2 Samuel 24
Revised Version 1895
1And againH3254 the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 againstH2734 IsraelH3478, and he movedH5496 DavidH1732 againstH2734 them, sayingH559, Go, numberH4487 IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063. 2And the kingH4428 saidH559 to JoabH3097 the captainH8269 of the host, whichH834 was with him, GoH4994 nowH4994 to and fro throughH3605 allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478, from DanH1835 evenH5704 to Beer-sheba, and numberH4557 ye the peopleH5971, that I may knowH3045 the sum of the peopleH5971. 3And JoabH3097 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, NowH6471 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 addH3254 unto the peopleH5971, howH4100 manyH4100 soever they be, an hundredfold, and may the eyesH5869 of my lordH3068 the kingH4428 seeH7200 it: but whyH4100 doth my lordH3068 the kingH4428 delightH2654 in this thingH1697? 4Notwithstanding the king’sH4428 wordH1697 prevailedH2388 againstH5921 JoabH3097, and againstH5921 the captainsH8269 of the host. And JoabH3097 and the captainsH8269 of the host wentH3318 outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of the kingH4428, to numberH6485 the peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478. 5And they passedH5674 over JordanH3383, and pitchedH2583 in AroerH6177, on the rightH3225 sideH3225 of the cityH5892 that is in the middleH8432 of the valleyH5158 of GadH1410, and unto JazerH3270. 6then they cameH935 to GileadH1568, and to the landH776 of Tahtim-hodshiH8483; and they cameH935 to Dan-jaanH1842, and roundH5439 aboutH5439 to Zidon, 7and cameH935 to the strong hold of TyreH6865, and to allH3605 the citiesH5892 of the HivitesH2340, and of the CanaanitesH3669: and they wentH3318 outH3318 to the southH5045 of JudahH3063, at Beer-sheba. 8SoH935 when they had goneH935 to and fro throughH935 allH3605 the landH776, they cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 at the endH7097 of nineH8672 monthsH2320 and twentyH6242 daysH3117. 9And JoabH3097 gaveH5414 upH5414 the sum of the numberingH4557 of the peopleH5971 unto the kingH4428: and there were in IsraelH3478 eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 valiantH2428 menH376 that drewH8025 the swordH2719; and the menH376 of JudahH3063 were fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 menH376. 10And David’sH1732 heartH3820 smoteH5221 him afterH310 that he had numberedH5608 the peopleH5971. And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto the LORDH3068, I have sinnedH2398 greatlyH3966 in that I have doneH6213: but nowH6258, O LORDH3068, put awayH310, I beseechH4994 thee, the iniquityH5771 of thy servantH5650; for I have doneH6213 veryH3966 foolishlyH5528. 11And when DavidH1732 roseH6965 upH6965 in the morningH1242, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto the prophetH5030 GadH1410, David’sH1732 seerH2374, sayingH559, 12GoH1980 and speakH1696 unto DavidH1732, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, I offerH6213 thee threeH7969 things; chooseH977 thee one of them, that I may doH6213 it unto thee. 13SoH7971 GadH1410 cameH935 to DavidH1732, and toldH5046 him, and saidH559 unto him, Shall sevenH7651 yearsH8141 of famineH7458 comeH935 unto thee in thy landH776? or wilt thou fleeH5127 threeH7969 monthsH2320 beforeH6440 thy foes whileH1961 they pursueH7291 thee? or shall there be threeH7969 daysH3117 pestilenceH1698 in thy landH776? nowH6258 advise thee, and considerH7200 whatH4100 answerH7725 I shall returnH7725 to him that sentH7971 meH413. 14And DavidH1732 saidH559 unto GadH1410, I am in a greatH3966 strait: letH4994 usH4994 fallH5307 nowH4994 intoH413 the handH3027 of the LORDH3068; for his merciesH7356 are greatH3966: and letH4994 meH413 notH408 fallH5307 intoH413 the handH3027 of manH120. 15SoH4480 the LORDH3068 sentH5414 a pestilenceH1698 uponH1698 IsraelH3478 from the morningH1242 evenH5704 to the time appointedH4150: and there diedH4191 of the peopleH5971 from DanH1835 evenH5704 to Beer-sheba seventyH7657 thousandH505 menH376. 16And when the angelH4397 stretchedH7971 outH7971 his handH3027 towardH413 JerusalemH3389 to destroyH7843 it, the LORDH3068 repentedH5162 him of the evilH7451, and saidH559 to the angelH4397 that destroyedH7843 the peopleH5971, It is enoughH7227; nowH6258 stay thine handH3027. And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 was by the threshing-floor of AraunahH728 the JebusiteH2983. 17And DavidH1732 spake unto the LORDH3068 when he sawH7200 the angelH4397 that smoteH5221 the peopleH5971, and saidH559, LoH2009, I have sinnedH2398, and I have doneH6213 perversely: but theseH428 sheepH6629, whatH4100 have they doneH6213? letH4994 thine handH3027, I prayH4994 thee, be againstH413 meH413, and againstH413 my father’sH1 houseH1004. 18And GadH1410 cameH935 that dayH3117 to DavidH1732, and saidH559 unto him, GoH935 upH5927, rear an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068 in the threshing-floor of AraunahH728 the JebusiteH2983. 19And DavidH1732 wentH5927 upH5927 according to the sayingH1697 of GadH1410, as the LORDH3068 commandedH6680. 20And AraunahH728 lookedH7200 forthH3318, and sawH7200 the kingH4428 and his servantsH5650 comingH3318 on towardH5921 him: and AraunahH728 wentH3318 outH3318, and bowedH7812 himselfH7812 beforeH5921 the kingH4428 with his faceH639 to the groundH776. 21And AraunahH728 saidH559, Wherefore is my lordH3068 the kingH4428 comeH935 to his servantH5650? And DavidH1732 saidH559, To buyH7069 the threshing-floor of thee, to buildH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, that the plagueH4046 may be stayedH6113 from the peopleH5971. 22And AraunahH728 saidH559 unto DavidH1732, Let my lordH113 the kingH4428 takeH3947 and offerH5927 upH5927 whatH2896 seemeth goodH2896 unto him: beholdH7200, the oxenH1241 for the burntH5930 offering, and the threshingH4173 instrumentsH3627 and the furnitureH3627 of the oxenH1241 for the woodH6086: 23allH3605 this, O kingH4428, doth AraunahH728 giveH5414 unto the kingH4428. And AraunahH728 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, The LORDH3068 thy GodH430 acceptH7521 thee. 24And the kingH4428 saidH559 unto AraunahH728, Nay; but I will verily buyH7069 it of thee at a priceH3701: neitherH3808 will I offerH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH3068 unto the LORDH3068 my GodH430 whichH2600 costH4242 meH413 nothingH3808. SoH3808 DavidH1732 boughtH7069 the threshing-floor and the oxenH1241 for fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255 of silverH3701. 25And DavidH1732 builtH1129 there an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, and offeredH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH8002 and peaceH8002 offeringsH8002. SoH5927 the LORDH3068 was entreatedH6279 for the landH776, and the plagueH4046 was stayedH6113 from IsraelH3478.
