Psalm 51

New American Standard Bible 1995

A Contrite Sinner’s Prayer for Pardon.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

112Be graciousH2603 to me, O GodH430, according to Your lovingkindnessH2617; According to the greatnessH7230 of 3Your compassionH7356 4blotH4229 out my transgressionsH6588.25WashH3526 me thoroughlyH7235 from my iniquityH5771 And 6cleanseH2891 me from my sinH2403.3For 7I 8knowH3045 my transgressionsH6588, And my sinH2403 is everH8548 beforeH5048 me.49Against You, You onlyH905, I have sinnedH2398 And doneH6213 whatH7451 is 10evilH7451 in Your sightH5869, SoH4616 that 11You 12are justifiedH6663 13when You speakH1696 And 14blamelessH2135 when You judgeH8199.

5BeholdH2005, I was 15broughtH2342 forthH2342 in iniquityH5771, And in sinH2399 my motherH517 conceivedH3179 me.6BeholdH2005, You desireH2654 16truthH571 in the 17innermostH2910 beingH2910, And in the hiddenH5640 partH5640 You will 18make me knowH3045 wisdomH2451.719PurifyH2398 me 20with hyssopH231, and I shall be cleanH2891; 21WashH3526 me, and I shall be 22whiterH3835 thanH4480 snowH7950.823Make me to hearH8085 24joyH8342 and gladnessH8057, Let the 25bonesH6106 which You have brokenH1794 rejoiceH1523.926HideH5641 Your faceH6440 from my sinsH2399 And blotH4229 out allH3605 my iniquitiesH5771.

1027CreateH1254 28in me a 29cleanH2889 heartH3820, O GodH430, And renewH2318 30a 31steadfastH3559 spiritH7307 withinH7130 me.1132Do not castH7993 me awayH7993 from Your presenceH6440 And do not takeH3947 Your 33HolyH6944 SpiritH7307 from me.12RestoreH2318 to me the 34joyH8342 of Your salvationH3468 And sustainH5564 me with a 35willingH5082 spiritH7307.13Then I will 36teachH3925 transgressorsH6586 Your waysH1870, And sinnersH2400 will 37be 38convertedH7725 to You.

14DeliverH5337 me from 39bloodguiltinessH1818, O GodH430, 40the GodH430 of my salvationH8668; Then my 41tongueH3956 will joyfullyH7442 singH7442 of Your righteousnessH6666.15O LordH136, 4243openH6605 my lipsH8193, That my mouthH6310 may 44declareH5046 Your praiseH8416.16For You 45do not delightH2654 in sacrificeH2077, otherwise I would giveH5414 it; You are not pleasedH7521 with burntH5930 offeringH5930.17The sacrificesH2077 of GodH430 are a 46brokenH7665 spiritH7307; A brokenH7665 and a contriteH1794 heartH3820, O GodH430, You will not despiseH959.

1847By Your favorH7522 doH3190 goodH3190 to ZionH6726; 4849BuildH1129 the wallsH2346 of JerusalemH3389.19ThenH227 You will delightH2654 in 5051righteousH6664 sacrificesH2077, In 52burntH5930 offeringH5930 and wholeH3632 burntH3632 offeringH3632; ThenH227 53youngH6499 bullsH6499 will be offeredH5927 on Your altarH4196.
