Hebrews 12:1-13 1 Let us also G2532 therefore , having so great a cloud of witnesses G3144 surrounding us, laying aside ἀποθέμενοι apothemenoi G659 every weight , and sin ἁμαρτίαν, hamartian G266 which so easily entangles us, run τρέχωμεν trechōmen G5143 with endurance ὑπομονῆς hupomonēs G5281 the race that lies before us, 2 looking stedfastly on Jesus Ἰησοῦν, Iēsoun G2424 the leader and completer of faith πίστεως pisteōs G4102 : who , in view of the joy χαρᾶς charas G5479 lying before him , endured G5278 [ the ] cross σταυρὸν stauron G4716 , having despised [ the ] shame αἰσχύνης aischunēs G152 , and is set G4295 down κεκάθικεν.¶ kekathiken G2523 at the right δεξιᾷ dexia G1188 hand G1188 of the throne θρόνου thronou G2362 of God θεοῦ theou G2316 . 3 For consider well him who endured G5278 so ἵνα ina G2443 great contradiction from sinners ἁμαρτωλῶν hamartōlōn G268 against himself , that ye be not weary , fainting in your minds G5590 . 4 Ye have not yet οὔπω oupō G3768 resisted unto blood αἵματος aimatos G129 , wrestling against sin ἁμαρτίαν hamartian G266 . 5 And ye have quite forgotten the exhortation παρακλήσεως paraklēseōs G3874 which speaks to you as to sons υἱοῖς huiois G5207 : My son υἱέ huie G5207 , despise not [ the ] chastening of [ the ] Lord κυρίου, kuriou G2962 , nor faint ἐκλύου ekluou G1590 [ when G5613 ] reproved by him ; 6 for whom [ the ] Lord κύριος, kurios G2962 loves G25 he chastens, and scourges every son υἱὸν huion G5207 whom he receives G3858 . 7 Ye endure ὑπομένετε, hupomenete G5278 for chastening, God θεός· theos G2316 conducts himself towards you as towards sons υἱοῖς huiois G5207 ; for who is the son υἱὸς huios G5207 that the father πατήρ; patēr G3962 chastens not ? 8 But if ye are G1510 without chastening, of which all have been G1510 made partakers μέτοχοι metochoi G3353 , then are G1510 ye bastards, and not sons υἱοί huioi G5207 . 9 Moreover we have had the fathers πατέρας pateras G3962 of our flesh σαρκὸς sarkos G4561 as chasteners, and we reverenced [them]; shall we not much πολὺ polu G4183 rather G3123 be in subjection ὑποταγησόμεθα hupotagēsometha G5293 to the Father πατρὶ patri G3962 of spirits πνευμάτων pneumatōn G4151 , and live ζήσομεν; zēsomen G2198 ? 10 For they indeed G1063 chastened for a few ὀλίγας oligas G3641 days ἡμέρας hēmeras G2250 , as seemed G1380 good δοκοῦν dokoun G1380 to them ; but he for profit, in order to the partaking of his holiness . 11 But no chastening at the time seems δοκεῖ dokei G1380 to be G1510 [matter] of joy χαρᾶς charas G5479 , but of grief λύπης, lupēs G3077 ; but afterwards yields [ the ] peaceful fruit καρπὸν karpon G2590 of righteousness δικαιοσύνης.¶ dikaiosunēs G1343 to those exercised by it . 12 Wherefore lift up the hands χεῖρας cheiras G5495 that hang down, and the failing knees G1119 ; Read all of Hebrews 12 ← Hebrews 11 Hebrews 13 → Commentaries on Hebrews 12 Darby Bible — 1889 — Public Domain
