Psalms 18
The Lord Praised for Giving Deliverance.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, 2 Sam 22:1-51who spoke to the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,
1“I loveH7355 You, O LordH3068, 1my strengthH2391.”2The LordH3068 is 2my 3rockH5553 and 4my fortressH4686 and my 5delivererH6403, My GodH410, my rockH6697, in whom I takeH2620 refugeH2620; My 6shieldH4043 and the 7hornH7161 of my salvationH3468, my 8strongholdH4869.3I callH7121 upon the LordH3068, who is 9worthy to be praisedH1984, And I am 10savedH3467 from my enemiesH340.
4The 11cordsH2256 of deathH4194 encompassedH661 me, And the 12torrentsH5158 of 13ungodlinessH1100 14terrifiedH1204 me.5The 15cordsH2256 of 16SheolH7585 surroundedH5437 me; The snaresH4170 of deathH4194 confrontedH6923 me.6In my 17distressH6862 I calledH7121 upon the LordH3068, And criedH7768 to my GodH430 for helpH7768; He heardH8085 my voiceH6963 18out of His templeH1964, And my 19cryH7775 for helpH7775 beforeH6440 Him cameH935 into His earsH241.
7Then the 20earthH776 shookH1607 and quakedH7493; And the 21foundationsH4144 of the mountainsH2022 were tremblingH7264 And were shakenH1607, becauseH3588 He was angryH2734.8SmokeH6227 wentH5927 up 22out of His nostrilsH639, And 23fireH784 from His mouthH6310 devouredH398; CoalsH1513 were kindledH1197 by it.9He 24bowedH5186 the heavensH8064 also, and cameH3381 downH3381 With thickH6205 25darknessH6205 underH8478 His feetH7272.10He rodeH7392 upon a 26cherubH3742 and flewH5774; And He spedH1675 upon the 27wingsH3671 of the windH7307.11He madeH7896 28darknessH2822 His hidingH5643 placeH5643, 29His 30canopyH5521 aroundH5439 Him, DarknessH2825 of watersH4325, thickH5645 cloudsH5645 of the skiesH7834.12From the 31brightnessH5051 beforeH5048 Him passedH5674 His thickH5645 cloudsH5645, HailstonesH1259 and 32coalsH1513 of fireH784.13The LordH3068 also 33thunderedH7481 in the heavensH8064, And the MostH5945 HighH5945 utteredH5414 His voiceH6963, HailstonesH1259 and coalsH1513 of fireH784.14He 34sentH7971 out His arrowsH2671, and scatteredH6327 them, And lightningH1300 flashesH1300 in abundanceH7227, and 35routedH2000 them.15Then the 36channelsH650 of waterH4325 appearedH7200, And the foundationsH4144 of the worldH8398 were 37laidH1540 bareH1540 At Your 38rebukeH1606, O LordH3068, At the blastH5397 of the 39breathH7307 of Your nostrilsH639.
16He 40sentH7971 from on highH4791, He tookH3947 me; He drewH4871 me out of 41manyH7227 watersH4325.17He 42deliveredH5337 me from my strongH5794 enemyH340, And from those who hatedH8130 me, for they were 43tooH4480 mightyH553 for me.18They confrontedH6923 me in 44the dayH3117 of my calamityH343, But 45the LordH3068 was my stayH4937.19He broughtH3318 me forthH3318 also into a 46broadH4800 placeH4800; He rescuedH2502 me, becauseH3588 47He delightedH2654 in me.
20The LordH3068 has 48rewardedH1580 me according to my righteousnessH6664; According to the 49cleannessH1252 of my handsH3027 He has recompensedH7725 me.21For I have 50keptH8104 the waysH1870 of the LordH3068, And have 51not wickedlyH7561 departedH7561 from my GodH430.22For allH3605 52His ordinancesH4941 were beforeH5048 me, And I did not putH5493 awayH5493 His 53statutesH2708 from me.23I was also 5455blamelessH8549 with Him, And I 56keptH8104 myself from my iniquityH5771.24Therefore the LordH3068 has 57recompensedH7725 me according to my righteousnessH6664, According to the cleannessH1252 of my handsH3027 in His eyesH5869.
25With 58the kindH2623 You showH2616 Yourself kindH2616; With the 59blamelessH8549 60You showH8552 Yourself blamelessH8552;26With the pureH1305 You showH1305 Yourself 61pureH1305, And with the crookedH6141 62You showH6617 Yourself 63astuteH6617.27For You 64saveH3467 an afflictedH6041 peopleH5971, But 65haughtyH7311 eyesH5869 You abaseH8213.28For You 66lightH215 my lampH5216; The LordH3068 my GodH430 67illuminesH5050 my darknessH2822.29For by You I can 6869runH7323 upon a troopH1416; And by my GodH430 I can 70leapH1801 over a wallH7791.
30As for GodH410, His wayH1870 is 7172blamelessH8549; The 73wordH565 of the LordH3068 is triedH6884; He is a 74shieldH4043 to allH3605 who takeH2620 refugeH2620 in Him.31For 75whoH4310 is GodH433, but the LordH3068? And whoH4310 is a 76rockH6697, exceptH2108 our GodH430,32The GodH410 who 77girdsH247 me with strengthH2428 And 78makesH5414 my wayH1870 7980blamelessH8549?33He 81makesH7737 my feetH7272 like hinds’H355 feet, And 82setsH5975 me upon my highH1116 placesH1116.34He 83trainsH3925 my handsH3027 for battleH4421, So that my armsH2220 can 84bendH5181 a bowH7198 of bronzeH5154.35You have also givenH5414 me 85the shieldH4043 of Your salvationH3468, And Your 86rightH3225 handH3225 upholdsH5582 me; And 87Your 88gentlenessH6038 makesH7235 me greatH7235.36You 89enlargeH7337 my stepsH6806 underH8478 me, And my 9091feetH7166 have not slippedH4571.
37I 92pursuedH7291 my enemiesH340 and overtookH5381 them, And I did not turnH7725 backH7725 93untilH5704 they were consumedH3615.38I shatteredH4272 them, so that they were 94not ableH3201 to riseH6965; They fellH5307 95underH8478 my feetH7272.39For You have 96girdedH247 me with strengthH2428 for battleH4421; You have 9798subduedH3766 underH8478 me those who roseH6965 up against me.40You have also madeH5414 my enemiesH340 99turnH5414 their backsH6203 to me, And I 100101destroyedH6789 those who hatedH8130 me.41They criedH7768 for helpH7768, but thereH369 was 102noneH369 to saveH3467, Even to the LordH3068, but 103He did not answerH6030 them.42Then I beatH7833 them fineH7833 as the 104dustH6083 beforeH5921H6440 the windH7307; I emptiedH7385 them out as the mireH2916 of the streetsH2351.
43You have deliveredH6403 me from the 105contentionsH7379 of the peopleH5971; You have placedH7760 me as 106headH7218 of the nationsH1471; A 107peopleH5971 whom I have not knownH3045 serveH5647 me.44As soon as they hearH8088H241, they obeyH8085 me; ForeignersH1121H5236 108109submitH3584 to me.45ForeignersH1121H5236 110fadeH5034 awayH5034, And 111comeH2727 tremblingH2727 out of their 112fortressesH4526.
46The LordH3068 113livesH2416, and blessedH1288 be 114my rockH6697; And exaltedH7311 be 115the GodH430 of my salvationH3468,47The GodH410 who 116executesH5414 vengeanceH5360 for me, And 117subduesH1696 peoplesH5971 underH8478 me.48He 118deliversH6403 me from my enemiesH340; SurelyH637 You 119liftH7311 me aboveH4480 those who riseH6965 up against me; You rescueH5337 me from the 120violentH2555 manH376.49ThereforeH5921H3651 I will 121giveH3034 thanksH3034 to You among the nationsH1471, O LordH3068, And I will 122singH2167 praisesH2167 to Your nameH8034.50He gives greatH1431 123124deliveranceH3444 to His kingH4428, And showsH6213 lovingkindnessH2617 to 125His anointedH4899, To DavidH1732 and 126his 127descendantsH2233 foreverH5704H5769.
