Psalms 49
The Folly of Trusting in Riches.
For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
11HearH8085 thisH2088, allH3605 peoplesH5971; GiveH238 earH238, allH3605 2inhabitantsH3427 of the worldH2465,2BothH1571 3lowH1121H120 and highH1121H376, RichH6223 and poorH34 togetherH3162.3My mouthH6310 will 4speakH1696 wisdomH2451, And the meditationH1900 of my heartH3820 will be 5understandingH8394.4I will inclineH5186 my earH241 to 6a proverbH4912; 7I will 8expressH6605 my 9riddleH2420 on the harpH3658.
5WhyH4100 should I 10fearH3372 in daysH3117 of adversityH7451, When the iniquityH5771 of my 11foesH6120 surroundsH5437 me,6Even those who 12trustH982 in their wealthH2428 And boastH1984 in the abundanceH7230 of their richesH6239?7NoH3808 manH376 can by anyH6299 meansH6299 13redeemH6299 his brotherH251 OrH3808 giveH5414 to GodH430 a 14ransomH3724 for him--8For 15the redemptionH6306 of 16his soulH5315 is costlyH3365, And he should ceaseH2308 trying foreverH5769--9That he should 17liveH2421 on eternallyH5331, That he should not 1819undergoH7845 decayH7845.
10For he seesH7200 that even 20wiseH2450 menH2450 dieH4191; The 21stupidH3684 and the senselessH1198 alikeH3162 perishH6 And 22leaveH5800 their wealthH2428 to othersH312.11Their 2324innerH7130 thoughtH7130 is that their housesH1004 25are foreverH5769 And their dwellingH4908 placesH4908 to allH1755 generationsH1755; They have 26calledH7121 their landsH127 after their own namesH8034.12But 27manH120 in his 28pompH3366 will not endureH3885; He is likeH4911 the 29beastsH929 that 30perishH1820.
13ThisH2088 is the 31wayH1870 of those who are foolishH3689, And of those afterH310 them who 32approveH7521 their wordsH6310. 33SelahH5542.14As sheepH6629 they are appointedH8371 34for 35SheolH7585; DeathH4194 shall be their shepherdH7462; And the 36uprightH3477 shall ruleH7287 over them in the morningH1242, And their formH6736 shall be for 37SheolH7585 38to consumeH1086 39SoH4480 that they have noH4480 habitationH2073.15But GodH430 will 40redeemH6299 my soulH5315 from the 41powerH3027 of 42SheolH7585, For 43He will receiveH3947 me. SelahH5542.
16Do not be afraidH3372 44whenH3588 a manH376 becomesH6238 richH6238, WhenH3588 the 45gloryH3519 of his houseH1004 is increasedH7235;17For whenH3588 he diesH4194 he will 46carryH3947 nothingH3808H3605 away; His 47gloryH3519 will not descendH3381 afterH310 him.18ThoughH3588 while he livesH2425 he 48congratulatesH1288 49himselfH5315-- And though men praiseH3034 you whenH3588 you doH3190 wellH3190 for yourself--1950He shall 51goH935 to the generationH1755 of his fathersH1; They will neverH3808H5704H5331 seeH7200 52the lightH216.2053ManH120 in his 54pompH3366, yet withoutH3808 understandingH995, Is 55likeH4911 the 56beastsH929 that 57perishH1820.
