1 Rebuke not an elder Πρεσβυτέρῳ Presbuterō G4245 sharply , but exhort παρακάλει parakalei G3870 [ him ] as a father πατέρα, patera G3962 , younger [ men ] as brethren , 2 elder πρεσβυτέρας presbuteras G4245 women as mothers μητέρας, mēteras G3384 , younger women as sisters ἀδελφὰς adelphas G79 , with all purity ἁγνείᾳ. hagneia G47 . 3 Honour widows χήρας chēras G5503 who are really widows χήρας. chēras G5503 ; 4 but if any widow χήρα chēra G5503 have children G5043 or descendants , let them learn μανθανέτωσαν manthanetōsan G3129 first to be G1510 pious as regards their own ἴδιον idion G2398 house G3624 , and to render G591 a return on their side to [ their ] parents ; for this is G1510 acceptable in the sight of God θεοῦ.¶ theou G2316 . 5 Now δὲ de G1161 she who [ is ] a widow χήρα chēra G5503 indeed , and is left alone , has put [ her ] hope ἤλπικεν ēlpiken G1679 in God θεὸν theon G2316 , and continues G4357 in supplications and prayers προσευχαῖς proseuchais G4335 night νυκτὸς nuktos G3571 and day ἡμέρας· hēmeras G2250 . 6 But she that lives in habits of self-indulgence is dead [ while ] living G2198 . 7 And these things ταῦτα tauta G3778 enjoin, that they may be ὦσιν.¶ ōsin G1510 irreproachable. 8 But if any one G5100 does not provide for his own ἰδίων idiōn G2398 , and specially for those of [ his ] house, he has denied G720 the faith πίστιν pistin G4102 , and is G1510 worse than the unbeliever ἀπίστου apistou G571 . 9 Let a widow χήρα chēra G5503 be put upon the list , being of not less than sixty ἑξήκοντα hexēkonta G1835 years ἐτῶν etōn G2094 , [having been ] wife γυνή, gunē G1135 of one ἑνὸς henos G1520 man ἀνδρὸς andros G435 , 10 borne witness μαρτυρουμένη, marturoumenē G3140 to in good ἀγαθῷ agathō G18 works ἔργοις ergois G2041 , if she have brought up children , if she have exercised hospitality , if she have washed ἔνιψεν, enipsen G3538 saints' feet G4228 , if she have imparted relief to the distressed, if she have diligently followed every good G18 work ἔργῳ ergō G2041 . 11 But younger widows χήρας chēras G5503 decline; for when ὅταν hotan G3752 they grow wanton against Christ Χριστοῦ, Christou G5547 , they desire θέλουσιν thelousin G2309 to marry γαμεῖν gamein G1060 , 12 being guilty, because they have cast off their first πρώτην prōtēn G4413 faith πίστιν pistin G4102 . 13 And , at the same ἅμα hama G260 time G260 , they learn μανθάνουσιν manthanousin G3129 also G2532 [ to be ] idle ἀργαὶ argai G692 , going about to people's houses οἰκίας. oikias G3614 ; and not only G3440 idle ἀργαί, argai G692 , but also G2532 gossipers and meddlers, speaking λαλοῦσαι lalousai G2980 things not becoming. 14 I will therefore οὖν oun G3767 that the younger marry γαμεῖν, gamein G1060 , bear children , rule the house , give διδόναι didonai G1325 no occasion ἀφορμὴν aphormēn G874 to the adversary in respect of reproach . 16 If any believing man or woman have widows χήρας, chēras G5503 , let them impart relief to them , and let not the assembly G1577 be charged, that it may impart relief to those [ that are ] widows χήραις chērais G5503 indeed . 17 Let the elders πρεσβύτεροι presbuteroi G4245 who take the lead [ among the saints] well καλῶς kalōs G2573 be esteemed worthy ἀξιούσθωσαν axiousthōsan G515 of double διπλῆς diplēs G1362 honour, specially those labouring in word λόγῳ logō G3056 and teaching διδασκαλίᾳ· didaskalia G1319 ; 18 for the scripture γραφή· graphē G1124 says λέγει legei G3004 , Thou shalt not muzzle φιμώσεις· phimōseis G5392 an ox βοῦν boun G1016 that treadeth out corn, and , The workman ἐργάτης ergatēs G2040 [ is ] worthy ἄξιος axios G514 of his hire. 19 Against an elder πρεσβυτέρου presbuterou G4245 receive παραδέχου paradechou G3858 not an accusation κατηγορίαν katēgorian G2724 unless where there are two δύο duo G1417 or three τριῶν triōn G5140 witnesses G3144 . 21 I testify Διαμαρτύρομαι Diamarturomai G1263 before God θεοῦ theou G2316 and Christ Χριστοῦ Christou G5547 Jesus Ἰησοῦ Iēsou G2424 and the elect ἐκλεκτῶν eklektōn G1588 angels ἀγγέλων, angelōn G32 , that thou keep φυλάξῃς phulaxēs G5442 these things ταῦτα tauta G3778 without prejudice , doing nothing μηδὲν mēden G3367 by favour. 22 Lay hands χεῖρας cheiras G5495 quickly on no man , nor partake in others' sins ἁμαρτίαις hamartiais G266 .
