Exodus 34

(Deuteronomy 10:1–11)

1Then the LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 MosesH4872, “Chisel outH6458 twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 like the originalsH7223, and I will writeH3789 onH5921 themH3871 the wordsH1697 thatH834 wereH1961 onH5921 the firstH7223 tabletsH3871, whichH834 you brokeH7665. 2BeH1961 readyH3559 in the morningH1242, and come upH5927 on MountH2022 SinaiH5514H413 to present yourselfH5324 before MeH8033 onH5921 the mountaintopH7218H2022. 3NoH3808 oneH376 may go upH5927 with youH5973; in factH1571, noH408 oneH376 may be seenH7200 anywhereH3605 on the mountainH2022—notH408 evenH1571 the flocksH6629 or herdsH1241 may grazeH7462 in front ofH413H4136 theH1931 mountainH2022.”

4So MosesH4872 chiseled outH6458 twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 like the originalsH7223. He rose earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and takingH3947 the twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 in his handsH3027, he went upH5927H413 MountH2022 SinaiH5514 asH834 the LORDH3068 had commanded himH6680.

5And the LORDH3068 descendedH3381 in a cloudH6051, stoodH3320 with himH5973 thereH8033, and proclaimedH7121 His nameH8034, the LORDH3068. 6Then the LORDH3068 passedH5674 in front ofH5921 Moses and called outH7121:

“The LORDH3068, the LORDH3068 GodH410,is compassionateH7349 and graciousH2587,slowH750 to angerH639,aboundingH7227 in loving devotionH2617 and faithfulnessH571,7maintainingH5341 loving devotionH2617 to a thousandH505 generations,1forgivingH5375 iniquityH5771, transgressionH6588, and sinH2403.Yet He will by no meansH3808 leave the guilty unpunishedH5352;He will visitH6485 the iniquityH5771 of the fathersH1onH5921 their childrenH1121 andH5921 grandchildrenH1121toH5921 the thirdH8029H5921 and fourth generationsH7256.”

8MosesH4872 immediatelyH4116 bowed downH6915 to the groundH776 and worshipedH7812. 9“O LordH136,” he saidH559, “ifH518 I have indeed foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, my LordH136, pleaseH4994 goH1980H4994 with usH7130. AlthoughH3588 thisH1931 is a stiff-neckedH7186H6203 peopleH5971, forgiveH5545 our iniquityH5771 and sinH2403, and take us as Your inheritanceH5157.”

The LORD Renews the Covenant

(2 Corinthians 3:7–18)

10And the LORD saidH559, “BeholdH2009, IH595 am makingH3772 a covenantH1285. BeforeH5048 allH3605 your peopleH5971 I will performH6213 wondersH6381 thatH834 have neverH3808 been doneH1254 in anyH3605 nationH1471 in allH3605 the worldH776. AllH3605 the peopleH5971 among whom you liveH859H7130 will seeH7200 the LORD’sH3068 workH4639, forH3588 itH1931 is an awesomeH3372 thing thatH834 IH589 am doingH6213 with youH5973.

11ObserveH8104 whatH834 IH595 command youH6680 this dayH3117H2005. I will drive outH1644 before youH6440 the AmoritesH567, CanaanitesH3669, HittitesH2850, PerizzitesH6522, HivitesH2340, and JebusitesH2983. 12Be carefulH8104 notH6435 to makeH3772 a treatyH12852 with the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 youH859 are enteringH935H5921, lestH6435 they becomeH1961 a snareH4170 in your midstH7130. 13RatherH3588, you must tear downH5422 their altarsH4196, smashH7665 their sacred stonesH4676, and chop downH3772 their Asherah polesH842. 14ForH3588 you must notH3808 worshipH7812 any otherH312 godH410, forH3588 the LORDH3068, whose nameH8034 is JealousH7067, is a jealousH7067H1931 GodH410.

15Do notH6435 makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776, for when they prostitute themselvesH2181 toH310 their godsH430 and sacrificeH2076 toH430 them, they will inviteH7121 you, and you will eatH398 their sacrificesH2077. 16And when you takeH3947 some of their daughtersH1323 as brides for your sonsH1121, their daughtersH1323 will prostitute themselvesH2181 toH310 their godsH430 and cause your sonsH1121 to do the same.

17You shall makeH6213 noH3808 moltenH4541 godsH430 for yourselves.

18

You are to keepH8104 the FeastH2282 of Unleavened BreadH4682.3 For sevenH7651 daysH3117 at the appointed timeH4150 in the monthH2320 of AbibH24,4 you are to eatH398 unleavened breadH4682 asH834 I commanded youH6680. ForH3588 in the monthH2320 of AbibH24 you came outH3318 of EgyptH4714.

19The first offspringH6363 of everyH3605 wombH7358 belongs to Me, including allH3605 the firstbornH6363 malesH2142 among your livestockH4735, whether cattleH7794 or sheepH7716. 20You must redeemH6299 the firstbornH6363 of a donkeyH2543 with a lambH7716; but ifH518 you do notH3808 redeem itH6299, you are to break its neckH6202. You must redeemH6299 allH3605 the firstbornH1060 of your sonsH1121. NoH3808 one shall appearH7200 before MeH6440 empty-handedH7387.

21SixH8337 daysH3117 you shall laborH5647, but on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 you shall restH7673; even in the seasons of plowingH2758 and harvestingH7105, you must restH7673.

22And you are to celebrateH6213 the FeastH2282 of WeeksH76205 with the firstfruitsH1061 of the wheatH2406 harvestH7105, and the FeastH2282 of IngatheringH6146 at the turnH8622 of the yearH8141. 23ThreeH7969 timesH6471 a yearH8141 allH3605 your malesH2138H854 are to appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LordH113 GODH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 24ForH3588 I will drive outH3423 the nationsH1471 before youH6440 and enlargeH7337 your bordersH1366, and noH3808 oneH376 will covetH2530 your landH776 when you go upH5927 threeH7969 timesH6471 a yearH8141 to appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 your GodH430.

25Do notH3808 offerH7819 the bloodH1818 of a sacrifice to MeH2077 along withH5921 anything leavenedH2557, and do not letH3808 any of the sacrificeH2077 from the PassoverH6453 FeastH2282 remainH3885 until morningH1242.

26BringH935 the bestH7225 of the firstfruitsH1061 of your soilH127 to the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430.

You must notH3808 cookH1310 a young goatH1423 in its mother’sH517 milkH2461.”

27The LORDH3068 also saidH559 toH413 MosesH4872, “Write downH3789 theseH428 wordsH1697, forH3588 in accordance withH5921H6310 theseH428 wordsH1697 I have madeH3772 a covenantH1285 withH854 you and withH854 IsraelH3478.”

28So Moses wasH1961 thereH8033 withH5973 the LORDH3068 fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915 withoutH3808 eatingH398 breadH3899 or drinkingH8354H3789H3808 waterH4325. He wrote onH5921 the tabletsH3871 the wordsH1697 of the covenantH1285—the TenH6235 CommandmentsH1697.7

29AndH1961 when MosesH4872 came downH3381 from MountH2022 SinaiH5514 with the twoH8147 tabletsH3871 of the TestimonyH5715 in hisH4872 handsH3027, heH4872 was unawareH3808H3045 thatH3588 his faceH5785H6440 had become radiantH7160 from speakingH1696 withH854 the LORD. 30AaronH175 and allH3605 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 looked atH7200 MosesH4872, and beholdH2009, his faceH5785H6440 was radiantH7160. And they were afraidH3372 to approachH5066 himH413.

31But MosesH4872 called outH7121 to themH413; so AaronH175 and allH3605 the leadersH5387 of the congregationH5712 returnedH7725 to himH413, and MosesH4872 spokeH1696 to themH413. 32And afterH310 thisH3651 allH3605 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 came nearH5066, and Moses commandedH6680 themH853 to do everythingH3605 thatH834 the LORDH3068H854 had told himH1696 on MountH2022 SinaiH5514.

33When MosesH4872 had finishedH3615 speakingH1696 with themH854, he putH5414 a veilH4533 overH5921 his faceH6440. 34But whenever MosesH4872 went inH935 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 to speakH1696 with HimH854, he would removeH5493 the veilH4533 untilH5704 he came outH3318. And when he came outH3318, he would tellH1696H413 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 whatH834 he had been commandedH6680, 35and the IsraelitesH1121H3478 would seeH7200 thatH3588 the faceH6440 of MosesH4872 was radiantH7160H5785. So MosesH4872 would put the veilH4533 backH7725 overH5921H6440 his faceH6440H4872 untilH5704 he went inH935 to speakH1696 withH854 the LORD.
