New American Standard Bible 1995
The Two Tablets Replaced
1Now the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “CutH6458 out for yourself 1twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 like the formerH7223 onesH7223, and 2I will writeH3789 on the tabletsH3871 the wordsH1697 that were on the formerH7223 tabletsH3871 whichH834 you shatteredH7665. 2So be readyH3559 by morningH1242, and comeH5927 up in the morningH1242 to 3MountH2022 SinaiH5514, and 4presentH5324 yourselfH5324 thereH8033 to Me on the topH7218 of the mountainH2022. 35NoH3808 manH376 is to comeH5927 up with you, norH408 let anyH1571 manH376 be seenH7200 6anywhereH3605 on the mountainH2022; evenH1571 the flocksH6629 and the herdsH1241 may not grazeH7462 in frontH4136 of that mountainH2022.” 4So he cutH6458 out 7twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 like the formerH7223 onesH7223, and MosesH4872 roseH7925 up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 and wentH5927 up to MountH2022 SinaiH5514, as the LordH3068 had commandedH6680 him, and he tookH3947 twoH8147 stoneH68 tabletsH3871 in his handH3027. 58The LordH3068 descendedH3381 in the cloudH6051 and stoodH3320 thereH8033 with him as 9he calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of the LordH3068. 6Then the LordH3068 passedH5674 by in frontH6440 of him and proclaimedH7121, “The LordH3068, the LordH3068 GodH410, 10compassionateH7349 and graciousH2587, slowH750 to angerH639, and aboundingH7227 in lovingkindnessH2617 and 11truthH571; 7who 12keepsH5341 lovingkindnessH2617 for thousandsH505, who forgivesH5375 iniquityH5771, transgressionH6588 and sinH2403; yet He 13will by noH3808 meansH5352 leaveH5352 the guilty unpunishedH5352, 14visitingH6485 the iniquityH5771 of fathersH1 on the childrenH1121 and on the grandchildrenH1121 to the thirdH8029 and fourthH7256 generations.” 8MosesH4872 madeH4116 hasteH4116 1516to bowH6915 lowH6915 towardH413 the earthH776 and worshipH7812. 9He saidH559, “17IfH518 nowH4994 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, O LordH136, I prayH4994, let the LordH136 goH1980 along in our midstH7130, evenH3588 thoughH3588 1819the peopleH5971 are so obstinateH7186H6203, and 20pardonH5545 our iniquityH5771 and our sinH2403, and 21takeH5157 us as Your own 22possessionH5157.”
The Covenant Renewed
10Then 23God saidH559, “BeholdH2009, 24I am going to makeH3772 a covenantH1285. BeforeH5048 allH3605 your peopleH5971 25I will performH6213 miraclesH6381 whichH834 have not been 26producedH1254 in allH3605 the earthH776 norH3808 among anyH3605 of the nationsH1471; and allH3605 the peopleH5971 27amongH7130 whomH834 you live will seeH7200 the workingH4639 of the LordH3068, for it is a fearfulH3372 thingH3372 that I am going to performH6213 with you.
11“28Be sure to observeH8104 whatH834 I am commandingH6680 you this dayH3117: beholdH2009, 29I am going to driveH1644 out the AmoriteH567 beforeH4480H6440 you, and the CanaaniteH3669, the HittiteH2850, the PerizziteH6522, the HiviteH2340 and the JebusiteH2983. 1230WatchH8104 yourself that you makeH3772 noH6435 covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 into whichH834 you are goingH935, orH6435 it will becomeH1961 a snareH4170 in your midstH7130. 1331But rather, you are to tearH5422 downH5422 their altarsH4196 and smashH7665 their sacred pillarsH4676 and cutH3772 downH3772 their 3233AsherimH842 14--for 34you shall not worshipH7812 anyH312 otherH312 godH410, for the LordH3068, whose nameH8034 is JealousH7067, is a jealousH7067 GodH410-- 15otherwiseH6435 you mightH6435 makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 and they would playH2181 the harlotH2181 with their godsH430 and 35sacrificeH2076 to their godsH430, and someone 36might inviteH7121 you 37to eatH398 of his sacrificeH2077, 16and 38you might takeH3947 someH4480 of his daughtersH1323 for your sonsH1121, and his daughtersH1323 might playH2181 the harlotH2181 with their godsH430 and cause your sonsH1121 also to playH2181 the harlotH2181 with their godsH430. 1739You shall makeH6213 for yourself noH3808 moltenH4541 godsH430.
18“You shall observeH8104 40the FeastH2282 of UnleavenedH4682 BreadH4682. For 41sevenH7651 daysH3117 you are to eatH398 unleavenedH4682 breadH4682, 42as I commandedH6680 you, at the appointedH4150 timeH4150 in the 43monthH2320 of AbibH24, for in the monthH2320 of AbibH24 you cameH3318 out of EgyptH4714.
19“44The firstH6363 offspringH6363 from everyH3605 wombH7358 belongs to Me, and allH3605 your maleH2145 livestockH4735, the firstH6363 offspringH6363 from 45cattleH7794 and sheepH7716. 2046You shall redeemH6299 with a lambH7716 the 47firstH6363 offspringH6363 from a donkeyH2543; and ifH518 you do not redeemH6299 it, then you shall breakH6202 its neckH6202. You shall redeemH6299 48allH3605 the firstbornH1060 of your sonsH1121. 4950NoneH3808 shall appearH7200 beforeH6440 Me empty-handedH7387.
21“You shall workH5647 51sixH8337 daysH3117, but on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 you shall restH7673; even during plowingH2758 timeH2758 and harvestH7105 you shall restH7673. 22You shall celebrateH6213 52the FeastH2282 of WeeksH7620, that is, the firstH1061 fruitsH1061 of the wheatH2406 harvestH7105, and the FeastH2282 of IngatheringH614 at the turnH8622 of the yearH8141. 2353ThreeH7969 timesH6471 a yearH8141 allH3605 your malesH2138 are to appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LordH113 54GodH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 24For I will 5556driveH3423 out nationsH1471 beforeH4480H6440 you and enlargeH7337 your bordersH1366, and noH3808 manH376 shall covetH2530 your landH776 when you goH5927 up threeH7969 timesH6471 a yearH8141 to appearH7200 beforeH6440 the LordH3068 your GodH430.
25“57You shall not 58offerH7819 the bloodH1818 of My sacrificeH2077 with leavenedH2557 breadH2557, 59norH3808 is the sacrificeH2077 of the FeastH2282 of the PassoverH6453 to 60be leftH3885 overH3885 until morningH1242.
26“You shall bringH935 61the very firstH7225 of the firstH1061 fruitsH1061 of your soilH127 into the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 your GodH430.
“You shall not boilH1310 a youngH1423 goatH1423 in its mother’sH517 milkH2461.”
27Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “62WriteH3789 63downH3789 theseH428 wordsH1697, for in accordanceH5921H6310 with theseH428 wordsH1697 I have madeH3772 64a covenantH1285 with you and with IsraelH3478.” 28So he was thereH8033 with the LordH3068 65fortyH705 daysH3117 and fortyH705 nightsH3915; he did not eatH398 breadH3899 or drinkH8354 waterH4325. And 6667he wroteH3789 on the tabletsH3871 the wordsH1697 of the covenantH1285, 68the TenH6235 69CommandmentsH1697.
Moses’ Face Shines
29It cameH1961 about when MosesH4872 was comingH3381 downH3381 from MountH2022 SinaiH5514 (and the 70twoH8147 tabletsH3871 of the testimonyH5715 were in Moses’H4872 handH3027 as he was comingH3381 downH3381 from the mountainH2022), that MosesH4872 did not knowH3045 that 71the skinH5785 of his faceH6440 shoneH7160 because of his speakingH1696 with Him. 30So when AaronH175 and allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 MosesH4872, beholdH2009, the skinH5785 of his faceH6440 shoneH7160, and 72they were afraidH3372 to comeH5066 nearH5066 him. 31Then MosesH4872 calledH7121 to them, and AaronH175 and allH3605 the rulersH5387 in the congregationH5712 returnedH7725 to him; and MosesH4872 spokeH1696 to them. 32AfterwardH310 allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 cameH5066 nearH5066, and he commandedH6680 them to do everythingH3605 that the LordH3068 had spokenH1696 73to him on MountH2022 SinaiH5514. 33When MosesH4872 had finishedH3615 speakingH1696 with them, 74he putH5414 a veilH4533 overH5921 his faceH6440. 34But whenever MosesH4872 wentH935 in beforeH6440 the LordH3068 to speakH1696 with Him, 75he would takeH5493 offH5493 the veilH4533 untilH5704 he cameH3318 out; and whenever he cameH3318 out and spokeH1696 to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 whatH834 he had been commandedH6680, 3576the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 would seeH7200 the faceH6440 of MosesH4872, that the skinH5785 of Moses’H4872 faceH6440 shoneH7160. So MosesH4872 would replaceH7725 the veilH4533 overH5921 his faceH6440 untilH5704 he wentH935 in to speakH1696 with Him.
