1Then Abijahאֲבִיָּ֜ה'a.vi.YahH29restedוַיִּשְׁכַּ֨בvai.yish.KavH7901withעִם־'im-H5973his fathersאֲבֹתָ֗יו'a.vo.TavH1and was buriedוַיִּקְבְּר֤וּvai.yik.be.RuH6912אֹתוֹ֙'o.ToH853in the Cityבְּעִ֣ירbe.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732.And his sonבְנ֖וֹve.NoH1121AsaH609reignedוַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427in his placeתַּחְתָּ֑יוtach.TavH8478,and in his daysבְּיָמָ֛יוbe.ya.MavH3117the landהָאָ֖רֶץha.'A.retzH776was at peaceשָׁקְטָ֥הsha.ke.TahH8252fortenעֶ֥שֶׂר'E.serH6235yearsשָׁנִֽים׃ פsha.NimH8141.

2And Asaאָסָא֙'a.Sa'H609didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213what was goodהַטּ֣וֹבha.TovH2896and rightוְהַיָּשָׁ֔רve.hai.ya.SharH3477in the eyesבְּעֵינֵ֖יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the LORDיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָֽיו׃'e.lo.HavH430.

3He removedוַיָּ֛סַרvai.Ya.sarH5493H853the foreignהַנֵּכָ֖רha.ne.KharH5236altarsמִזְבְּח֥וֹתmiz.be.ChotH4196and high placesוְהַבָּמ֑וֹתve.ha.ba.MotH1116,shatteredוַיְשַׁבֵּר֙vay.sha.BerH7665H853the sacred pillarsהַמַּצֵּב֔וֹתha.ma.tze.VotH4676,and chopped downוַיְגַדַּ֖עvay.ga.Da'H1438H853the Asherah polesהָאֲשֵׁרִֽים׃ha.'a.she.RimH842.

4He commandedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559the people of JudahH3063to seekלִדְר֕וֹשׁlid.Ro.oshH1875H853the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1,and to observeוְלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתve.la.'a.SotH6213the lawהַתּוֹרָ֥הha.to.RahH8451and the commandmentsוְהַמִּצְוָֽה׃ve.ha.mitz.VahH4687.

5He also removedוַיָּ֙סַר֙vai.Ya.sarH5493the high placesהַבָּמ֖וֹתha.ba.MotH1116אֶת־'et-H853and incense altarsהַֽחַמָּנִ֑יםha.cha.ma.NimH2553from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605the citiesH5892of JudahH3063וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853,and under himלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440the kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָ֖הha.mam.la.KhahH4467was at peaceH8252.

6BecauseH3588the landH776was at peaceשָׁקְטָ֣הsha.ke.TahH8252,Asa builtH1129fortifiedמְצוּרָ֖הme.tzu.RahH4694citiesH5892in JudahH3063.In thoseH428daysבַּשָּׁנִ֣יםba.sha.NimH8141no oneוְאֵין־ve.'ein-H369made warמִלְחָמָה֙mil.cha.MahH4421with himעִמּ֤וֹi.MoH5973,becauseH3588the LORDH3068had given him restH5117.

7So he saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the people of JudahH3063, “Let us buildנִבְנֶ֣ה׀niv.NehH1129אֶת־'et-H853theseH428citiesהֶעָרִ֣יםhe.'a.RimH5892and surround themוְנָסֵ֨בve.na.SevH5437with wallsחוֹמָ֣הcho.MahH2346and towersוּמִגְדָּלִים֮u.mig.da.LimH4026,with doorsדְּלָתַ֣יִםde.la.Ta.yimH1817and barsוּבְרִיחִים֒u.ve.ri.ChimH1280.The landהָאָ֜רֶץha.'A.retzH776is stillעוֹדֶ֨נּוּo.De.nuH5750oursלְפָנֵ֗ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588we have soughtדָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙da.Rash.nuH1875אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430.We have soughtדָּרַ֕שְׁנוּda.Rash.nuH1875Him,and He has given us restוַיָּ֥נַֽחvai.Ya.nachH5117onevery sideמִסָּבִ֑יבmi.sa.VivH5439.”So they builtוַיִּבְנ֖וּvai.yiv.NuH1129and prosperedוַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃ פvai.yatz.Li.chuH6743.

8Asaלְאָסָ֗אle.'a.Sa'H609hadוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961an armyH2428of 300,000 menH7969 H3967 H505from Judahמִֽיהוּדָה֙mi.hu.DahH3063bearingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375large shieldsצִנָּ֣הtzi.NahH6793and spearsוָרֹמַח֒va.ro.MachH7420,and 280,000 menוּשְׁמוֹנִ֖יםu.she.mo.NimH3967 H8084 H505from Benjaminוּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ןu.mi.bin.ya.MinH1144bearingנֹשְׂאֵ֤יno.se.'EiH5375small shieldsמָגֵן֙ma.GenH4043and drawingוְדֹ֣רְכֵיve.Do.re.kheiH1869the bowקֶ֔שֶׁתKe.shetH7198.Allכָּל־kol-H3605theseאֵ֖לֶּה'E.lehH428weremighty menגִּבּ֥וֹרֵיgi.Bo.reiH1368of valorH2428.

9Then Zerahזֶ֣רַחZe.rachH2226the Cushiteהַכּוּשִׁ֗יha.ku.ShiH3569cameH3318against themאֲלֵיהֶ֜ם'a.lei.HemH413with an armyבְּחַ֙יִל֙be.Cha.yilH2428of 1,000,000 menH505and300שְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֑וֹתshe.Losh me.'otH7969 H3967chariotsוּמַרְכָּב֖וֹתu.mar.ka.VotH4818,and they advancedוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935as far asעַד־'ad-H5704MareshahH4762.

10So AsaH609marched outוַיֵּצֵ֥אvai.ye.Tze'H3318against himלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440and lined upוַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙vai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186in battle formationמִלְחָמָ֔הmil.cha.MahH4421in the Valleyבְּגֵ֥יאbe.Gei'H1516of Zephathahצְפַ֖תָהtze.Fa.tahH6859near Mareshahלְמָרֵשָֽׁה׃le.ma.re.ShahH4762.

11Then AsaH609cried outוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121toאֶל־'el-H413the LORDH3068his Godאֱלֹהָיו֮ וַיֹּאמַר֒'e.lo.Hav vai.yo.MarH430 H559: “O LORDH3068,there is no oneאֵֽין־'ein-H369besides Youעִמְּךָ֤'i.me.KhaH5973to helpלַעְזוֹר֙ בֵּ֥יןla'.zOr beinH5826 H996the powerlessלְאֵ֣ין כֹּ֔חַle.'Ein Ko.achH369 H3581against the mightyרַב֙ravH7227.Help usעָזְרֵ֜נוּ'a.ze.Re.nuH5826,O LORDH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588we relyנִשְׁעַ֔נּוּnish.'A.nuH8172on Youעָלֶ֣יךָ'a.Lei.khaH5921,and in Your nameוּבְשִׁמְךָ֣u.ve.shim.KhaH8034we have comeבָ֔אנוּVa.nuH935againstעַל־'al-H5921thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088multitudeהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995.O LORDH3068,Youאַ֔תָּה'A.tahH859are our Godאֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙'e.lo.Hei.nuH430.Do notאַל־'al-H408let a mere mortalאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃ ס'e.No.oshH582prevailיַעְצֹ֥רya'.TzorH6113against Youעִמְּךָ֖'i.me.KhaH5973.”

12So the LORDH3068struck downוַיִּגֹּ֤ףvai.yi.GofH5062אֶת־'et-H853the CushitesH3569beforeH6440AsaH609andH6440Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063,and the CushitesH3569fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127.

13Then Asaאָסָ֜א'a.Sa'H609and his armyוְהָעָ֣םve.ha.'AmH5971אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834עִמּוֹ֮i.MoH5973pursued themוַיִּרְדְּפֵ֨םvai.yir.de.FemH7291as far asעַד־'ad-H5704GerarH1642.The Cushitesמִכּוּשִׁים֙mi.ku.ShimH3569fellוַיִּפֹּ֤לvai.yi.PolH5307and could notלְאֵ֣יןle.'EinH369recoverמִֽחְיָ֔הmich.YahH4241,forH3588they were crushedנִשְׁבְּר֥וּnish.be.RuH7665beforeלִפְנֵֽי־lif.nei-H6440the LORDוְלִפְנֵ֣יve.lif.NeiH3068 H6440and His armyמַחֲנֵ֑הוּma.cha.Ne.huH4264.So the people of Judah carried offוַיִּשְׂא֥וּvai.yis.'UH5375a great amount ofהַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃har.Beh me.'OdH7235 H3966plunderשָׁלָ֖לsha.LalH7998

14and attackedH5221אֵ֤ת'etH853allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶֽעָרִים֙he.'a.RimH5892aroundסְבִיב֣וֹתse.vi.VotH5439Gerarגְּרָ֔רge.RarH1642,becauseכִּי־ki-H3588the terrorפַֽחַד־fa.chad-H6343of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had fallenהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961upon themעֲלֵיהֶ֑ם'a.lei.HemH5921.They plunderedוַיָּבֹ֙זּוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.zuH962אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesהֶ֣עָרִ֔יםhe.'a.RimH5892,sinceכִּֽי־ki-H3588there wasהָיְתָ֥הha.ye.TahH1961muchרַבָּ֖הra.BahH7227plunderבִזָּ֥הvi.ZahH961there.

15They alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571attackedהִכּ֑וּhi.KuH5221the tentsאָהֳלֵ֥י'o.ho.LeiH168of the herdsmenמִקְנֶ֖הmik.NehH4735and carried offוַיִּשְׁבּ֨וּvai.yish.BuH7617manyלָרֹב֙la.RoH7230sheepצֹ֤אןtzonH6629and camelsוּגְמַלִּ֔יםu.ge.ma.LimH1581.Then they returnedוַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ סye.ru.sha.LimH3389.
