra.ChelH7354comingבָּאָ֖הba.'AhH935with the sheepהַצֹּֽאן׃ha.TzonH6629.”
7Then he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Lookהֵ֥ןhenH2005,it is stillעוֹד֙'OdH5750highגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117;it is not timeעֵ֖ת'etH6256for the livestockהַמִּקְנֶ֑הha.mik.NehH4735to be gatheredהֵאָסֵ֣ףhe.'a.SefH622.Waterהַשְׁק֥וּhash.KuH8248the sheepהַצֹּ֖אןha.TzonH6629,and goוּלְכ֥וּu.le.KhuH1980,pastureרְעֽוּ׃re.'UH7462them.”

12Jacobיַעֲקֹ֜בya.'a.KoH3290toldוַיַּגֵּ֨דvai.ya.GedH5046Rachelלְרָחֵ֗לle.ra.ChelH7354that he was arelativeאֲחִ֤י'a.ChiH251of her fatherאָבִ֙יהָ֙'a.Vi.haH1and that he was Rebekah’sרִבְקָ֖הriv.KahH7259sonבֶן־ven-H1121, andshe ranוַתָּ֖רָץva.Ta.rotzH7323and toldוַתַּגֵּ֥דva.ta.GedH5046her fatherלְאָבִֽיהָ׃le.'a.Vi.haH1.
13So whenLabanלָבָ֜ןla.VanH3837heardכִשְׁמֹ֨עַkhish.Mo.a'H8085the newsשֵׁ֣מַע׀She.ma'H8088about Jacobיַעֲקֹ֣בya.'a.KoH3290,his sister’sאֲחֹת֗וֹ'a.cho.ToH269sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,he ranוַיָּ֤רָץvai.Ya.rotzH7323to meetלִקְרָאתוֹ֙lik.ra.ToH7122him, andembracedוַיְחַבֶּק־vay.cha.bek-H2263him and kissedוַיְנַשֶּׁק־vay.na.shek-H5401him, and broughtוַיְבִיאֵ֖הוּvay.vi.'E.huH935him to his houseבֵּית֑וֹbei.ToH1004.Then he toldוַיְסַפֵּ֣רvay.sa.PerH5608Labanלְלָבָ֔ןle.la.VanH3837allכָּל־kol-H3605theseהָאֵֽלֶּה׃ha.'E.lehH428thingsהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697.
14And Labanלָבָ֔ןla.VanH3837saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “You certainlyאַ֛ךְ'akhH389aremy boneעַצְמִ֥י'atz.MiH6106and my fleshוּבְשָׂרִ֖יu.ve.sa.RiH1320.”And he stayedוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427with him a monthחֹ֥דֶשׁCho.deshH2320.
15Then Labanלָבָן֙la.VanH3837saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Jacobלְיַעֲקֹ֔בle.ya.'a.KoH3290, “Becauseהֲכִי־ha.khi-H3588you are my relativeאָחִ֣י'a.ChiH251,should you therefore serveוַעֲבַדְתַּ֖נִיva.'a.vad.Ta.niH5647me forH2600nothingחִנָּ֑םchi.NamH2600?Tellהַגִּ֥ידָהha.Gi.dahH5046me, whatמַה־mah-H4100shallyour wagesמַּשְׂכֻּרְתֶּֽךָ׃mas.kur.Te.khaH4909be?”
16Now Labanוּלְלָבָ֖ןu.le.la.VanH3837had twoשְׁתֵּ֣יshe.TeiH8147daughtersבָנ֑וֹתva.NotH1323;the nameשֵׁ֤םshemH8034of the olderהַגְּדֹלָה֙ha.ge.do.LahH1419was Leahלֵאָ֔הle.'AhH3812,and the nameוְשֵׁ֥םve.ShemH8034of the youngerהַקְּטַנָּ֖הha.ke.ta.NahH6996was Rachelרָחֵֽל׃ra.ChelH7354.
17And Leah’sלֵאָ֖הle.'AhH3812eyesוְעֵינֵ֥יve.'ei.NeiH5869were weakרַכּ֑וֹתra.KotH7390,but Rachelוְרָחֵל֙ve.ra.ChelH7354wasbeautifulH3303in figureתֹּ֖אַרTo.'arH8389and appearanceמַרְאֶֽה׃mar.'EhH4758.
18Now Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290lovedוַיֶּאֱהַ֥בvai.ye.'e.HavH157Rachelרָחֵ֑לra.ChelH7354,so he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will serveאֶֽעֱבָדְךָ֙'e.'e.va.de.KhaH5647you sevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651yearsשָׁנִ֔יםsha.NimH8141for your youngerהַקְּטַנָּֽה׃ha.ke.ta.NahH6996daughterבִּתְּךָ֖bi.te.KhaH1323Rachelבְּרָחֵ֥לbe.ra.ChelH7354.”
19Labanלָבָ֗ןla.VanH3837saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It is betterט֤וֹבTovH2896that I giveתִּתִּ֣יti.TiH5414her to you thanH4480to giveמִתִּתִּ֥יmi.ti.TiH5414her to anotherאַחֵ֑ר'a.CherH312manלְאִ֣ישׁle.'IshH376;stayשְׁבָ֖הshe.VahH3427with me.”
20So Jacobיַעֲקֹ֛בya.'a.KoH3290servedוַיַּעֲבֹ֧דvai.ya.'a.VodH5647sevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651yearsשָׁנִ֑יםsha.NimH8141for Rachelבְּרָחֵ֖לbe.ra.ChelH7354,and they seemedוַיִּהְי֤וּ בְעֵינָיו֙vai.yih.Yu ve.'ei.NavH1961H5869to him like onlya fewאֲחָדִ֔ים'a.cha.DimH259daysכְּיָמִ֣יםke.ya.MimH3117because of his loveבְּאַהֲבָת֖וֹbe.'a.ha.va.ToH160for her.

Laban’s Treachery

21Then Jacobיַעֲקֹ֤בya.'a.KoH3290saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Labanלָבָן֙la.VanH3837, “Giveהָבָ֣הha.VahH3051memy wifeאִשְׁתִּ֔י'ish.TiH802, for mytimeיָמָ֑יya.MaiH3117is completedמָלְא֖וּmal.'UH4390, that I mayhaveH935relationsH935withH935her.”
22So Labanלָבָ֛ןla.VanH3837gatheredוַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ףvai.ye.'e.SofH622allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleH376of the placeהַמָּק֖וֹםha.ma.KomH4725and heldוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213a feastמִשְׁתֶּֽה׃mish.TehH4960.
23Now in the eveningבָעֶ֔רֶבva.'E.revH6153he tookוַיִּקַּח֙vai.yi.KachH3947his daughterבִתּ֔וֹvi.ToH1323Leahלֵאָ֣הle.'AhH3812and broughtH935her to him; and JacobhadH935relationsH935withH935her.
24Labanלָבָן֙la.VanH3837also gaveוַיִּתֵּ֤ןvai.yi.TenH5414his femaleH8198slaveH8198Zilpahזִלְפָּ֖הzil.PahH2153to his daughterבִתּ֖וֹvi.ToH1323Leahלְלֵאָ֥הle.le.'AhH3812as a slaveH8198.
25So it cameH1961aboutH1961in the morningבַבֹּ֔קֶרva.Bo.kerH1242that, beholdוְהִנֵּה־ve.hi.neh-H2009,it was Leahלֵאָ֑הle.'AhH3812!And he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Labanלָבָ֗ןla.VanH3837, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100is thisH2088thatyou have doneעָשִׂ֣יתָ'a.Si.taH6213to me? Was it not for Rachelבְרָחֵל֙ve.ra.ChelH7354that I servedעָבַ֣דְתִּי'a.Vad.tiH5647with you? Whyוְלָ֖מָּהve.La.mahH4100then have youdeceivedרִמִּיתָֽנִי׃ri.mi.Ta.niH7411me?”
26But Labanלָבָ֔ןla.VanH3837saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It is notthe practiceיֵעָשֶׂ֥ה כֵ֖ןye.'a.Seh khenH6213H3651in our placeבִּמְקוֹמֵ֑נוּbim.ko.Me.nuH4725tomarryH5414offH5414the youngerהַצְּעִירָ֖הha.tze.'i.RahH6810beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440the firstbornהַבְּכִירָֽה׃ha.be.khi.RahH1067.
27Completeמַלֵּ֖אma.Le'H4390the weekשְׁבֻ֣עַshe.Vu.a'H7620of thisH2088oneH2088,and we will giveוְנִתְּנָ֨הve.ni.te.NahH5414you the otherH2088alsoגַּם־gam-H1571for the serviceבַּעֲבֹדָה֙ba.'a.vo.DahH5656whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you shall serveתַּעֲבֹ֣דta.'a.VodH5647with me, for anotherאֲחֵרֽוֹת׃'a.che.RotH312sevenשֶֽׁבַע־she.va'-H7651yearsשָׁנִ֥יםsha.NimH8141.”
28Jacobיַעֲקֹב֙ya.'a.KoH3290didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213soכֵּ֔ןKenH3651and completedוַיְמַלֵּ֖אvay.ma.Le'H4390her weekשְׁבֻ֣עַshe.Vu.a'H7620,and he gaveוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414him his daughterבִּתּ֖וֹbi.ToH1323Rachelרָחֵ֥לra.ChelH7354as his wifeלְאִשָּֽׁה׃le.'i.ShahH802.
29Labanלָבָן֙la.VanH3837also gaveוַיִּתֵּ֤ןvai.yi.TenH5414his femaleH8198slaveH8198Bilhahבִּלְהָ֖הbil.HahH1090to his daughterבִּתּ֔וֹbi.ToH1323Rachelלְרָחֵ֣לle.ra.ChelH7354as her slaveH8198.
30So JacobhadH935relationsH935withH935Rachelרָחֵ֔לra.ChelH7354alsoגַּ֣םgamH1571,and indeedגַּֽם־gam-H1571he lovedוַיֶּאֱהַ֥בvai.ye.'e.HavH157Rachelרָחֵ֖לra.ChelH7354moreH4480thanH4480Leahמִלֵּאָ֑הmi.le.'AhH3812,and he servedוַיַּעֲבֹ֣דvai.ya.'a.VodH5647with Laban foranotherאֲחֵרֽוֹת׃'a.che.RotH312sevenשֶֽׁבַע־she.va'-H7651yearsשָׁנִ֥יםsha.NimH8141.
31Now the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sawוַיַּ֤רְאvai.Yar'H7200that Leahלֵאָ֔הle.'AhH3812wasunlovedשְׂנוּאָ֣הse.nu.'AhH8130,and He openedוַיִּפְתַּ֖חvai.yif.TachH6605her wombרַחְמָ֑הּrach.MahH7358,but Rachelוְרָחֵ֖לve.ra.ChelH7354was unableH6135toH6135haveH6135childrenH6135.
32Leahלֵאָה֙le.'AhH3812conceivedוַתַּ֤הַרva.Ta.harH2029and gaveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּ֔ןBenH1121,and namedוַתִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹva.tik.Ra' she.MoH7121H8034himReubenרְאוּבֵ֑ןre.'u.VenH7205,for she saidאָֽמְרָ֗ה'a.me.RahH559, “BecauseH3588the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068hasseenרָאָ֤הra.'AhH7200my afflictionבְּעָנְיִ֔יbe.'on.yiH6040;surelyH3588nowעַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH6258my husbandאִישִֽׁי׃'i.ShiH376will loveיֶאֱהָבַ֥נִיye.'e.ha.Va.niH157me.”
33Then she conceivedוַתַּ֣הַרva.Ta.harH2029againעוֹד֮'OdH5750and gaveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּן֒benH1121,and saidוַתֹּ֗אמֶרva.To.merH559, “BecauseH3588the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068hasheardשָׁמַ֤עsha.Ma'H8085that I amunlovedשְׂנוּאָ֣הse.nu.'AhH8130,He has therefore givenוַיִּתֶּן־vai.yi.ten-H5414me thisזֶ֑הZehH2088sonalsoגַּם־gam-H1571.”So she namedוַתִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹva.tik.Ra' she.MoH7121H8034him Simeonשִׁמְעֽוֹן׃shim.'onH8095.
34And she conceivedוַתַּ֣הַרva.Ta.harH2029againעוֹד֮'OdH5750and gaveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּן֒benH1121,and saidוַתֹּ֗אמֶרva.To.merH559, “Nowעַתָּ֤ה'a.TahH6258thisH6471timeהַפַּ֙עַם֙ha.Pa.'amH6471my husbandאִישִׁי֙'i.ShiH376will becomeH3867attachedH3867to me, becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588I have borneH3205him threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֣הshe.lo.ShahH7969sonsבָנִ֑יםva.NimH1121.”Thereforeעַל־ כֵּ֥ן'al- kenH5921H3651he was namedקָרָֽא־ שְׁמ֖וֹka.ra'- she.MoH7121H8034Leviלֵוִֽי׃le.ViH3878.
