Jacob’s Prophecy concerning His Sons

1Then Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290summonedוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121his sonsבָּנָ֑יוba.NavH1121and saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Assembleהֵאָֽסְפוּ֙he.'a.se.FuH622yourselves, so that I may tellוְאַגִּ֣ידָהve.'a.Gi.dahH5046you whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834will happenיִקְרָ֥אyik.Ra'H7122to you in thedaysהַיָּמִֽים׃hai.ya.MimH3117to comeבְּאַחֲרִ֥יתbe.'a.cha.RitH319.

2Gatherהִקָּבְצ֥וּhi.ka.ve.TzuH6908together and listenוְשִׁמְע֖וּve.shim.'UH8085,sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֑בya.'a.KoH3290; Yes,listenוְשִׁמְע֖וּve.shim.'UH8085to Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֥לYis.ra.'ElH3478your fatherאֲבִיכֶֽם׃'a.vi.KhemH1.

3“Reubenרְאוּבֵן֙re.'u.VenH7205,you are my firstbornבְּכֹ֣רִיbe.Kho.riH1060,My mightכֹּחִ֖יko.ChiH3581andthe beginningוְרֵאשִׁ֣יתve.re.ShitH7225of my strengthאוֹנִ֑י'o.NiH202,Preeminentיֶ֥תֶרYe.terH3499in dignityשְׂאֵ֖תse.'EtH7613and preeminentוְיֶ֥תֶרve.Ye.terH3499in powerעָֽז׃'AzH5794.

4Uncontrollableפַּ֤חַזPa.chazH6349as waterכַּמַּ֙יִם֙ka.Ma.yimH4325,you shall not haveH3498preeminenceH3498,Becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588you wentH5927upH5927to your father’sאָבִ֑יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1bedמִשְׁכְּבֵ֣יmish.ke.VeiH4904;Thenאָ֥ז'azH227you defiledחִלַּ֖לְתָּchi.Lal.taH2490it--he wentH5927upH5927to my couchיְצוּעִ֥יye.tzu.'IH3326.

5“Simeonשִׁמְע֥וֹןshim.'onH8095and Leviוְלֵוִ֖יve.le.ViH3878are brothersאַחִ֑ים'a.ChimH251; Theirswordsמְכֵרֹתֵיהֶֽם׃me.khe.ro.tei.HemH4380are implementsכְּלֵ֥יke.LeiH3627of violenceחָמָ֖סcha.MasH2555.

6May my soulנַפְשִׁ֔יnaf.ShiH5315not enterתָּבֹ֣אta.Vo'H935into their councilבְּסֹדָם֙be.so.DamH5475;May my gloryכְּבֹדִ֑יke.vo.DiH3519not be unitedתֵּחַ֣דte.ChadH3161with their assemblyבִּקְהָלָ֖םbik.ha.LamH6951;For in their angerבְאַפָּם֙ve.'a.PamH639they killedהָ֣רְגוּHa.re.guH2026menאִ֔ישׁ'IshH376,And in their self-willוּבִרְצֹנָ֖םu.vir.tzo.NamH7522they lamedH6136oxenשֽׁוֹר׃ShorH7794.

7Cursedאָר֤וּר'a.RurH779be their angerאַפָּם֙'a.PamH639,for it is fierceעָ֔ז'AzH5794;And their wrathוְעֶבְרָתָ֖םve.'ev.ra.TamH5678,for it isH7185cruelH7185.I will scatterאֲחַלְּקֵ֣ם'a.cha.le.KemH2505them in Jacobבְּיַעֲקֹ֔בbe.ya.'a.KoH3290,And disperseוַאֲפִיצֵ֖םva.'a.fi.TzemH6327them among Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

8“As for you, Judahיְהוּדָ֗הye.hu.DahH3063,your brothersאַחֶ֔יךָ'a.Chei.khaH251shall praiseיוֹד֣וּךָyo.Du.khaH3034you;Your handיָדְךָ֖ya.de.KhaH3027shall be on the neckבְּעֹ֣רֶףbe.'O.refH6203of your enemiesH340;Your father’sאָבִֽיךָ׃'a.Vi.khaH1sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121shall bowH2331downH2331to you.

9Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063is alion’sH743cubגּ֤וּרgurH1482;From the preyמִטֶּ֖רֶףmi.Te.refH2964,my sonבְּנִ֣יbe.NiH1121,you have goneH5927upH5927. Hecrouchesכָּרַ֨עka.Ra'H3766,he liesH7257downרָבַ֧ץra.VatzH7257as a lionH743, And as alionוּכְלָבִ֖יאu.khe.la.Vi'H3833,whoמִ֥יmiH4310dares to stirH6965him upH6965?

10The scepterשֵׁ֙בֶט֙she.vetH7626will not departיָס֥וּרya.SurH5493fromH5493Judahמִֽיהוּדָ֔הmi.hu.DahH3063,Norלֹֽא־lo'-H3808the ruler’sוּמְחֹקֵ֖קu.me.cho.KekH2710staffH2710from betweenמִבֵּ֣יןmi.BeinH996his feetרַגְלָ֑יוrag.LavH7272,Untilעַ֚ד כִּֽי־'ad ki-H5704 H3588Shilohשִׁיל֔וֹshi.lohH7886comesיָבֹ֣אya.Vo'H935, And to him shall bethe obedienceיִקְּהַ֥תyi.ke.HatH3349of the peoplesעַמִּֽים׃'a.MimH5971.

11He tiesאֹסְרִ֤י'o.se.RiH631hisfoalעִיר֔וֹi.roH5895to the vineלַגֶּ֙פֶן֙la.Ge.fenH1612,And his donkey’sאֲתֹנ֑וֹ'a.to.NoH860coltבְּנִ֣יbe.NiH1121to the choiceוְלַשֹּׂרֵקָ֖הve.la.so.re.KahH8321vineH8321;He washesכִּבֵּ֤סki.BesH3526his garmentsלְבֻשׁ֔וֹle.vu.ShoH3830in wineבַּיַּ֙יִן֙bai.Ya.yinH3196,And his robesסוּתֽוֹ׃su.toH5497in the bloodוּבְדַם־u.ve.dam-H1818of grapesעֲנָבִ֖ים'a.na.VimH6025.

12His eyesעֵינַ֖יִם'ei.Na.yimH5869aredullחַכְלִילִ֥יchakh.li.LiH2447from wineמִיָּ֑יִןmi.Ya.yinH3196,And his teethשִׁנַּ֖יִםshi.Na.yimH8127whiteוּלְבֶן־u.le.ven-H3836from milkמֵחָלָֽב׃ פme.cha.LavH2461.

13“Zebulunזְבוּלֻ֕ןze.vu.LunH2074will resideיִשְׁכֹּ֑ןyish.KonH7931at the seashoreלְח֥וֹף יַמִּ֖יםle.Chof ya.MimH3220 H2348; And he shall bea harborלְח֣וֹףle.ChofH2348for shipsאֳנִיּ֔וֹת'o.ni.YotH591,And his flankוְיַרְכָת֖וֹve.yar.kha.ToH3411shall betowardעַל־'al-H5921Sidonצִידֹֽן׃ סtzi.DonH6721.

14“Issacharיִשָּׂשכָ֖רyi.so.sh.KharH3485is astrongגָּ֑רֶםGa.remH1634donkeyחֲמֹ֣רcha.MorH2543,LyingH7257downרֹבֵ֖ץro.VetzH7257betweenבֵּ֥יןbeinH996the sheepfoldsהַֽמִּשְׁפְּתָֽיִם׃Ha.mish.pe.Ta.yimH4942.

15When he sawוַיַּ֤רְאvai.Yar'H7200that a restingמְנֻחָה֙me.nu.ChahH4496placeH4496was goodH2896And that the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776wasH5276pleasantנָעֵ֑מָהna.'E.mahH5276,He bowedוַיֵּ֤טvai.YetH5186his shoulderשִׁכְמוֹ֙shikh.MoH7926to carryלִסְבֹּ֔לlis.BolH5445burdens,And becameוַיְהִ֖יvay.HiH1961a slaveעֹבֵֽד׃ ס'o.VedH5647at forcedH4522laborלְמַס־le.mas-H4522.

16“Danדָּ֖ןdanH1835shalljudgeיָדִ֣יןya.DinH1777his peopleעַמּ֑וֹa.MoH5971,As oneכְּאַחַ֖דke.'a.ChadH259of the tribesשִׁבְטֵ֥יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

17Danדָן֙danH1835shall be a serpentנָחָ֣שׁna.ChashH5175in the wayדֶ֔רֶךְDe.rekhH1870,A hornedH8207viperH8207in the pathאֹ֑רַח'O.rachH734,That bitesהַנֹּשֵׁךְ֙ha.no.sheKhH5391the horse’sס֔וּסSusH5483heelsעִקְּבֵי־'i.ke.vei-H6119,So that its riderרֹכְב֖וֹro.khe.VoH7392fallsוַיִּפֹּ֥לvai.yi.PolH5307backwardאָחֽוֹר׃'a.ChorH268.

18For Your salvationלִֽישׁוּעָתְךָ֖li.shu.'a.te.KhaH3444I waitקִוִּ֥יתִיki.Vi.tiH6960, Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

19“As for Gadגָּ֖דgadH1410,a bandגְּד֣וּדge.DudH1416ofH1416raidersH1416shall attackיְגוּדֶ֑נּוּye.gu.De.nuH1464him,But he will attackיָגֻ֥דya.GudH1464at theirheelsעָקֵֽב׃ ס'a.KevH6119.

20“As forAsherמֵאָשֵׁ֖רme.'a.SherH836, hisfoodלַחְמ֑וֹlach.MoH3899shall berichשְׁמֵנָ֣הshe.me.NahH8082,And he will yieldיִתֵּ֖ןyi.TenH5414royalמֶֽלֶךְ׃ סMe.lekhH4428delicaciesמַֽעֲדַנֵּי־ma.'a.da.nei-H4574.

21“Naphtaliנַפְתָּלִ֖יnaf.ta.LiH5321is a doeאַיָּלָ֣ה'ai.ya.LahH355letH7971looseH7971;He uttersהַנֹּתֵ֖ןha.no.TenH5414beautifulשָֽׁפֶר׃ סSha.ferH8233wordsאִמְרֵי־'im.rei-H561.

22“Josephיוֹסֵ֔ףyo.SefH3130is a fruitfulפֹּרָת֙po.RatH6509branchבֵּ֤ןbenH1121,A fruitfulפֹּרָ֖תpo.RatH6509branchבֵּ֥ןbenH1121by a springעָ֑יִן'A.yinH5869; Itsbranchesבָּנ֕וֹתba.NotH1323hangצָעֲדָ֖הtza.'a.DahH6805overH5921a wallשֽׁוּר׃ShurH7791.

23The archersבַּעֲלֵ֥י חִצִּֽים׃ba.'a.Lei chi.TzimH1167 H2671provokedוַֽיְמָרֲרֻ֖הוּvay.ma.ra.Ru.huH4843him,And shotוָרֹ֑בּוּva.Ro.buH7232at himand wereH7852hostileH7852towardH7852him;

30in thecaveבַּמְּעָרָ֞הba.me.'a.RahH4631that is in the fieldבִּשְׂדֵ֧הbis.DehH7704of Machpelahהַמַּכְפֵּלָ֛הha.makh.pe.LahH4375,whichH834is oppositeעַל־ פְּנֵי־'al- pe.nei-H5921 H6440Mamreמַמְרֵ֖אmam.Re'H4471,in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנָ֑עַןke.Na.'anH3667,whichH834Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֜ם'av.ra.HamH85boughtקָנָ֨הka.NahH7069along with the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֗הha.sa.DehH7704from Ephronעֶפְרֹ֥ן'ef.RonH6085the Hittiteהַחִתִּ֖יha.chi.TiH2850as aburialקָֽבֶר׃Ka.verH6913siteלַאֲחֻזַּת־la.'a.chu.zat-H272.

32the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֛הha.sa.DehH7704and the caveוְהַמְּעָרָ֥הve.ha.me.'a.RahH4631that is in it, purchasedמִקְנֵ֧הmik.NehH4735from the sonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Hethחֵֽת׃ChetH2845.”
