The Altar of Incense

(Exodus 37:25–29)

1“You are also to makeH6213 an altarH4196 of acaciaH7848 woodH6086 for the burningH4729 of incenseH7004. 2It is to beH1961 squareH7251, a cubitH520 longH753, a cubitH520 wideH7341, and two cubitsH520 highH6967.1 Its hornsH7161 must be of one pieceH4480. 3OverlayH6823 with pureH2889 goldH2091 the topH1406 and allH5439 the sidesH7023 and hornsH7161, and makeH6213 a moldingH2213 of goldH2091 around itH5439. 4And makeH6213 twoH8147 goldH2091 ringsH2885 belowH8478 the moldingH2213 onH5921H8147 opposite sidesH6654 toH1961 holdH1004 the polesH905 used to carry itH5375. 5MakeH6213 the polesH905 of acaciaH7848 woodH6086 and overlayH6823 themH853 with goldH2091.

6PlaceH5414 the altar in frontH6440 of the veilH6532 thatH834 is beforeH5921 the arkH727 of the TestimonyH57152—beforeH6440 the mercy seatH3727 thatH834 is overH5921 the TestimonyH5715—whereH834 I will meetH3259 with youH8033. 7And AaronH175 is to burnH6999 fragrantH5561 incenseH7004 on itH5921 every morningH1242 when he tendsH3190 the lampsH5216. 8When AaronH175 sets upH5927 the lampsH5216 atH996 twilightH6153,3 he must burnH6999 the incenseH7004 perpetuallyH8548 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 for the generations to comeH1755. 9OnH5921 this altar you must notH3808 offerH5927 unauthorizedH21144 incenseH7004 or a burnt offeringH5930 or grain offeringH4503; nor are youH3808 to pourH5258 a drink offeringH5262 on itH5921.

10OnceH259 a yearH8141 AaronH175 shall make atonementH3722 onH5921 the hornsH7161 of the altar. Throughout your generationsH1755 he shall make atonementH3722 on itH5921 annuallyH259H8141 with the bloodH1818 of the sin offeringH24035 of atonementH3725. The altarH1931 is mostH6944 holyH6944 to the LORDH3068.”

The Census Offering

(2 Samuel 24:1–9; 1 Chronicles 21:1–6)

11Then the LORDH3068 saidH1696 toH413 MosesH4872H559, 12“WhenH3588 you take a censusH5375 of the IsraelitesH1121H3478 to number themH6485, each manH376 must payH5414 the LORDH3068 a ransomH3724 for his lifeH5315 when he is countedH6485. Then noH3808 plagueH5063 will comeH1961 upon them when they are numberedH6485. 13EveryoneH3605 who crossesH5674 overH5921 to those countedH6485 must payH5414 a halfH4276 shekelH8255,6 according to the sanctuaryH6944 shekelH8255, which weighs twentyH6242 gerahsH1626.7 This halfH4276 shekelH8255 is an offeringH8641 to the LORDH3068.

14EveryoneH3605 twenty yearsH6242 of ageH1121H8141 or olderH4605 who crossesH5674 overH5921 must giveH5414 this offeringH8641 to the LORDH3068. 15In makingH5414 the offeringH8641 to the LORDH3068 to atoneH3722 forH5921 your livesH5315, the richH6223 shall notH3808 give moreH7235 than a halfH4276 shekelH8255, nor shallH3808 the poorH1800 give lessH4591. 16TakeH3947 the atonementH3725H854 moneyH3701 from the IsraelitesH1121H3478 and useH5414 it forH5921 the serviceH5656 of the TentH168 of MeetingH4150. It will serve asH1961 a memorialH2146 for the IsraelitesH1121H3478 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 to make atonementH3722 forH5921 your livesH5315.”

(Exodus 38:8)

17And the LORDH3068 saidH1696 toH413 MosesH4872, 18“You are to makeH6213 a bronzeH5178 basinH3595 with a bronzeH5178 standH3653 for washingH7364. SetH5414 it betweenH996 the TentH168 of MeetingH4150H996 and the altarH4196, and putH5414 waterH4325 in itH8033, 19with whichH4480 AaronH175 and his sonsH1121 are to washH7364 their handsH3027 and feetH7272. 20Whenever they enterH935H413 the TentH168 of MeetingH4150 orH176 approachH5066H413 the altarH4196 to ministerH8334 by presentingH6999 a food offeringH801 to the LORDH3068, they must washH7364 with waterH4325 so that they will notH3808 dieH4191. 21Thus they are to washH7364 their handsH3027 and feetH7272 so that they will notH3808 dieH4191; this shall beH1961 a permanentH5769 statuteH2706 for Aaron and his descendantsH2233 for the generations to comeH1755.”

The Anointing Oil

22Then the LORDH3068 saidH1696 toH413 MosesH4872H559, 23“TakeH3947 the finestH7218 spicesH1314: 500 shekelsH2568H3967 of liquidH1865 myrrhH4753,8 halfH4276 that amount (250 shekelsH2572H3967) of fragrantH1314 cinnamonH7076,9 250 shekelsH2572H3967 of fragrantH1314 caneH7070,10 24500 shekelsH2568H3967 of cassiaH691611—all according to the sanctuaryH6944 shekelH8255—and a hinH1969 of oliveH2132 oilH8081.12 25PrepareH6213 from these a sacredH6944 anointingH4888 oilH8081, a fragrant blendH7545H4842, the workH4639 of a perfumerH7543; it will beH1961 a sacredH6944 anointingH4888 oilH8081.

26Use this oil to anointH4886 the TentH168 of MeetingH4150, the arkH727 of the TestimonyH5715, 27the tableH7979 andH853 allH3605 its utensilsH3627, the lampstandH4501 andH853 its utensilsH3627, the altarH4196 of incenseH7004, 28the altarH4196 of burnt offeringH5930 andH853 allH3605 its utensilsH3627, and the basinH3595 with its standH3653. 29You are to consecrateH6942 themH853 so that they will beH1961 mostH6944 holyH6944. WhateverH3605 touchesH5060 them shall be holyH6942. 30AnointH4886 AaronH175 and his sonsH1121 and consecrateH6942 themH853 to serve Me as priestsH3547.

31And you are to tellH1696H559H413 the IsraelitesH1121H3478, ‘ThisH2088 will beH1961 My sacredH6944 anointingH4888 oilH8081 for the generations to comeH1755. 32It must notH3808 be used to anointH5480H5921 an ordinary manH120H1320, and you must notH3808 makeH6213 anything like itH3644 with the same formulaH4971. ItH1931 is holyH6944, and it must beH1961 holyH6944 to you. 33AnyoneH376 whoH834 mixes perfumeH7543 like itH3644 or putsH5414 it onH5921 an outsiderH2114 shall be cut offH3772 from his peopleH5971.’”

34The LORD alsoH3068 saidH559 toH413 MosesH4872, “TakeH3947 fragrant spicesH5561—gum resinH5198, onychaH7827, galbanumH2464, and pureH2134 frankincenseH3828—in equal measuresH905, 35and makeH6213 a fragrant blend of incenseH7004, the work of a perfumerH7543, seasoned with saltH4414, pureH2889 and holyH6944. 36GrindH7833 some of itH4480 into fine powderH1854 and placeH5414 itH4480 in front ofH6440 the TestimonyH571513 in the TentH168 of MeetingH4150, whereH834 I will meetH3259 with youH8033. It shall beH1961 mostH6944 holyH6944 to you. 37You are never to useH6213H3808 this formulaH4971 to makeH6213 incenseH7004 for yourselves; you shall regard it as holyH6944H1961 to the LORDH3068. 38AnyoneH376 whoH834 makesH6213 something likeH3644 it to enjoyH7306 its fragrance shall be cut offH3772 from his peopleH5971.”
