The Two Tablets Replaced

1Now the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “CutH6458 outH6458 for yourself 1twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 like the formerH7223 onesH7223, and 2I will writeH3789 on the tabletsH3871 the wordsH1697 that were on the formerH7223 tabletsH3871 whichH834 you smashedH7665. 2So be readyH3559 by morningH1242, and comeH5927 upH5927 in the morningH1242 to 3MountH2022 SinaiH5514, and 4presentH5324 yourself thereH8033 to Me on the topH7218 of the mountainH2022. 3And 5noH3808 oneH376 is to comeH5927 upH5927 with you, norH1571H408 let anyoneH376 be seenH7200 6anywhereH3605 on the mountainH2022; evenH1571 the flocksH6629 and the herdsH1241 are not to grazeH7462 in frontH4136 of that mountainH2022.” 4So he cutH6458 outH6458 7twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 like the formerH7223 onesH7223, and MosesH4872 gotH7925 upH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 and wentH5927 upH5927 to MountH2022 SinaiH5514, as the LordH3068 had commandedH6680 him, and he tookH3947 the twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 in his handH3027. 5And 8the LordH3068 descendedH3381 in the cloudH6051 and stoodH3320 thereH8033 with him as he 9calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of the LordH3068. 6Then the LordH3068 passedH5674 byH5674 in frontH6440 of him and proclaimedH7121, “The LordH3068, the LordH3068 GodH410, 10compassionateH7349 and mercifulH2587, slowH750 to angerH639, and aboundingH7227 in faithfulnessH2617 and 11truthH571; 7who 12keepsH5341 faithfulnessH2617 for thousandsH505, who forgivesH5375 wrongdoingH5771, violationH6588 of His Law, and sinH2403; yet He 13will byH5352 noH3808 meansH5352 leaveH5352 the guilty unpunishedH5352, 14inflictingH6485 the 15punishmentH5771 of fathersH1 on the childrenH1121 and on the grandchildrenH1121 to the thirdH8029 and fourthH7256 generations.” 8And MosesH4872 hurriedH4116 1617to bowH6915 lowH6915 towardH413 the groundH776 and worshipH2331. 9Then he saidH559, “18IfH518 in anyH4994 wayH4994 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, LordH136, pleaseH4994 may the LordH136 goH1980 along in our midstH7130, evenH3588 thoughH3588 1920the peopleH5971 are so obstinateH7186H6203, and 21pardonH5545 our wrongdoingH5771 and our sinH2403, and 22takeH5157 us asH5157 Your own 23possessionH5157.”

The Covenant Renewed

10Then 24God saidH559, “BeholdH2009, 25I am going to makeH3772 a covenantH1285. BeforeH5048 allH3605 your peopleH5971 26I will performH6213 miraclesH6381 whichH834 have not been 27producedH1254 in allH3605 the earthH776 norH3808 among anyH3605 of the nationsH1471; and allH3605 the peopleH5971 28amongH7130 whomH834 you live will seeH7200 the workingH4639 of the LordH3068, for it is a fearfulH3372 thingH3372 that I am going to performH6213 with you.

11“29Be sure to complyH8104 withH8104 whatH834 I am commandingH6680 you this dayH3117: beholdH2009, 30I am going to driveH1644 outH1644 the AmoriteH567 from you, and the CanaaniteH3669, the HittiteH2850, the PerizziteH6522, the HiviteH2340, and the JebusiteH2983. 1231BeH8104 carefulH8104 that you do not makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 into whichH834 you are goingH935, orH6435 it will becomeH1961 a snareH4170 in your midstH7130. 1332But rather, you are to tearH5422 downH5422 their altarsH4196 and smashH7665 their memorialH4676 stonesH4676, and cutH3772 downH3772 their 3334AsherimH842 14--for 35you shall not worshipH2331 anyH312 otherH312 godH410, becauseH3588 the LordH3068, whose nameH8034 is JealousH7067, is a jealousH7067 GodH410-- 15otherwiseH6435 you mightH6435 makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776, and they would prostituteH2181 themselves with their godsH430 and 36sacrificeH2076 to their godsH430, and someone 37might inviteH7121 you 38to eatH398 of his sacrificeH2077, 16and 39you might takeH3947 someH4480 of his daughtersH1323 for your sonsH1121, and his daughtersH1323 might prostituteH2181 themselves with their godsH430 and cause your sonsH1121 also to prostituteH2181 themselves with their godsH430. 1740You shall not makeH6213 for yourself any godsH430 castH4541 inH4541 metalH4541.

18“You shall keepH8104 41the FeastH2282 of UnleavenedH4682 BreadH4682. For 42sevenH7651 daysH3117 you are to eatH398 unleavenedH4682 breadH4682, 43as I commandedH6680 you, at the appointedH4150 timeH4150 in the 44monthH2320 of AbibH24; for in the monthH2320 of AbibH24 you cameH3318 outH3318 of EgyptH4714.

19“45The 46firstbornH1060 from everyH3605 wombH7358 belongs to Me, and allH3605 your maleH2145 livestockH4735, the 47firstbornH1060 from 48cattleH7794 and sheepH7716. 2049You shall redeemH6299 with a lambH7716 the firstbornH1060 from a donkeyH2543; and ifH518 you do not redeemH6299 it, then you shall breakH6202 its neckH6202. You shall redeemH6299 50allH3605 the firstbornH1060 of your sonsH1121. 5152NoneH3808 are to appearH7200 beforeH6440 Me empty-handedH7387.

21“You shall workH5647 53sixH8337 daysH3117, but on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 you shall restH7673; even during plowingH2758 timeH2758 and harvestH7105 you shall restH7673. 22And you shall celebrateH6213 54the FeastH2282 of WeeksH7620, that is, the firstH1061 fruitsH1061 of the wheatH2406 harvestH7105, and the FeastH2282 of IngatheringH614 at the turnH8622 of the yearH8141. 2355ThreeH7969 timesH6471 a yearH8141 allH3605 your malesH2138 are to appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LordH113 56GodH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 24For I will 5758driveH3423 outH3423 nationsH1471 from you and enlargeH7337 your bordersH1366, and noH3808 oneH376 will covetH2530 your landH776 when you goH5927 upH5927 threeH7969 timesH6471 a yearH8141 to appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 your GodH430.

25“59You shall not 60offerH7819 the bloodH1818 of My sacrificeH2077 with leavenedH2557 breadH2557, 61norH3808 is the sacrificeH2077 of the FeastH2282 of the PassoverH6453 to 62be leftH3885 overH3885 until morningH1242.

26“You shall bringH935 63the very firstH7225 of the firstH1061 fruitsH1061 of your soilH127 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 your GodH430.

“You shall not boilH1310 a youngH1423 goatH1423 in its mother’sH517 milkH2461.”

27Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “64WriteH3789 65downH3789 theseH428 wordsH1697, for inH5921 accordanceH5921H6310 withH5921 theseH428 wordsH1697 I have madeH3772 66a covenantH1285 with you and with IsraelH3478.” 28So he was thereH8033 with the LordH3068 for 67fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915; he did not eatH398 breadH3899 or drinkH8354 waterH4325. And 6869He wroteH3789 on the tabletsH3871 the wordsH1697 of the covenantH1285, 70the TenH6235 71CommandmentsH1697.

Moses’ Face Shines

29And it cameH1961 aboutH1961, when MosesH4872 was comingH3381 downH3381 from MountH2022 SinaiH5514 (and the 72twoH8147 tabletsH3871 of the testimonyH5715 were in Moses’H4872 handH3027 as he was comingH3381 downH3381 from the mountainH2022), that MosesH4872 did not knowH3045 that 73the skinH5785 of his faceH6440 shoneH7160 because of his speakingH1696 with Him. 30So when AaronH175 and allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 MosesH4872, beholdH2009, the skinH5785 of his faceH6440 shoneH7160, and 74they were afraidH3372 to approachH5066 him. 31Then MosesH4872 calledH7121 to them, and AaronH175 and allH3605 the rulersH5387 in the congregationH5712 returnedH7725 to him; and MosesH4872 spokeH1696 to them. 32AfterwardH310 allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 cameH5066 nearH5066, and he commandedH6680 them to do everythingH3605 that the LordH3068 had spokenH1696 75to him on MountH2022 SinaiH5514. 33When MosesH4872 had finishedH3615 speakingH1696 with them, 76he putH5414 a veilH4533 overH5921 his faceH6440. 34But whenever MosesH4872 wentH935 inH935 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 to speakH1696 with Him, 77he would takeH5493 offH5493 the veilH4533 untilH5704 he cameH3318 outH3318; and whenever he cameH3318 outH3318 and spokeH1696 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 whatH834 he had been commandedH6680, 3578the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 would seeH7200 the faceH6440 of MosesH4872, that the skinH5785 of Moses’H4872 faceH6440 shoneH7160. So MosesH4872 would putH7725 the veilH4533 backH7725 overH5921 his faceH6440 untilH5704 he wentH935 inH935 to speakH1696 with Him.
