2 Samuel 5
Revised Version 1895
1Then cameH935 allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to DavidH1732 unto HebronH2275, and spake, sayingH559, BeholdH2005, weH587 are thy boneH6106 and thy fleshH1320. 2In times past, when SaulH7586 was kingH4428 over usH5921, it was thou that leddest outH3318 and broughtest in IsraelH3478: and the LORDH3068 saidH559 to thee, Thou shalt feedH7462 my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and thou shalt be princeH5057 over IsraelH3478. 3SoH935 allH3605 the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to the kingH4428 to HebronH2275; and kingH4428 DavidH1732 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with them in HebronH2275 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068: and they anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478. 4DavidH1732 was thirtyH7970 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he began to reignH4427, and he reignedH4427 fortyH705 yearsH8141. 5In HebronH2275 he reignedH4427 over JudahH3063 sevenH7651 yearsH8141 and sixH8337 mouths: and in JerusalemH3389 he reignedH4427 thirtyH7970 and threeH7969 yearsH8141 over allH3605 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063. 6And the kingH4428 and his menH376 wentH935 to JerusalemH3389 againstH413 the JebusitesH2983, the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776: which spake unto DavidH1732, sayingH559, ExceptH518 thou takeH5493 awayH5493 the blindH5787 and the lame, thou shalt notH3808 comeH935 in hither: thinkingH559, DavidH1732 cannotH3808 comeH935 in hither. 7Nevertheless DavidH1732 tookH3920 the strong hold of ZionH6726; the sameH1931 is the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 8And DavidH1732 saidH559 on that dayH3117, Whosoever smiteth the JebusitesH2983, letH3808 him getH935 upH5921 to the watercourse, and smiteH5221 the lameH6455 and the blindH5787, that are hatedH8130 of David’sH1732 soulH5315. Wherefore they sayH559, There are the blindH5787 and the lameH6455; he cannotH3808 comeH935 intoH413 the houseH1004. 9And DavidH1732 dweltH3427 in the strong holdH1004, and calledH7121 it the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And DavidH1732 builtH1129 roundH5439 aboutH5439 from MilloH4407 and inwardH1004. 10And DavidH1732 waxed greaterH1419 and greaterH1419; for the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, was with him. 11And HiramH2438 kingH4428 of TyreH6865 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to DavidH1732, and cedarH730 treesH6086, and carpentersH2796, and masonsH2796: and they builtH1129 DavidH1732 an houseH1004. 12And DavidH1732 perceivedH3045 that the LORDH3068 had establishedH3559 him kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, and that he had exaltedH5375 his kingdomH4467 for his peopleH5971 Israel’sH3478 sakeH5668. 13And DavidH1732 tookH3947 him moreH5750 concubinesH6370 and wivesH802 outH935 of JerusalemH3389, afterH310 he was comeH935 from HebronH2275: and there were yet sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323 bornH3205 to DavidH1732. 14And theseH428 be the namesH8034 of thoseH428 that were bornH3209 unto him in JerusalemH3389; ShammuaH8051, and ShobabH7727, and NathanH5416, and SolomonH8010, 15and IbharH2984, and ElishuaH474; and NephegH5298, and JaphiaH3309; 16and ElishamaH476, and EliadaH450, and ElipheletH467. 17And when the PhilistinesH6430 heardH8085 that they had anointedH4886 DavidH1732 kingH4428 over IsraelH3478, allH3605 the PhilistinesH6430 wentH5927 upH5927 to seekH1245 DavidH1732; and DavidH1732 heardH8085 of it, and wentH5927 downH3381 to the hold. 18NowH935 the PhilistinesH6430 had comeH935 and spreadH5203 themselves in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 19And DavidH1732 inquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, sayingH559, Shall I goH5927 upH5927 againstH413 the PhilistinesH6430? wilt thou deliverH5414 them intoH413 mine handH3027? And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto DavidH1732, GoH5927 upH5927: for I will certainlyH3588 deliverH5414 the PhilistinesH6430 intoH413 thine handH3027. 20And DavidH1732 cameH935 to Baal-perazimH1188, and DavidH1732 smoteH5221 them there; and he saidH559, The LORDH3068 hath brokenH6555 mine enemiesH341 beforeH6440 meH6440, like the breachH6556 of watersH4325. Therefore he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 Baal-perazimH1188. 21And they leftH5800 their imagesH6091 there, and DavidH1732 and his menH376 tookH5375 them awayH5375. 22And the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 upH5927 yet againH5750, and spreadH5203 themselves in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 23And when DavidH1732 inquiredH7592 of the LORDH3068, he saidH559, Thou shalt notH3808 goH935 upH5927: makeH5437 a circuitH5437 behindH310 them, and comeH935 uponH935 them over againstH413 the mulberry treesH1057. 24And it shall be, when thou hearest the soundH6963 of marching in the topsH7218 of the mulberry treesH1057, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then is the LORDH3068 goneH3318 outH3318 beforeH6440 thee to smiteH5221 the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430. 25And DavidH1732 didH6213 soH3651, as the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 him; and smoteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 from GebaH1387 untilH5704 thou comeH935 to GezerH1507.
