In his daysבְּיָמָ֛יוbe.ya.MavH3117the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776was quietשָׁקְטָ֥הsha.ke.TahH8252tenעֶ֥שֶׂר'E.serH6235yearsשָׁנִֽים׃ פsha.NimH8141.

2And Asaאָסָא֙'a.Sa'H609didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213that which wasgoodהַטּ֣וֹבha.TovH2896and rightוְהַיָּשָׁ֔רve.hai.ya.SharH3477in the eyesבְּעֵינֵ֖יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of Yhwhיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָֽיו׃'e.lo.HavH430:

3For he took awayוַיָּ֛סַרvai.Ya.sarH5493the altarsמִזְבְּח֥וֹתmiz.be.ChotH4196of the strangeהַנֵּכָ֖רha.ne.KharH5236gods,and the high placesוְהַבָּמ֑וֹתve.ha.ba.MotH1116,and brake downוַיְשַׁבֵּר֙vay.sha.BerH7665the imagesהַמַּצֵּב֔וֹתha.ma.tze.VotH4676,and cut downוַיְגַדַּ֖עvay.ga.Da'H1438the grovesהָאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃ha.'a.she.RimH842:

4And commandedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559JudahH3063to seekלִדְר֕וֹשׁlid.Ro.oshH1875Yhwhיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1,and to doוְלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתve.la.'a.SotH6213the lawהַתּוֹרָ֥הha.to.RahH8451and the commandmentוְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃ve.ha.mitz.VahH4687.

5Also he took awayוַיָּ֙סַר֙vai.Ya.sarH5493out of all the citiesH5892of JudahH3063the high placesהַבָּמ֖וֹתha.ba.MotH1116and the imagesהַֽחַמָּנִ֑יםha.cha.ma.NimH2553:and the kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָ֖הha.mam.la.KhahH4467was quietH8252beforeלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440him.

6And he builtH1129fencedמְצוּרָ֖הme.tzu.RahH4694citiesH5892in JudahH3063:for the landH776had restשָׁקְטָ֣הsha.ke.TahH8252,and he had no warמִלְחָמָה֙mil.cha.MahH4421in those yearsבַּשָּׁנִ֣יםba.sha.NimH8141;because YhwhH3068had given him restH5117.

7Therefore he saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto JudahH3063,Let us buildנִבְנֶ֣ה׀niv.NehH1129these citiesהֶעָרִ֣יםhe.'a.RimH5892,and make aboutוְנָסֵ֨בve.na.SevH5437themwallsחוֹמָ֣הcho.MahH2346,and towersוּמִגְדָּלִים֮u.mig.da.LimH4026,gatesדְּלָתַ֣יִםde.la.Ta.yimH1817,and barsוּבְרִיחִים֒u.ve.ri.ChimH1280, whilethe landהָאָ֜רֶץha.'A.retzH776isyet beforeלְפָנֵ֗ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us; because we have soughtדָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙da.Rash.nuH1875Yhwhיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430,we have soughtדָּרַ֕שְׁנוּda.Rash.nuH1875him,and he hath given us restוַיָּ֥נַֽחvai.Ya.nachH5117on every sideמִסָּבִ֑יבmi.sa.VivH5439.So they builtוַיִּבְנ֖וּvai.yiv.NuH1129and prosperedוַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ פvai.yatz.Li.chuH6743.

8And Asaלְאָסָ֗אle.'a.Sa'H609had an armyH2428of menthat bareנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375targetsצִנָּ֣הtzi.NahH6793and spearsוָרֹמַח֒va.ro.MachH7420,out of Judahמִֽיהוּדָה֙mi.hu.DahH3063threeH7969hundredH3967thousandH505;and out of Benjaminוּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ןu.mi.bin.ya.MinH1144,that bareנֹשְׂאֵ֤יno.se.'EiH5375shieldsמָגֵן֙ma.GenH4043and drewוְדֹ֣רְכֵיve.Do.re.kheiH1869bowsקֶ֔שֶׁתKe.shetH7198,two hundredH3967and fourscoreוּשְׁמוֹנִ֖יםu.she.mo.NimH8084thousandH505: all these weremighty menגִּבּ֥וֹרֵיgi.Bo.reiH1368of valourH2428.

9And there came outH3318against them Zerahזֶ֣רַחZe.rachH2226the Ethiopianהַכּוּשִׁ֗יha.ku.ShiH3569with an armyבְּחַ֙יִל֙be.Cha.yilH2428of a thousandאֶ֣לֶף'E.lefH505thousandאֲלָפִ֔ים'a.la.FimH505,and threeשְׁלֹ֣שׁshe.LoshH7969hundredמֵא֑וֹתme.'otH3967chariotsוּמַרְכָּב֖וֹתu.mar.ka.VotH4818;and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935unto MareshahH4762.

10Then AsaH609went outוַיֵּצֵ֥אvai.ye.Tze'H3318againstלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440him, and they set the battleמִלְחָמָ֔הmil.cha.MahH4421in arrayוַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙vai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186in the valleyבְּגֵ֥יאbe.Gei'H1516of Zephathahצְפַ֖תָהtze.Fa.tahH6859at Mareshahלְמָרֵשָֽׁה׃le.ma.re.ShahH4762.

11And AsaH609criedוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121unto YhwhH3068his Godאֱלֹהָיו֮'e.lo.HavH430,and saidוַיֹּאמַר֒vai.yo.MarH559,YhwhH3068, it isnothing with thee to helpלַעְזוֹר֙la'.zOrH5826,whetherבֵּ֥יןbeinH996with manyרַב֙ravH7227,or with them that have no powerכֹּ֔חַKo.achH3581:helpעָזְרֵ֜נוּ'a.ze.Re.nuH5826us, O YhwhH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;for we restנִשְׁעַ֔נּוּnish.'A.nuH8172on thee, and in thy nameוּבְשִׁמְךָ֣u.ve.shim.KhaH8034we goבָ֔אנוּVa.nuH935against this multitudeהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995.O YhwhH3068, thou artour Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;let not manאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ ס'e.No.oshH582prevailיַעְצֹ֥רya'.TzorH6113against thee.

12So YhwhH3068smoteוַיִּגֹּ֤ףvai.yi.GofH5062the EthiopiansH3569beforeH6440AsaH609,and beforeH6440Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063;and the EthiopiansH3569fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127.

13And Asaאָסָ֜א'a.Sa'H609and the peopleוְהָעָ֣םve.ha.'AmH5971that werewith him pursuedוַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨םvai.yir.de.FemH7291them unto GerarH1642:and the Ethiopiansמִכּוּשִׁים֙mi.ku.ShimH3569were overthrownוַיִּפֹּ֤לvai.yi.PolH5307,that they could not recoverמִֽחְיָ֔הmich.YahH4241themselves; for they were destroyedנִשְׁבְּר֥וּnish.be.RuH7665beforeלִפְנֵֽי־lif.nei-H6440YhwhH3068,and beforeוְלִפְנֵ֣יve.lif.NeiH6440his armyמַחֲנֵ֑הוּma.cha.Ne.huH4264;and they carried awayוַיִּשְׂא֥וּvai.yis.'UH5375veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966muchהַרְבֵּ֥הhar.BehH7235spoilשָׁלָ֖לsha.LalH7998.

14And they smoteH5221all the citiesהֶֽעָרִים֙he.'a.RimH5892round aboutסְבִיב֣וֹתse.vi.VotH5439Gerarגְּרָ֔רge.RarH1642;for the fearפַֽחַד־fa.chad-H6343of Yhwhיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068came upon them: and they spoiledוַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.zuH962all the citiesהֶ֣עָרִ֔יםhe.'a.RimH5892;for there was exceeding muchרַבָּ֖הra.BahH7227spoilבִזָּ֥הvi.ZahH961in them.

15They smoteהִכּ֑וּhi.KuH5221also the tentsאָהֳלֵ֥י'o.ho.LeiH168of cattleמִקְנֶ֖הmik.NehH4735,and carried awayוַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּvai.yish.BuH7617sheepצֹ֤אןtzonH6629and camelsוּגְמַלִּ֔יםu.ge.ma.LimH1581in abundanceלָרֹב֙la.RoH7230,and returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ סye.ru.sha.LimH3389.
