2 Samuel 24
1And again the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against IsraelH3478, and he moved DavidH1732 against them, sayingH559, Go, numberH4487 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 to JoabH3097 the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, from DanH1835 even to Beer-sheba, and numberH4557 ye the peopleH5971, that I may knowH3045 the sum of the peopleH5971. 3And JoabH3097 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, Now Jehovah thy GodH430 addH3254 unto the peopleH5971, howH4100 many soever they may be, a hundredfold; and may the eyesH5869 of my lord the kingH4428 seeH7200 it: but whyH4100 doth my lord the kingH4428 delightH2654 in this thingH1697? 4Notwithstanding, the king’sH4428 wordH1697 prevailedH2388 against JoabH3097, and against the captains of the host. And JoabH3097 and the captains of the host wentH3318 out from the presenceH6440 of the kingH4428, to number the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478. 5And they passedH5674 over the JordanH3383, and encampedH2583 in AroerH6177, on the rightH3225 sideH3225 of the cityH5892 that is in the middleH8432 of the valley of GadH1410, and unto JazerH3270: 6then they cameH935 to GileadH1568, and to the landH776 of Tahtim-hodshi; and they cameH935 to Dan-jaan, and roundH5439 about to SidonH6721, 7and cameH935 to the stronghold of TyreH6865, and to all the citiesH5892 of the Hivites, and of the CanaanitesH3669; and they wentH3318 out to the southH5045 of JudahH3063, at Beer-sheba. 8So when they had goneH935 to and fro through all the landH776, they cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 at the endH7097 of nineH8672 monthsH2320 and twentyH6242 daysH3117. 9And JoabH3097 gaveH5414 up the sum of the numberingH4557 of the peopleH5971 unto the kingH4428: and there wereH1961 in IsraelH3478 eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 valiant menH376 that drewH8025 the swordH2719; and the menH376 of JudahH3063 wereH1961 fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 menH376.
10And David’s heartH3820 smote him after that he had numbered the peopleH5971. And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto Jehovah, I have sinnedH2398 greatly in that which I have done: but nowH6258, O Jehovah, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquityH5771 of thy servantH5650; for I have done veryH3966 foolishlyH5528. 11And when DavidH1732 roseH6965 up in the morningH1242, the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto the prophetH5030 GadH1410, David’s seerH2374, sayingH559, 12GoH1980 and speakH1696 unto DavidH1732, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, I offerH6213 thee threeH7969 thingsH7969: chooseH977 thee oneH259 of them, that I may do it unto thee. 13So GadH1410 cameH935 to DavidH1732, and toldH5046 him, and saidH559 unto him, Shall sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 comeH935 unto thee in thy landH776? or wilt thou fleeH5127 threeH7969 monthsH2320 before thy foes while they pursueH7291 thee? or shall there beH1961 threeH7969 days’H3117 pestilenceH1698 in thy landH776? nowH6258 advise thee, and considerH7200 what answer I shall returnH7725 to him that sentH7971 me. 14And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto GadH1410, I am in a great strait: let us fallH5307 now into the handH3027 of Jehovah; for his mercies are great; and let me not fallH5307 into the handH3027 of manH120.
15So Jehovah sent a pestilenceH1698 upon IsraelH3478 from the morningH1242 even to the timeH6256 appointedH4150; and there diedH4191 of the peopleH5971 from DanH1835 even to Beer-sheba seventyH7657 thousandH505 menH376. 16And when the angelH4397 stretchedH7971 out his handH3027 toward JerusalemH3389 to destroyH7843 it, Jehovah repentedH5162 him of the evilH7451, and saidH559 to the angelH4397 that destroyedH7843 the peopleH5971, It is enoughH7227; nowH6258 stay thy handH3027. And the angelH4397 of Jehovah wasH1961 by the threshing-floor of AraunahH728 the JebusiteH2983. 17And DavidH1732 spake unto Jehovah when he sawH7200 the angelH4397 that smote the peopleH5971, and saidH559, Lo, I have sinnedH2398, and I have done perversely; but these sheepH6629, what have they done? let thy handH3027, I pray thee, beH1961 against me, and against my father’sH1 houseH1004.
18And GadH1410 cameH935 that dayH3117 to DavidH1732, and saidH559 unto him, GoH935 up, rear an altarH4196 unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of AraunahH728 the JebusiteH2983. 19And DavidH1732 wentH5927 up according to the saying of GadH1410, as Jehovah commandedH6680. 20And AraunahH728 lookedH7200 forthH3318, and sawH7200 the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 comingH3318 on toward him: and AraunahH728 wentH3318 out, and bowedH7812 himself before the kingH4428 with his faceH639 to the groundH776. 21And AraunahH728 saidH559, Wherefore is my lord the kingH4428 comeH935 to his servantH5650? And DavidH1732 saidH559, To buyH7069 the threshing-floor of thee, to buildH1129 an altarH4196 unto Jehovah, that the plagueH4046 may be stayed from the peopleH5971. 22And AraunahH728 saidH559 unto DavidH1732, Let my lordH113 the kingH4428 takeH3947 and offerH5927 up what seemeth goodH2896 unto him: behold, the oxenH1241 for the burnt-offering, and the threshing instrumentsH3627 and the yokes of the oxenH1241 for the woodH6086: 23all this, O kingH4428, doth AraunahH728 giveH5414 unto the kingH4428. And AraunahH728 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, Jehovah thy GodH430 acceptH7521 thee. 24And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto AraunahH728, Nay; but I will verily buyH7069 it of thee at a price; neither will I offerH5927 burnt-offerings unto Jehovah my GodH430 which cost me nothing. So DavidH1732 boughtH7069 the threshing-floor and the oxenH1241 for fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701. 25And DavidH1732 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 unto Jehovah, and offeredH5927 burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Jehovah was entreatedH6279 for the landH776, and the plagueH4046 was stayed from IsraelH3478.
