2 Chronicles 6
Revised Version 1895
1Then spake SolomonH8010, The LORDH3068 hath saidH559 that he would dwellH7931 in the thickH6205 darknessH6205. 2But I have builtH1129 thee an houseH1004 of habitationH2073, and a placeH4349 for thee to dwellH3427 in for everH5769. 3And the kingH4428 turnedH5437 his faceH6440, and blessedH1288 allH3605 the congregationH6951 of IsraelH3478: and allH3605 the congregationH6951 of IsraelH3478 stoodH5975. 4And he saidH559, BlessedH1288 be the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, whichH834 spake with his mouthH6310 unto DavidH1732 my fatherH1, and hath with his handsH3027 fulfilledH4390 it, sayingH559, 5SinceH4480 the dayH3117 that I broughtH3318 forthH3318 my peopleH5971 outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, I choseH977 noH3808 cityH5892 outH3318 of allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to buildH1129 an houseH1004 in, that my nameH8034 might be there; neitherH3808 choseH977 I anyH3605 manH376 to be princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478: 6but I have chosenH977 JerusalemH3389, that my nameH8034 might be there; and have chosenH977 DavidH1732 to be over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478. 7NowH1961 it was in the heartH3824 of DavidH1732 my fatherH1 to buildH1129 an houseH1004 for the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 8But the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto DavidH1732 my fatherH1, Whereas it was in thine heartH3824 to buildH1129 an houseH1004 for my nameH8034, thou didst wellH2895 that it was in thine heartH3824: 9neverthelessH3588 thou shalt notH3808 buildH1129 the houseH1004; but thy sonH1121 that shall comeH3318 forthH3318 outH3318 of thy loinsH2504, he shall buildH1129 the houseH1004 for my nameH8034. 10And the LORDH3068 hath performed his wordH1697 that he spake; for I am risenH6965 upH6965 in the roomH1004 of DavidH1732 my fatherH1, and sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478, as the LORDH3068 promisedH1696, and have builtH1129 the houseH1004 for the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478. 11And there have I setH7760 the arkH727, whereinH834 is the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068, whichH834 he madeH3772 with the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478. 12And he stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068 in the presenceH6440 of allH3605 the congregationH6951 of IsraelH3478, and spreadH6566 forth his handsH3709: 13(for SolomonH8010 had madeH6213 a brasen scaffold, of fiveH2568 cubitsH520 longH753, and fiveH2568 cubitsH520 broadH5048, and threeH7969 cubitsH520 highH6967, and had setH5414 it in the midstH8432 of the courtH5835; and uponH5921 it he stoodH5975, and kneeledH1290 downH5414 uponH5921 his kneesH1290 beforeH5048 allH3605 the congregationH6951 of IsraelH3478, and spreadH6566 forthH5414 his handsH3709 towardH5921 heavenH8064:) 14and he saidH559, O LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, there is noH369 GodH430 like thee, in the heavenH8064, or in the earthH776; who keepest covenantH1285 and mercyH3068 with thy servantsH5650, that walkH1980 beforeH6440 thee with allH3605 their heartH3820: 15who hast keptH8104 with thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 that whichH834 thou didst promiseH1696 him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouthH6310, and hast fulfilledH4390 it with thine handH3027, as it is this dayH3117. 16NowH6258 therefore, O LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, keepH8104 with thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 that whichH834 thou hast promisedH1696 him, sayingH559, There shall notH3808 failH3772 thee a manH376 in my sightH6440 to sitH3427 on the throneH3678 of IsraelH3478; ifH518 onlyH7535 thy childrenH1121 takeH8104 heedH8104 to their wayH1870, to walkH1980 in my lawH8451 as thou hast walkedH1980 beforeH6440 meH6440. 17NowH6258 therefore, O LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, letH6258 thy wordH1697 be verifiedH539, whichH834 thou spakest unto thy servantH5650 DavidH1732. 18But will GodH430 in veryH2088 deed dwellH3427 with menH120 on the earthH776? beholdH2009, heavenH8064 and the heavenH8064 of heavensH8064 cannotH3808 containH3557 thee; howH834 muchH637 lessH637 this houseH1004 whichH834 I have builded! 19Yet have thou respectH6437 unto the prayerH8605 of thy servantH5650, and to his supplicationH8467, O LORDH3068 my GodH430, to hearken unto the cryH7440 and to the prayerH8605 whichH834 thy servantH5650 prayeth beforeH6440 thee: 20that thine eyesH5869 may be openH6605 towardH413 this houseH1004 dayH3119 and nightH3915, even towardH413 the placeH4725 whereof thou hast saidH559 that thou wouldest putH7760 thy nameH8034 there; to hearken unto the prayerH8605 whichH834 thy servantH5650 shall prayH6419 towardH413 this placeH4725. 21And hearken thou to the supplicationsH8469 of thy servantH5650, and of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, when they shall prayH6419 towardH413 this placeH4725: yea, hearH8085 thou from thy dwellingH3427 placeH4725, even from heavenH8064; and when thou hearest, forgiveH5545. 22IfH518 a manH376 sinH2398 againstH6440 his neighbour, and an oathH423 be laidH5375 uponH935 him to cause him to swear, and he comeH935 and swear beforeH6440 thine altarH4196 in this houseH1004: 23then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, and doH6213, and judgeH8199 thy servantsH5650, requiting the wickedH7563, to bringH7725 his wayH1870 upon his own headH7218; and justifyingH6663 the righteousH6662, to giveH5414 him accordingH4480 to his righteousnessH6666. 24And ifH518 thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 be smitten downH5062 beforeH6440 the enemyH341, becauseH3588 they have sinnedH2398 againstH6440 thee; and shall turnH7725 againH7725 and confessH3034 thy nameH8034, and prayH6419 and makeH7725 supplicationH6419 beforeH6440 thee in this houseH1004: 25then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, and forgiveH5545 the sinH2403 of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and bringH7725 them againH7725 unto the landH127 whichH834 thou gavest to them and to their fathersH1. 26When the heavenH8064 is shutH6113 upH853, and there is noH3808 rainH4306, becauseH3588 they have sinnedH2398 againstH413 thee; ifH3588 they prayH6419 towardH413 this placeH4725, and confessH3034 thy nameH8034, and turnH7725 from their sinH2398, when thou dost afflictH6031 them: 27then hearH8085 thou in heavenH8064, and forgiveH5545 the sinH2403 of thy servantsH5650, and of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, when thou teachest them the goodH2896 wayH1870 whereinH834 they should walkH1870; and sendH5414 rainH4306 uponH5921 thy landH776, whichH834 thou hast givenH5414 to thy peopleH5971 for an inheritanceH5159. 28IfH3588 there be in the landH776 famineH7458, ifH3588 there be pestilenceH1698, ifH3588 there be blasting or mildewH3420, locustH697 or caterpiller; ifH3588 their enemiesH341 besiege them in the landH776 of their citiesH8179; whatsoeverH3605 plagueH1698 or whatsoeverH3605 sicknessH4245 there be; 29whatH834 prayerH8605 and supplicationH8467 soever be madeH3045 by anyH3605 manH376 or by allH3605 thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whichH834 shall knowH3045 everyH3605 manH376 his ownH1961 plagueH5061 and his ownH1961 sorrowH4341, and shall spreadH6566 forthH3045 his handsH3709 towardH413 this houseH1004: 30then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064 thy dwellingH3427 placeH4349, and forgiveH5545, and renderH5414 unto everyH3605 manH376 accordingH4480 to allH3605 his waysH1870, whoseH834 heartH3824 thou knowest; (for thou, evenH3588 thou onlyH905, knowest the heartsH3824 of the childrenH1121 of menH376;) 31that they may fearH3372 thee, to walkH1870 in thy waysH1870, soH4616 longH3117 as they liveH2416 in the landH127 whichH834 thou gavest unto our fathersH1. 32MoreoverH1571 concerning the strangerH5237, that is notH3808 of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, when he shall comeH935 from a farH7350 countryH776 for thy greatH1419 name’sH8034 sakeH4616, and thy mightyH2389 handH3027, and thy stretchedH5186 outH5186 armH2220; when they shall comeH935 and payH5186 towardH413 this houseH1004: 33then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, evenH3588 from thy dwellingH3427 placeH4349, and doH6213 accordingH5921 to allH3605 that the strangerH5237 calleth to thee for; that allH3605 the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 may knowH3045 thy nameH8034, and fearH3372 thee, as doth thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, and that they may knowH3045 that this houseH1004 whichH834 I have builtH1129, is calledH7121 by thy nameH8034. 34IfH3588 thy peopleH5971 goH3318 outH3318 to battleH4421 againstH5921 their enemiesH341, by whatsoever wayH1870 thou shalt sendH7971 them, and they prayH6419 unto thee towardH413 this cityH5892 whichH834 thou hast chosenH977, and the houseH1004 whichH834 I have builtH1129 for thy nameH8034: 35then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064 their prayerH8605 and their supplicationH8467, and maintain their causeH4941. 36IfH3588 they sinH2398 againstH413 thee, (for there is noH3808 manH120 that sinneth notH3808,) and thou be angryH599 with them, and deliverH5414 them to the enemyH341, soH5414 that they carry them awayH7617 captiveH7617 unto a landH776 farH7350 offH7350 or nearH7138; 37yet ifH834 they shall bethink themselves, in the landH776 whither they are carriedH7617 captiveH7617, and turnH7725 againH7725, and makeH7725 supplication unto thee in the landH776 of their captivityH7633, sayingH559, WeH834 have sinnedH2398, weH834 have doneH2398 perversely, and have dealt wickedlyH7561; 38ifH834 they returnH7725 unto thee with allH3605 their heartH3820 and with allH3605 their soulH5315 in the landH776 of their captivityH7633, whither they have carriedH7617 them captiveH7617, and prayH6419 towardH413 their landH776, whichH834 thou gavest unto their fathersH1, and the cityH5892 whichH834 thou hast chosenH977, and towardH413 the houseH1004 whichH834 I have builtH1129 for thy nameH8034: 39then hearH8085 thou from heavenH8064, evenH853 from thy dwellingH3427 placeH4349, their prayerH8605 and their supplicationsH8467, and maintain their causeH4941; and forgiveH5545 thy peopleH5971 whichH834 have sinnedH2398 againstH4480 thee. 40NowH6258, O my GodH430, letH4994, I beseechH4994 thee, thine eyesH5869 be openH6605, and letH4994 thine earsH241 be attent, unto the prayerH8605 that is madeH1961 in this placeH4725. 41NowH6258 therefore ariseH6965, O LORDH3068 GodH430, into thy resting place, thou, and the arkH727 of thy strengthH5797: letH8055 thy priestsH3548, O LORDH3068 GodH430, be clothedH3847 with salvationH8668, and letH8055 thy saints rejoiceH8055 in goodness. 42O LORDH3068 GodH430, turnH7725 notH408 awayH7725 the faceH6440 of thine anointedH4899: rememberH2142 the mercies of DavidH1732 thy servantH5650.
