1So Abijahאֲבִיָּ֜ה'a.vi.YahH29layH7901downוַיִּשְׁכַּ֨בvai.yish.KavH7901with his fathersאֲבֹתָ֗יו'a.vo.TavH1,and they buriedוַיִּקְבְּר֤וּvai.yik.be.RuH6912him in the cityבְּעִ֣ירbe.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732,and his sonבְנ֖וֹve.NoH1121AsaH609becameH4427kingוַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427inH8478his placeתַּחְתָּ֑יוtach.TavH8478.The landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776wasH8252undisturbedH8252for tenעֶ֥שֶׂר'E.serH6235yearsשָׁנִֽים׃ פsha.NimH8141during his daysבְּיָמָ֛יוbe.ya.MavH3117.

2And Asaאָסָא֙'a.Sa'H609didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213what wasgoodהַטּ֣וֹבha.TovH2896and rightוְהַיָּשָׁ֔רve.hai.ya.SharH3477in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֖יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָֽיו׃'e.lo.HavH430,

3for he removedוַיָּ֛סַרvai.Ya.sarH5493the foreignהַנֵּכָ֖רha.ne.KharH5236altarsמִזְבְּח֥וֹתmiz.be.ChotH4196andhighוְהַבָּמ֑וֹתve.ha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116,toreH7665downH7665the memorialH4676stonesH4676,cutוַיְגַדַּ֖עvay.ga.Da'H1438downH1438theAsherimהָאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃ha.'a.she.RimH842,

4and commandedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559JudahH3063to seekלִדְר֕וֹשׁlid.Ro.oshH1875the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1and tocomplyH6213withH6213the Lawהַתּוֹרָ֥הha.to.RahH8451and the commandmentוְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃ve.ha.mitz.VahH4687.

5He also removedוַיָּ֙סַר֙vai.Ya.sarH5493the highהַבָּמ֖וֹתha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116and theincenseהַֽחַמָּנִ֑יםha.cha.ma.NimH2553altarsH2553from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605the citiesH5892of JudahH3063.And the kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָ֖הha.mam.la.KhahH4467wasשָׁקְטָ֣הsha.ke.TahH8252undisturbedוַתִּשְׁקֹ֥טva.tish.KotH8252underלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440him.

6He builtH1129fortifiedמְצוּרָ֖הme.tzu.RahH4694citiesH5892in JudahH3063,sinceH3588the landH776wasH8252undisturbedH8252, andthereH369wasH369noH369oneH369at warמִלְחָמָה֙mil.cha.MahH4421with him during thoseH428yearsבַּשָּׁנִ֣יםba.sha.NimH8141,becauseH3588the LordH3068had givenהֵנִ֥יחַhe.Ni.achH5117him restוַיָּ֥נַֽחvai.Ya.nachH5117.

7For he saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to JudahH3063, “Let’s buildנִבְנֶ֣ה׀niv.NehH1129theseH428citiesהֶעָרִ֣יםhe.'a.RimH5892and surroundוְנָסֵ֨בve.na.SevH5437themwith wallsחוֹמָ֣הcho.MahH2346and towersוּמִגְדָּלִים֮u.mig.da.LimH4026,gatesדְּלָתַ֣יִםde.la.Ta.yimH1817and barsוּבְרִיחִים֒u.ve.ri.ChimH1280.The landהָאָ֜רֶץha.'A.retzH776is stillעוֹדֶ֨נּוּo.De.nuH5750oursלְפָנֵ֗ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588we have soughtדָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙da.Rash.nuH1875the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;we have soughtדָּרַ֕שְׁנוּda.Rash.nuH1875Him, and He has givenH5117us restוַיָּ֥נַֽחvai.Ya.nachH5117on everyH5439sideH5439.”So they builtוַיִּבְנ֖וּvai.yiv.NuH1129and prosperedוַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ פvai.yatz.Li.chuH6743.

8Now Asaלְאָסָ֗אle.'a.Sa'H609hadוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961an armyH2428ofthreeH7969hundredH3967thousandH505from Judahמִֽיהוּדָה֙mi.hu.DahH3063,carryingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375largeH6793shieldsצִנָּ֣הtzi.NahH6793and spearsוָרֹמַח֒va.ro.MachH7420,and 280,000וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖יםu.she.mo.NimH3967 H8084 H505from Benjaminוּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ןu.mi.bin.ya.MinH1144,carryingנֹשְׂאֵ֤יno.se.'EiH5375shieldsמָגֵן֙ma.GenH4043and wieldingוְדֹ֣רְכֵיve.Do.re.kheiH1869bowsקֶ֔שֶׁתKe.shetH7198;allכָּל־kol-H3605of them were valiantH2428warriorsגִּבּ֥וֹרֵיgi.Bo.reiH1368.

9Now Zerahזֶ֣רַחZe.rachH2226the Ethiopianהַכּוּשִׁ֗יha.ku.ShiH3569wentוַיֵּצֵ֨אvai.ye.Tze'H3318outוַיֵּצֵ֥אvai.ye.Tze'H3318againstאֲלֵיהֶ֜ם'a.lei.HemH413them with an armyבְּחַ֙יִל֙be.Cha.yilH2428of a millionH505men and threeשְׁלֹ֣שׁshe.LoshH7969hundredמֵא֑וֹתme.'otH3967chariotsוּמַרְכָּב֖וֹתu.mar.ka.VotH4818,and he cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935toMareshahH4762.

10So AsaH609wentH3318outH3318to meetלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440him, and they drewH6186upH6186in battleמִלְחָמָ֔הmil.cha.MahH4421formationוַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙vai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186in the Valleyבְּגֵ֥יאbe.Gei'H1516of Zephathahצְפַ֖תָהtze.Fa.tahH6859at Mareshahלְמָרֵשָֽׁה׃le.ma.re.ShahH4762.

11Then AsaH609calledוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the LordH3068his Godאֱלֹהָיו֮'e.lo.HavH430and saidוַיֹּאמַר֒vai.yo.MarH559, “LordH3068,thereH369isH369noH369oneH369besidesעִמְּךָ֤'i.me.KhaH5973You to helpלַעְזוֹר֙la'.zOrH5826in the battlebetweenבֵּ֥יןbeinH996the powerfulרַב֙ravH7227and those who haveH369noH369strengthכֹּ֔חַKo.achH3581;helpעָזְרֵ֜נוּ'a.ze.Re.nuH5826us, LordH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430,for we trustנִשְׁעַ֔נּוּnish.'A.nuH8172in You, and in Your nameוּבְשִׁמְךָ֣u.ve.shim.KhaH8034have comeבָ֔אנוּVa.nuH935againstH5921thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088multitudeהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995. LordH3068,You are our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;do not let manאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ ס'e.No.oshH582prevailיַעְצֹ֥רya'.TzorH6113againstעִמְּךָ֖'i.me.KhaH5973You.”

12Sothe LordH3068routedוַיִּגֹּ֤ףvai.yi.GofH5062the EthiopiansH3569beforeH6440AsaH609and beforeH6440Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063,and the EthiopiansH3569fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127.

13Asaאָסָ֜א'a.Sa'H609and the peopleוְהָעָ֣םve.ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834werewith him pursuedוַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨םvai.yir.de.FemH7291them as farעַד־'ad-H5704asGerarH1642;and so many Ethiopiansמִכּוּשִׁים֙mi.ku.ShimH3569fellוַיִּפֹּ֤לvai.yi.PolH5307thatthey could not recoverמִֽחְיָ֔הmich.YahH4241,for they were shatteredנִשְׁבְּר֥וּnish.be.RuH7665beforeלִפְנֵֽי־lif.nei-H6440the LordH3068and beforeוְלִפְנֵ֣יve.lif.NeiH6440His armyמַחֲנֵ֑הוּma.cha.Ne.huH4264.And they carriedוַיִּשְׂא֥וּvai.yis.'UH5375away a veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966largeהַרְבֵּ֥הhar.BehH7235amount ofplunderשָׁלָ֖לsha.LalH7998.

14TheydestroyedH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶֽעָרִים֙he.'a.RimH5892aroundסְבִיב֣וֹתse.vi.VotH5439Gerarגְּרָ֔רge.RarH1642,for the dreadפַֽחַד־fa.chad-H6343of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had fallenH1961on them; and they pillagedוַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.zuH962allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶ֣עָרִ֔יםhe.'a.RimH5892,for there was muchרַבָּ֖הra.BahH7227plunderבִזָּ֥הvi.ZahH961in them.

15They alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571fatallyH5221struckH5221those who ownedאָהֳלֵ֥י'o.ho.LeiH168livestockמִקְנֶ֖הmik.NehH4735,and they ledH7617awayH7617largeH7230numbersH7230of sheepצֹ֤אןtzonH6629and camelsוּגְמַלִּ֔יםu.ge.ma.LimH1581.Then they returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ סye.ru.sha.LimH3389.
