Exodus 19
Israel at Mount Sinai
1In the thirdH7992 monthH2320, on the sameH2088 dayH3117 of the month1 that the IsraelitesH1121H3478 had leftH3318 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, they cameH935 to the WildernessH4057 of SinaiH5514. 2After they had set outH5265 from RephidimH7508, they enteredH935 the WildernessH4057 of SinaiH5514, and IsraelH3478 campedH2583 thereH8033 in front ofH5048 the mountainH2022.
3Then MosesH4872 went upH5927 toH413 GodH430, and the LORDH3068 calledH7121 to himH413 fromH4480 the mountainH2022, “This is whatH3541H559 you are to tellH559 the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 and explainH5046 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478: 4‘YouH859 have seen for yourselvesH7200 whatH834 I didH6213 to EgyptH4714, and how I carriedH5375 you onH5921 eaglesH5404’ wingsH3671 and broughtH935 youH853 to MyselfH413. 5NowH6258 ifH518 you will indeed obeyH8085 My voiceH6963 and keepH8104 My covenantH1285, you will beH1961 My treasured possessionH5459 out of allH3605 the nationsH5971—forH3588 the wholeH3605 earthH776 is Mine. 6And unto Me youH859 shall beH1961 a kingdomH4467 of priestsH3548 and a holyH6918 nationH1471.’ TheseH428 are the wordsH1697 thatH834 you are to speakH1696 toH413 the IsraelitesH1121H3478.”
7So MosesH4872 went backH935 and summonedH7121 the eldersH2205 of the peopleH5971 and setH7760 beforeH6440 themH853 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had commanded himH6680. 8And allH3605 the peopleH5971 answeredH6030 togetherH3162H559, “We will doH6213 everythingH3605 thatH834 the LORDH3068 has spokenH1696.”
So MosesH4872 broughtH7725 their wordsH1697 back toH413 the LORDH3068.
9The LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 MosesH4872, “BeholdH2009, IH595 will comeH935 toH413 you in a denseH5645 cloudH6051, so thatH5668 the peopleH5971 will hearH8085 when I speakH1696 with youH5973, andH1571 they will alwaysH5769 put their trustH539 in you.”
And MosesH4872 relayedH5046 toH413 the LORDH3068 what the peopleH5971 had saidH1697.
10Then the LORDH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “GoH1980H413 toH413 the peopleH5971 and consecrate themH6942 todayH3117 and tomorrowH4279. They must washH3526 their clothesH8071 11and beH1961 preparedH3559 by the thirdH7992 dayH3117, forH3588 on the thirdH7992 dayH3117 the LORDH3068 will come downH3381 onH5921 MountH2022 SinaiH5514 in the sightH5869 of allH3605 the peopleH5971.
12And you are to set up a boundaryH1379 for the peopleH5971 aroundH5439 the mountain and tell themH559, ‘Be carefulH8104 not to go upH5927 on the mountainH2022 or touchH5060 its baseH7097. WhoeverH3605 touchesH5060 the mountainH2022 shall surely be put to deathH4191. 13NoH3808 handH3027 shall touchH5060 him, butH3588 he shall surely be stonedH5619 orH176 shotH3384 with arrowsH3384—whetherH518 manH376 orH518 beastH929, he must notH3808 liveH2421.’2
Only when the ram’s hornH3104 sounds a long blastH4900 may theyH1992 approachH5927 the mountainH2022.3”
14When MosesH4872 came downH3381 fromH4480 the mountainH2022 toH413 the peopleH5971, he consecrated themH6942, and they washedH3526 their clothesH8071. 15“BeH1961 preparedH3559 for the thirdH7969 dayH3117,” he saidH559 toH413 the peopleH5971. “Do notH408 draw nearH5066 toH413 a womanH802.”
The LORD Visits Sinai
16On the thirdH7992 dayH3117, when morningH1242H1961 cameH1961, there wasH1961 thunderH6963 and lightningH1300. A thickH3515 cloudH6051 was uponH5921 the mountainH2022, and a very loudH2389H3966 blastH6963 of the ram’s hornH7782 went out, so that allH3605 the peopleH5971 in the campH4264 trembledH2729. 17Then MosesH4872 broughtH3318 the peopleH5971 out ofH4480 the campH4264 to meetH7122 with GodH430, and they stoodH3320 at the footH8482 of the mountainH2022.
18MountH2022 SinaiH5514 was completelyH3605 enveloped in smokeH6225, becauseH6440 the LORDH3068 had descendedH3381 on itH5921 in fireH784. And the smokeH6227 roseH5927 like the smokeH6227 of a furnaceH3536, and the wholeH3605 mountainH2022 quakedH2729 violentlyH3966. 19And asH1961 the soundH6963 of the ram’s hornH7782 grew louderH1980H2390 and louderH3966, MosesH4872 spokeH1696 and GodH430 answered himH6030 in the thunderH6963.
20The LORDH3068 descendedH3381 toH413 the topH7218 ofH5921 MountH2022 SinaiH5514 and calledH7121 MosesH4872 toH413 the summitH7218H2022. SoH4872 Moses went upH5927, 21and the LORDH3068H413 saidH559 toH4872 him, “Go downH3381 and warnH5749 the peopleH5971 notH6435 to break throughH2040H413 to seeH7200 the LORDH3068, lest manyH7227 of themH4480 perishH5307. 22EvenH1571 the priestsH3548 who approachH5066H413 the LORDH3068 must consecrate themselvesH6942, orH6435 the LORDH3068 will break outH6555 against them.”
23But MosesH4872 saidH559 toH413 the LORDH3068, “The peopleH5971 cannotH3808H3201 come upH5927H413 MountH2022 SinaiH5514, forH3588 YouH859 solemnly warnedH5749 usH559, ‘Put a boundary aroundH1379 the mountainH2022 and set it apart as holyH6942.’”
24And the LORDH3068 repliedH559, “GoH1980 downH3381 and bringH5927 AaronH175 withH5973 youH859. But the priestsH3548 and the peopleH5971 must notH408 break throughH2040 to come upH5927 toH413 the LORDH3068, orH6435 He will break outH6555 against them.”
25So MosesH4872 went downH3381 toH413 the peopleH5971 and spokeH559 to themH413.
