2 Chronicles 18
Revised Version 1895
1NowH1961 JehoshaphatH3092 had richesH6239 and honour in abundanceH7230; and he joined affinity with AhabH256. 2And afterH7093 certainH834 yearsH8141 he wentH5927 downH3381 to AhabH256 to SamariaH8111. And AhabH256 killed sheepH6629 and oxenH1241 for him in abundanceH7230, and for the peopleH5971 that were with him, and movedH5496 him to goH5927 upH5927 with him to Ramoth-gileadH7433. 3And AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, Wilt thou go with meH413 to Ramoth-gileadH7433? And he answeredH559 him, I am as thou art, and my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971; and we will be with thee in the warH4421. 4And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478; InquireH1875, I prayH4994 thee, at the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 todayH3117. 5When the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 gatheredH6908 the prophetsH5030 togetherH6908, fourH702 hundredH3967 menH376, and saidH559 unto them, Shall weH518 goH5927 to Ramoth-gileadH7433 to battleH4421, or shall I forbear? And they saidH559, GoH5927 upH5927; for GodH430 shall deliverH5414 it intoH413 the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 6But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there notH369 hereH6311 besidesH5750 a prophetH5030 of the LORDH3068, that we might inquireH1875 of him? 7And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, There is yet one manH376 by whomH259 weH3588 may inquireH1875 of the LORDH3068: but I hateH8130 him; for he neverH369 prophesieth goodH2896 concerning meH413, but alwaysH3117 evilH7451: the sameH1931 is MicaiahH4321 the sonH1121 of ImlaH3229. And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, LetH408 notH369 the kingH4428 sayH559 soH3651. 8Then the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121 an officerH5631, and saidH559, Fetch quicklyH4116 MicaiahH559 the sonH1121 of ImlaH3229. 9Now the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 satH3427 eachH376 on his throneH3678, arrayedH3847 in their robesH899, and they satH3427 in an openH6440 placeH3605 at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 of SamariaH8111; and allH3605 the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 beforeH6440 them. 10And ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of ChenaanahH3668 madeH6213 him hornsH7161 of ironH1270, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, With theseH428 shalt thou pushH5055 the Syrians, untilH5704 they be consumedH3615. 11And allH3605 the prophetsH5030 prophesiedH5012 soH3651, sayingH559, GoH5927 upH5927 to Ramoth-gileadH7433, and prosperH6743: for the LORDH3068 shall deliverH5414 it intoH3027 the handH3027 of the kingH4428. 12And the messengerH4397 that wentH1980 to callH7121 MicaiahH4321 spake to him, sayingH559, BeholdH2009, the wordsH1697 of the prophetsH5030 declareH1696 goodH2896 to the kingH4428 with one mouthH6310: letH4994 thy wordH1697, therefore, I prayH4994 thee, be like one of theirsH1992, and speakH1696 thou goodH2896. 13And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, As the LORDH3068 liveth, whatH834 my GodH430 saith, that will I speakH1696. 14And when he was comeH935 to the kingH4428, the kingH4428 saidH559 unto him, MicaiahH559, shall weH518 goH935 to Ramoth-gileadH7433 to battleH4421, or shall I forbear? And he saidH559, GoH935 ye upH5927, and prosperH6743; and they shall be deliveredH5414 intoH413 your handH3027. 15And the kingH4428 saidH559 to him, HowH4100 manyH4100 timesH6471 shall I adjureH7650 thee that thou speakH1696 unto meH413 nothingH3808 but the truthH571 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068? 16And he saidH559, I sawH7200 allH3605 IsraelH3478 scatteredH6327 uponH5921 the mountainsH2022, as sheepH6629 that have noH3808 shepherdH7462: and the LORDH3068 saidH559, TheseH428 have noH3808 masterH113; letH3808 them returnH7725 everyH3605 manH376 to his houseH1004 in peaceH7965. 17And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 to JehoshaphatH3092, DidH3808 I notH3808 tellH559 thee that he would notH3808 prophesyH5012 goodH2896 concerning meH413, but evilH7451? 18And he saidH559, Therefore hearH8085 ye the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068: I sawH7200 the LORDH3068 sittingH3427 uponH5921 his throneH3678, and allH3605 the hostH6635 of heavenH8064 standingH5975 on his rightH3225 handH3225 and on his leftH8040. 19And the LORDH3068 saidH559, Who shall entice AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that he may goH5927 upH5927 and fallH5307 at Ramoth-gileadH7433? And one spake sayingH559 after this mannerH3602, and anotherH2088 sayingH559 after that mannerH3602. 20And there cameH3318 forthH3318 a spiritH7307, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and saidH559, I will entice him. And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto him, Wherewith? 21And he saidH559, I will goH3318 forthH3318, and will be a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of allH3605 his prophetsH5030. And he saidH559, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevailH3201 also: goH3318 forthH3318, and doH6213 soH3651. 22NowH6258 therefore, beholdH2009, the LORDH3068 hath putH5414 a lyingH8267 spiritH7307 in the mouthH6310 of theseH428 thy prophetsH5030; and the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 evilH7451 concerning thee. 23Then ZedekiahH6667 the sonH1121 of ChenaanahH3668 cameH5066 nearH5066, and smoteH5221 MicaiahH4321 uponH5921 the cheekH3895, and saidH559, WhichH2088 wayH1870 wentH5066 the spiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 from meH5921 to speakH1696 unto thee? 24And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, BeholdH2005, thou shalt seeH7200 on that dayH3117, when thou shalt goH935 intoH935 an innerH2315 chamberH2315 to hideH2244 thyself. 25And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, TakeH3947 ye MicaiahH4321, and carryH3947 him backH7725 unto AmonH526 the governorH8269 of the cityH5892, and to JoashH3101 the king’sH4428 sonH1121; 26and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith the kingH4428, PutH7760 this fellow in the prisonH3608, and feedH398 him with breadH3899 of affliction and with waterH4325 of affliction, untilH5704 I returnH7725 in peaceH7965. 27And MicaiahH4321 saidH559, IfH518 thou returnH7725 at allH3605 in peaceH7965, the LORDH3068 hath notH3808 spokenH1696 by meH7725. And he saidH559, HearH8085, ye peoplesH5971, allH3605 of youH518. 28SoH5927 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 wentH5927 upH5927 to Ramoth-gileadH7433. 29And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto JehoshaphatH3092, I will disguiseH2664 myself, and goH935 intoH413 the battleH4421; but putH3847 thou on thy robesH899. SoH935 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 disguisedH2664 himselfH413; and they wentH935 intoH413 the battleH4421. 30NowH3588 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 had commandedH6680 the captainsH8269 of his chariotsH7393, sayingH559, FightH3898 neitherH3808 with smallH6996 norH3808 greatH1419, save onlyH905 with the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 31And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 JehoshaphatH3092, that they saidH559, It is the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. Therefore they turnedH5437 aboutH1961 to fightH3898 againstH5921 him: but JehoshaphatH3092 criedH2199 outH4480, and the LORDH3068 helpedH5826 him; and GodH430 movedH5496 them to depart from him. 32And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the captainsH8269 of the chariotsH7393 sawH7200 that it was notH3808 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that they turnedH7725 backH7725 from pursuingH310 him. 33And a certainH376 manH376 drewH4900 his bowH7198 at a venture, and smoteH5221 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 betweenH996 the joints of the harness: wherefore he saidH559 to the driverH7395 of the chariotH7395, TurnH2015 thine handH3027, and carryH3318 meH4480 outH3318 of the hostH4264; for I am sore woundedH5221. 34And the battleH4421 increased that dayH3117: howbeit the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 stayedH5975 himselfH1931 upH5927 in his chariotH4818 againstH4421 the Syrians untilH5704 the evenH5704: and aboutH1961 the time of the goingH935 downH6256 of the sunH8121 he diedH4191.
