1So Isaacיִצְחָ֛קyitz.ChakH3327calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290andblessedוַיְבָ֣רֶךְvay.Va.rekhH1288him and commandedוַיְצַוֵּ֙הוּ֙vay.tza.Ve.huH6680him, saying to him, “You shall not takeתִקַּ֥חti.KachH3947a wifeאִשָּׁ֖ה'i.ShahH802from the daughtersמִבְּנ֥וֹתmi.be.NotH1323of Canaanכְּנָֽעַן׃ke.Na.'anH3667.

2Ariseק֥וּםkumH6965,goלֵךְ֙leKhH1980to Paddan-aramפַּדֶּ֣נָֽהpa.De.nahH6307,to the houseבֵּ֥יתָהBei.tahH1004ofBethuelבְתוּאֵ֖לve.tu.'ElH1328your mother’sאִמֶּ֑ךָ'i.Me.khaH517fatherאֲבִ֣י'a.ViH1;and from thereמִשָּׁם֙mi.ShamH8033takeוְקַח־ve.kach-H3947to yourself a wifeאִשָּׁ֔ה'i.ShahH802from the daughtersמִבְּנ֥וֹתmi.be.NotH1323of Labanלָבָ֖ןla.VanH3837,your mother’sאִמֶּֽךָ׃'i.Me.khaH517brotherאֲחִ֥י'a.ChiH251.

3MayGodוְאֵ֤לve.'ElH410Almightyשַׁדַּי֙sha.DaiH7706blessיְבָרֵ֣ךְye.va.RekhH1288you andmakeוְיַפְרְךָ֖ve.yaf.re.KhaH6509you fruitfulH6509andmultiplyוְיַרְבֶּ֑ךָve.yar.Be.khaH7235you, so that you may becomeוְהָיִ֖יתָve.ha.Yi.taH1961amultitudeלִקְהַ֥לlik.HalH6951of peoplesעַמִּֽים׃'a.MimH5971.

4May He also giveוְיִֽתֶּן־ve.yi.ten-H5414you theblessingבִּרְכַּ֣תbir.KatH1293of Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֔ם'av.ra.HamH85, to you and to yourdescendantsוּלְזַרְעֲךָ֣u.le.zar.'a.KhaH2233with you, so that you maypossessלְרִשְׁתְּךָ֙le.rish.te.KhaH3423the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776whereH4033youliveH4033asH4033aH4033strangerH4033,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430gaveנָתַ֥ןna.TanH5414to Abrahamלְאַבְרָהָֽם׃le.'av.ra.HamH85.”

5ThenIsaacיִצְחָק֙yitz.ChakH3327sentH7971Jacobיַעֲקֹ֔בya.'a.KoH3290awayH7971,and he wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Paddan-aramפַּדֶּ֣נָֽהpa.De.nahH6307to Labanלָבָ֤ןla.VanH3837,sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Bethuelבְּתוּאֵל֙be.tu.'ElH1328the Arameanהָֽאֲרַמִּ֔יha.'a.ra.MiH761,the brotherאֲחִ֣י'a.ChiH251of Rebekahרִבְקָ֔הriv.KahH7259,the motherאֵ֥ם'emH517of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290and Esauוְעֵשָֽׂו׃ve.'e.SavH6215.

6Now Esauעֵשָׂ֗ו'e.SavH6215sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200that Isaacיִצְחָק֮yitz.ChakH3327had blessedבֵרַ֣ךְve.RakhH1288Jacobיַעֲקֹב֒ya.'a.KoH3290and sentH7971him awayH7971to Paddan-aramפַּדֶּ֣נָֽהpa.De.nahH6307to takeלָקַֽחַת־la.ka.chat-H3947to himself a wifeאִשָּׁ֑ה'i.ShahH802from thereמִשָּׁ֖םmi.ShamH8033, and thatwhen he blessedבְּבָרֲכ֣וֹbe.va.ra.KhoH1288him he commandedוַיְצַ֤וvay.TzavH6680him, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “You shall not takeתִקַּ֥חti.KachH3947a wifeאִשָּׁ֖ה'i.ShahH802from the daughtersמִבְּנ֥וֹתmi.be.NotH1323of Canaanכְּנָֽעַן׃ke.Na.'anH3667,”

7and that Jacobיַעֲקֹ֔בya.'a.KoH3290had obeyedוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085his fatherאָבִ֖יו'a.VivH1and his motherאִמּ֑וֹ'i.MoH517and had goneוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Paddan-aramפַּדֶּ֥נָֽהpa.De.nahH6307.

8So Esauעֵשָׂ֔ו'e.SavH6215sawוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200thatthe daughtersבְּנ֣וֹתbe.NotH1323of Canaanכְּנָ֑עַןke.Na.'anH3667displeasedרָע֖וֹתra.'otH7451his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1Isaacיִצְחָ֥קyitz.ChakH3327;

9and Esauעֵשָׂ֖ו'e.SavH6215wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֑אלyish.ma.'ElH3458, andmarriedוַיִּקַּ֡ח נָשָׁ֖יוvai.yi.Kach na.ShavH3947 H802,besidesעַל־'al-H5921the wivesלְאִשָּֽׁה׃ סle.'i.ShahH802that he had, Mahalathמָחֲלַ֣ת׀ma.cha.LatH4258the daughterבַּת־bat-H1323of Ishmaelיִשְׁמָעֵ֨אלyish.ma.'ElH3458,Abraham’sאַבְרָהָ֜ם'av.ra.HamH85sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,the sisterאֲח֧וֹת'a.ChotH269of Nebaiothנְבָי֛וֹתne.va.YotH5032.

10Then Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290departedוַיֵּצֵ֥אvai.ye.Tze'H3318fromBeershebaH884and wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980towardHaranחָרָֽנָה׃cha.Ra.nahH2771.

11And hehappenedH6293uponH6293aparticular placeבַּמָּק֜וֹםba.ma.KomH4725and spentH3885theH3885nightוַיָּ֤לֶןvai.Ya.lenH3885thereשָׁם֙shamH8033,becauseכִּי־ki-H3588the sunהַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁha.She.meshH8121had setבָ֣אva'H935;and he tookוַיִּקַּח֙vai.yi.KachH3947one of the stonesמֵאַבְנֵ֣יme.'av.NeiH68of the placeהַמָּק֔וֹםha.ma.KomH4725and madeוַיָּ֖שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760it a supportH4763forH4763his headמְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֑יוme.ra.'a.sho.TavH4763,and layH7901downוַיִּשְׁכַּ֖בvai.yish.KavH7901in that placeבַּמָּק֥וֹםba.ma.KomH4725.

12Andhe hadH2492aH2492dreamוַֽיַּחֲלֹ֗םvai.ya.cha.LomH2492,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֤הve.hi.NehH2009,a ladderסֻלָּם֙su.LamH5551was setH5324upH5324on the earthאַ֔רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776with its topוְרֹאשׁ֖וֹve.ro.ShoH7218reachingמַגִּ֣יעַma.Gi.a'H5060to heavenהַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָהha.sha.Ma.ye.mahH8064;and beholdוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009,the angelsמַלְאֲכֵ֣יmal.'a.KheiH4397of Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430were ascendingעֹלִ֥ים'o.LimH5927and descendingוְיֹרְדִ֖יםve.yo.re.DimH3381on it.

13Then beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068was standingנִצָּ֣בni.TzavH5324aboveH5921it and saidוַיֹּאמַר֒vai.yo.MarH559, “I am the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵי֙'e.lo.HeiH430of your fatherאָבִ֔יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1Abrahamאַבְרָהָ֣ם'av.ra.HamH85and the Godוֵאלֹהֵ֖יve.lo.HeiH430of Isaacיִצְחָ֑קyitz.ChakH3327;the landהָאָ֗רֶץha.'A.retzH776on whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834you lieשֹׁכֵ֣בsho.KhevH7901I will giveאֶתְּנֶ֖נָּה'et.te.Ne.nahH5414to you and to yourdescendantsוּלְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃u.le.zar.'E.khaH2233.

14Yourdescendantsזַרְעֲךָ֙zar.'a.KhaH2233will also be likethe dustכַּעֲפַ֣רka.'a.FarH6083of the earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776, and you willspreadוּפָרַצְתָּ֛u.fa.ratz.TaH6555outH6555to the westיָ֥מָּהYa.mahH3220and to the eastוָקֵ֖דְמָהva.Ke.de.mahH6924,and to the northוְצָפֹ֣נָהve.tza.Fo.nahH6828and to the southוָנֶ֑גְבָּהva.Neg.bahH5045; and in you and in yourdescendantsוּבְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃u.ve.zar.'E.khaH2233shall allכָּל־kol-H3605the familiesמִשְׁפְּחֹ֥תmish.pe.ChotH4940of the earthהָאֲדָמָ֖הha.'a.da.MahH127be blessedוְנִבְרֲכ֥וּve.niv.ra.KhuH1288.

15Beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009, I am with you andwill keepוּשְׁמַרְתִּ֙יךָ֙u.she.mar.Ti.khaH8104you whereverבְּכֹ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־be.Khol 'a.Sher-H3605 H834you goתֵּלֵ֔ךְte.LekhH1980, andwill bringוַהֲשִׁ֣בֹתִ֔יךָva.ha.Shi.vo.Ti.khaH7725you backH7725to thisH2088landהָאֲדָמָ֖הha.'a.da.MahH127; forI will not leaveאֶֽעֱזָבְךָ֔'e.'e.za.ve.KhaH5800you untilעַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר'ad 'a.SherH5704 H834I have doneעָשִׂ֔יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834I havepromisedדִּבַּ֖רְתִּיdi.Bar.tiH1696you.”

16Then Jacobיַעֲקֹב֮ya.'a.KoH3290awokeוַיִּיקַ֣ץvai.yi.KatzH3364from his sleepמִשְּׁנָתוֹ֒mi.she.na.ToH8142and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “The Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068is certainlyאָכֵן֙'a.KhenH403in thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088placeבַּמָּק֖וֹםba.ma.KomH4725,and I did not knowיָדָֽעְתִּי׃ya.Da.'e.tiH3045it!”

17And he wasH3372afraidוַיִּירָא֙vai.yi.Ra'H3372and saidוַיֹּאמַ֔רvai.yo.MarH559, “Howמַה־mah-H4100awesomeנּוֹרָ֖אno.Ra'H3372is thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088placeהַמָּק֣וֹםha.ma.KomH4725!Thisזֶ֗הZehH2088is noneH369otherH369thanכִּ֚י אִם־ki 'im-H3588 H518the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Godאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430,and thisוְזֶ֖הve.ZehH2088is the gateשַׁ֥עַרSha.'arH8179of heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064!”

18So Jacobיַעֲקֹ֜בya.'a.KoH3290gotH7925upH7925earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨םvai.yash.KemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֗קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242,and tookוַיִּקַּ֤חvai.yi.KachH3947the stoneהָאֶ֙בֶן֙ha.'E.venH68that he had placedH7760as a supportH4763forH4763his headמְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֔יוme.ra.'a.sho.TavH4763,and setH7760it upH7760as a memorialH4676stoneH4676,and pouredוַיִּצֹ֥קvai.yi.TzokH3332oilשֶׁ֖מֶןShe.menH8081on its topרֹאשָֽׁהּ׃ro.ShahH7218.

19Then he namedוַיִּקְרָ֛א שֵֽׁם־vai.yik.Ra' shem-H7121 H8034that placeהַמָּק֥וֹםha.ma.KomH4725BethelH1008;butוְאוּלָ֛םve.'u.LamH199previouslyלָרִאשֹׁנָֽה׃la.ri.sho.NahH7223the nameשֵׁם־shem-H8034of the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892had beenLuzל֥וּזluzH3870.

20Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290alsomadeוַיִּדַּ֥רvai.yi.DarH5087a vowנֶ֣דֶרNe.derH5088,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518Godאֱלֹהִ֜ים'E.lo.HimH430will be with me and will keepוּשְׁמָרַ֙נִי֙u.she.ma.Ra.niH8104me on thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088journeyבַּדֶּ֤רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870that Itakeהוֹלֵ֔ךְho.LekhH1980,and giveוְנָֽתַן־ve.na.tan-H5414mefoodלֶ֛חֶםLe.chemH3899to eatלֶאֱכֹ֖לle.'e.KholH398and garmentsוּבֶ֥גֶדu.Ve.gedH899to wearלִלְבֹּֽשׁ׃lil.BoshH3847,

21andI returnוְשַׁבְתִּ֥יve.shav.TiH7725to my father’sאָבִ֑י'a.ViH1houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004insafetyבְשָׁל֖וֹםve.sha.LomH7965,then the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068will be my Godלֵאלֹהִֽים׃le.lo.HimH430.

22And thisH2088stoneוְהָאֶ֣בֶןve.ha.'E.venH68,whichH834I have setשַׂ֙מְתִּי֙sam.tiH7760upH7760as a memorialH4676stoneH4676,will be God’sאֱלֹהִ֑ים'E.lo.HimH430houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004, andof everythingוְכֹל֙ve.KholH3605that You giveתִּתֶּן־ti.ten-H5414me I will assuredlyH6237giveH6237aH6237tenthH6237to You.”
