The Song at the Sea

(Judges 5:1–31)

1ThenH227 MosesH4872 and the IsraelitesH1121H3478 sangH7891 thisH2063 songH7892 to the LORDH3068:

“I will singH7891 to the LORDH3068,forH3588 He is highly exaltedH1342.The horseH5483 and riderH7392He has thrownH7411 into the seaH3220.2The LORDH3050 is my strengthH5797 and my songH2176,and He has becomeH1961 my salvationH3444.HeH2088 is my GodH410, and I will praise HimH5115,my father’sH1 GodH430, and I will exalt HimH7311.
3The LORDH3068 is a warriorH376H4421,the LORDH3068 is His nameH8034.4Pharaoh’sH6547 chariotsH4818 and armyH2428He has castH3384 into the seaH3220;the finestH4005 of his officersH7991are drownedH2883 in the RedH5488 SeaH3220.15The depthsH8415 have covered themH3680;they sankH3381 there likeH3644 a stoneH68.
6Your right handH3225, O LORDH3068,is majesticH142 in powerH3581;Your right handH3225, O LORDH3068,has shatteredH7492 the enemyH341.7You overthrewH2040 Your adversariesH6965by Your greatH7230 majestyH1347.You unleashedH7971 Your burning wrathH2740;it consumed themH398 like stubbleH7179.8At the blastH7307 of Your nostrilsH639the watersH4325 piled upH6192;likeH3644 a wallH5067 the currentsH5140 stood firmH5324;the depthsH8415 congealedH7087 in the heartH3820 of the seaH3220.
9The enemyH341 declaredH559,‘I will pursueH7291, I will overtakeH5381.I will divideH2505 the spoilsH7998;I will gorge myself on themH4390.I will drawH7324 my swordH2719;my handH3027 will destroy themH3423.’10But You blewH5398 with Your breathH7307,and the seaH3220 covered themH3680.They sankH6749 like leadH5777in the mightyH117 watersH4325.
11WhoH4310 among the godsH410 is like YouH3644, O LORDH3068?WhoH4310 is like YouH3644—majesticH142 in holinessH6944,reveredH3372 with praisesH8416,performingH6213 wondersH6382?12You stretched outH5186 Your right handH3225,and the earthH776 swallowed them upH1104.13With loving devotionH26172 You will leadH5148the peopleH5971H2098 You have redeemedH1350;with Your strengthH5797 You will guide themH5095toH413 Your holyH6944 dwellingH5116.
14The nationsH5971 will hearH8085 and trembleH7264;anguishH2427 will gripH270 the dwellersH3427 of PhilistiaH6429.15ThenH227 the chiefsH441 of EdomH123 will be dismayedH926;tremblingH7461 will seizeH270 the leadersH352 of MoabH4124;those who dwellH3427 in CanaanH3667 will melt awayH4127H3605,16and terrorH367 and dreadH6343 will fallH5307 on themH5921.By the powerH1419 of Your armH2220they will be as stillH1826 as a stoneH68untilH5704 Your peopleH5971 pass byH5674, O LORDH3068,untilH5704 the peopleH5971 You have boughtH7069 pass byH5674.
17You will bring them inH935 and plant themH5193on the mountainH2022 of Your inheritanceH5159—the placeH4349, O LORDH3068, You have preparedH6466 for Your dwellingH3427,the sanctuaryH4720, O LordH136, Your handsH3027 have establishedH3559.
18The LORDH3068 will reignH4427 foreverH5769 and everH5703!”

19For whenH3588 Pharaoh’sH6547 horsesH5483, chariotsH7393, and horsemenH6571 wentH935 into the seaH3220, the LORDH3068 brought the watersH4325 of the seaH3220 backH7725 over themH5921. But the IsraelitesH1121H3478 walkedH1980 throughH8432 the seaH3220 on dry groundH3004.

20Then MiriamH4813 the prophetessH5031, Aaron’sH175 sisterH269, tookH3947 a tambourineH8596 in her handH3027, and allH3605 the womenH802H310 followed herH3318 with tambourinesH8596 and dancingH4246. 21And MiriamH4813 sang backH6030 to them:

“SingH7891 to the LORDH3068,forH3588 He is highly exaltedH1342;the horseH5483 and riderH7392He has thrownH7411 into the seaH3220.”

The Waters of Marah

22Then MosesH4872 ledH5265 IsraelH3478 from the RedH5488 SeaH3220, and they went outH3318 intoH413 the DesertH4057 of ShurH7793. For threeH7969 daysH3117 they walkedH1980 in the desertH4057 withoutH3808 findingH4672 waterH4325. 23And when they cameH935 to MarahH4785,3 they couldH3201 notH3808 drinkH8354 the waterH4325 there becauseH3588 itH1992 was bitterH4751. (That is whyH5921H3651 it was namedH7121H8034 MarahH4785.)

24So the peopleH5971 grumbledH3885 againstH5921 MosesH4872, sayingH559, “WhatH4100 are we to drinkH8354?” 25And Moses cried outH6817 toH413 the LORDH3068, and the LORDH3068 showed himH3384 a logH6086. And when he cast itH7993 intoH413 the watersH4325, they were sweetenedH4985.

ThereH8033 the LORD madeH7760 for them a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941, and thereH8033 He tested themH5254, 26sayingH559, “IfH518 you will listen carefullyH8085 to the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, and doH6213 what is rightH3477 in His eyesH5869, and pay attentionH238 to His commandsH4687, and keepH8104 allH3605 His statutesH2706, then I will notH3808 bringH7760 on youH5921 anyH3605 of the diseasesH4245 I inflictedH7760 on the EgyptiansH4714. ForH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068 who heals youH7495.”

27Then they cameH935 to ElimH362, whereH8033 there were twelveH8147H6240 springsH5869 of waterH4325 and seventyH7657 palm treesH8558, and they campedH2583 thereH8033 byH5921 the watersH4325.
