1So Abijahאֲבִיָּ֜ה'a.vi.YahH29sleptוַיִּשְׁכַּ֨בvai.yish.KavH7901with his fathersאֲבֹתָ֗יו'a.vo.TavH1,and they buriedוַיִּקְבְּר֤וּvai.yik.be.RuH6912him in the cityבְּעִ֣ירbe.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732,and his sonבְנ֖וֹve.NoH1121AsaH609becameH4427kingוַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427in his placeתַּחְתָּ֑יוtach.TavH8478.The landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776was undisturbedשָׁקְטָ֥הsha.ke.TahH8252for tenעֶ֥שֶׂר'E.serH6235yearsשָׁנִֽים׃ פsha.NimH8141during his daysבְּיָמָ֛יוbe.ya.MavH3117.
3for he removedוַיָּ֛סַרvai.Ya.sarH5493the foreignהַנֵּכָ֖רha.ne.KharH5236altarsמִזְבְּח֥וֹתmiz.be.ChotH4196andhighוְהַבָּמ֑וֹתve.ha.ba.MotH1116placesH1116,toreH7665downH7665the sacredpillarsהַמַּצֵּב֔וֹתha.ma.tze.VotH4676,cutוַיְגַדַּ֖עvay.ga.Da'H1438downH1438theAsherimהָאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃ha.'a.she.RimH842,
4and commandedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559JudahH3063to seekלִדְר֕וֹשׁlid.Ro.oshH1875the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1and to observeוְלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתve.la.'a.SotH6213the lawהַתּוֹרָ֥הha.to.RahH8451and the commandmentוְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃ve.ha.mitz.VahH4687.
6He builtH1129fortifiedמְצוּרָ֖הme.tzu.RahH4694citiesH5892in JudahH3063,sinceH3588the landH776was undisturbedשָׁקְטָ֣הsha.ke.TahH8252, andthereH369was noH369oneH369at warמִלְחָמָה֙mil.cha.MahH4421with him during thoseH428yearsבַּשָּׁנִ֣יםba.sha.NimH8141,becauseH3588the LordH3068had givenהֵנִ֥יחַhe.Ni.achH5117him restוַיָּ֥נַֽחvai.Ya.nachH5117.
7For he saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to JudahH3063, “Let us buildנִבְנֶ֣ה׀niv.NehH1129theseH428citiesהֶעָרִ֣יםhe.'a.RimH5892and surroundוְנָסֵ֨בve.na.SevH5437themwith wallsחוֹמָ֣הcho.MahH2346and towersוּמִגְדָּלִים֮u.mig.da.LimH4026,gatesדְּלָתַ֣יִםde.la.Ta.yimH1817and barsוּבְרִיחִים֒u.ve.ri.ChimH1280.The landהָאָ֜רֶץha.'A.retzH776is stillעוֹדֶ֨נּוּo.De.nuH5750oursלְפָנֵ֗ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588we have soughtדָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙da.Rash.nuH1875the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;we have soughtדָּרַ֕שְׁנוּda.Rash.nuH1875Him, and He has givenH5117us restוַיָּ֥נַֽחvai.Ya.nachH5117on everyH5439sideH5439.”So they builtוַיִּבְנ֖וּvai.yiv.NuH1129and prosperedוַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ פvai.yatz.Li.chuH6743.
8Now Asaלְאָסָ֗אle.'a.Sa'H609hadוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961an armyH2428of300,000H7969H3967H505from Judahמִֽיהוּדָה֙mi.hu.DahH3063,bearingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375largeH6793shieldsצִנָּ֣הtzi.NahH6793and spearsוָרֹמַח֒va.ro.MachH7420,and 280,000וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖יםu.she.mo.NimH3967H8084H505from Benjaminוּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ןu.mi.bin.ya.MinH1144,bearingנֹשְׂאֵ֤יno.se.'EiH5375shieldsמָגֵן֙ma.GenH4043and wieldingוְדֹ֣רְכֵיve.Do.re.kheiH1869bowsקֶ֔שֶׁתKe.shetH7198;allכָּל־kol-H3605of them were valiantH2428warriorsגִּבּ֥וֹרֵיgi.Bo.reiH1368.
9Now Zerahזֶ֣רַחZe.rachH2226the Ethiopianהַכּוּשִׁ֗יha.ku.ShiH3569cameH3318out againstאֲלֵיהֶ֜ם'a.lei.HemH413them with an armyבְּחַ֙יִל֙be.Cha.yilH2428of a millionH505men and 300שְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֑וֹתshe.Losh me.'otH7969H3967chariotsוּמַרְכָּב֖וֹתu.mar.ka.VotH4818,and he cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935toMareshahH4762.
11Then AsaH609calledוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the LordH3068his Godאֱלֹהָיו֮'e.lo.HavH430and saidוַיֹּאמַר֒vai.yo.MarH559, “LordH3068,thereH369is noH369oneH369besidesעִמְּךָ֤'i.me.KhaH5973You to helpלַעְזוֹר֙la'.zOrH5826in the battlebetweenבֵּ֥יןbeinH996the powerfulרַב֙ravH7227and those who haveH369noH369strengthכֹּ֔חַKo.achH3581;so helpעָזְרֵ֜נוּ'a.ze.Re.nuH5826us, O LordH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430,for we trustנִשְׁעַ֔נּוּnish.'A.nuH8172in You, and in Your nameוּבְשִׁמְךָ֣u.ve.shim.KhaH8034have comeבָ֔אנוּVa.nuH935againstH5921thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088multitudeהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995. O LordH3068,You are our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430;let not manאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ ס'e.No.oshH582prevailיַעְצֹ֥רya'.TzorH6113againstעִמְּךָ֖'i.me.KhaH5973You.”
13Asaאָסָ֜א'a.Sa'H609and the peopleוְהָעָ֣םve.ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834werewith him pursuedוַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨םvai.yir.de.FemH7291them as farעַד־'ad-H5704asGerarH1642;and so many Ethiopiansמִכּוּשִׁים֙mi.ku.ShimH3569fellוַיִּפֹּ֤לvai.yi.PolH5307thatthey could not recoverמִֽחְיָ֔הmich.YahH4241,for they were shatteredנִשְׁבְּר֥וּnish.be.RuH7665beforeלִפְנֵֽי־lif.nei-H6440the LordH3068and beforeוְלִפְנֵ֣יve.lif.NeiH6440His armyמַחֲנֵ֑הוּma.cha.Ne.huH4264.And they carriedוַיִּשְׂא֥וּvai.yis.'UH5375away veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966muchהַרְבֵּ֥הhar.BehH7235plunderשָׁלָ֖לsha.LalH7998.
14TheydestroyedH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶֽעָרִים֙he.'a.RimH5892aroundסְבִיב֣וֹתse.vi.VotH5439Gerarגְּרָ֔רge.RarH1642,for the dreadפַֽחַד־fa.chad-H6343of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had fallenH1961on them; and they despoiledוַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.zuH962allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶ֣עָרִ֔יםhe.'a.RimH5892,for there was muchרַבָּ֖הra.BahH7227plunderבִזָּ֥הvi.ZahH961in them.
15They alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571struckH5221downH5221those who ownedאָהֳלֵ֥י'o.ho.LeiH168livestockמִקְנֶ֖הmik.NehH4735,and they carriedוַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּvai.yish.BuH7617away largeH7230numbersH7230of sheepצֹ֤אןtzonH6629and camelsוּגְמַלִּ֔יםu.ge.ma.LimH1581.Then they returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ סye.ru.sha.LimH3389.
