Psalms 55
Prayer for the Destruction of the Treacherous.
For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Possibly Contemplative, or Didactic, or Skillful PsalmMaskil of David.
11GiveH238 earH238 to my prayerH8605, O GodH430; And 2do not hideH5956 Yourself from my supplicationH8467.2GiveH7181 3heedH7181 to me and answerH6030 me; I am restlessH7300 in my 4complaintH7879 and 56am surelyH1949 distractedH1949,3BecauseH4480 of the voiceH6963 of the enemyH340, BecauseH4480H6440 of the 7pressureH6125 of the wickedH7563; For they 8bringH4131 downH4131 9troubleH205 upon me And in angerH639 they 10bearH7852 a grudgeH7852 againstH7852 me.
4My 11heartH3820 is in anguishH2342 withinH7130 me, And the terrorsH367 of 12deathH4194 have fallenH5307 upon me.5FearH3374 and 13tremblingH7461 comeH935 upon me, And 1415horrorH6427 has overwhelmedH3680 me.6I saidH559, “OhH4310H5414, that I hadH5414 wingsH83 like a doveH3123! I would flyH5774 awayH5774 and 1617be at restH7931.7BeholdH2009, I would wanderH5074 farH7368 away, I would 18lodgeH3885 in the wildernessH4057. 19SelahH5542.8I would hastenH2363 to my placeH4655 of refugeH4655 From the 20stormyH5584 windH7307 and tempestH5591.”
921ConfuseH1104, O LordH136, 22divideH6385 their tonguesH3956, For I have seenH7200 23violenceH2555 and strifeH7379 in the cityH5892.10DayH3119 and nightH3915 they goH5437 aroundH5437 her upon her wallsH2346, And iniquityH205 and mischiefH5999 are in her midstH7130.1124DestructionH1942 is in her midstH7130; 25OppressionH8496 and deceitH4820 do not departH4185 from her 26streetsH7339.
12For it is 27not an enemyH340 who reproachesH2778 me, Then I could bearH5375 it; NorH3808 is it one who hatesH8130 me who 28has exaltedH1431 himself againstH5921 me, Then I could hideH5641 myself from him.13But it is you, a manH582 29my equalH6187, My 30companionH441 and my 3132familiarH3045 friendH3045;14We whoH834 hadH4985 sweetH4985 33fellowshipH5475 togetherH3164 34WalkedH1980 in the houseH1004 of GodH430 in the throngH7285.15Let 35deathH4194 comeH5378 36deceitfullyH5378 upon them; Let them 37goH3381 downH3381 aliveH2416 to 38SheolH7585, For evilH7451 is in their dwellingH4033, in their midstH7130.
16As for me, I shall 39callH7121 upon GodH430, And the LordH3068 will saveH3467 me.1740EveningH6153 and 41morningH1242 and at 42noonH6672, I will complainH7878 and murmurH1993, And He will hearH8085 my voiceH6963.18He will 43redeemH6299 my soulH5315 in peaceH7965 44from the battleH7128 which is against me, For they are 45manyH7227 who strive with me.19GodH410 will 46hearH8085 and 47answerH6030 them-- Even the one 48who 49sitsH3427 enthronedH3427 from of oldH6924-- SelahH5542. With whomH834 thereH369 50is noH369 changeH2487, And who 51do not fearH3372 GodH430.20He has putH7971 forthH7971 his handsH3027 against 52those whoH7965 were at peaceH7965 with him; He has 5354violatedH2490 his covenantH1285.21His 55speechH6310 was 56smootherH2505 thanH4480 butterH4260, But his heartH3820 was warH7128; His wordsH1697 were 57softerH7401 thanH4480 oilH8081, Yet they were drawnH6609 58swordsH6609.
2259CastH7993 60your burdenH3053 upon the LordH3068 and He will sustainH3557 you; 61He will neverH3808H5769 allowH5414 the righteousH6662 to 6263be shakenH4131.23But You, O GodH430, will bringH3381 them downH3381 to the 6465pitH875 of destructionH7845; 66MenH376 of bloodshedH1818 and deceitH4820 will 67not liveH2673 out halfH2673 their daysH3117. But I will 68trustH982 in You.
