1Now the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971becameוַיְהִ֤יvay.HiH1961likethose who complainכְּמִתְאֹ֣נְנִ֔יםke.mit.'O.ne.NimH596of adversityרַ֖עra'H7451in the earsבְּאָזְנֵ֣יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;and the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֤עvai.yish.Ma'H8085themand His angerאַפּ֔וֹ'a.PoH639was kindledוַיִּ֣חַרvai.Yi.charH2734,and the fireאֵ֣שׁ'eshH784of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068burnedוַתִּבְעַר־va.tiv.'ar-H1197among them and consumedוַתֹּ֖אכַלva.To.khalH398someat the outskirtsבִּקְצֵ֥הbik.TzehH7097of the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ha.ma.cha.NehH4264.
4Now therabbleוְהָֽאסַפְסֻף֙ve.ha.saf.SufH628whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834were amongבְּקִרְבּ֔וֹbe.kir.BoH7130themhadH183greedyH183cravingsתַּאֲוָ֑הta.'a.VahH8378;and the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478alsoגַּ֚םgamH1571weptוַיִּבְכּ֗וּvai.yiv.KuH1058againוַיָּשֻׁ֣בוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Whoמִ֥יmiH4310will give usmeatבָּשָֽׂר׃ba.SarH1320to eatיַאֲכִלֵ֖נוּya.'a.khi.Le.nuH398?
5We rememberזָכַ֙רְנוּ֙za.Khar.nuH2142the fishהַדָּגָ֔הha.da.GahH1710whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834we used to eatנֹאכַ֥לno.KhalH398forH2600freeH2600in Egyptבְּמִצְרַ֖יִםbe.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,the cucumbersהַקִּשֻּׁאִ֗יםha.ki.shu.'ImH7180,the melonsהָֽאֲבַטִּחִ֔יםha.'a.va.ti.ChimH20,the leeksהֶחָצִ֥ירhe.cha.TzirH2682,the onionsהַבְּצָלִ֖יםha.be.tza.LimH1211,and the garlicהַשּׁוּמִֽים׃ha.shu.MimH7762;
8The peopleהָעָ֨םha.'AmH5971would roamH7751aboutH7751and gatherוְלָֽקְט֜וּve.la.ke.TuH3950itand grindוְטָחֲנ֣וּve.ta.cha.NuH2912itbetween two millstonesבָרֵחַ֗יִםva.re.Cha.yimH7347,orא֤וֹ'oH176poundדָכוּ֙da.KhuH1743itin the mortarבַּמְּדֹכָ֔הba.me.do.KhahH4085,and boilוּבִשְּׁלוּ֙u.vi.she.LuH1310itin the potבַּפָּר֔וּרba.pa.RurH6517and makeוְעָשׂ֥וּve.'a.SuH6213loavesעֻג֑וֹתu.GotH5692with it; and its tasteטַעְמ֔וֹta'.MoH2940was like the tasteכְּטַ֖עַםke.Ta.'amH2940ofcakeלְשַׁ֥דle.ShadH3955baked withoilהַשָּֽׁמֶן׃ha.Sha.menH8081.

10Now Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֨עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971weepingבֹּכֶה֙bo.KhehH1058throughout their familiesלְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔יוle.mish.pe.cho.TavH4940,eachH376oneH376at the entranceלְפֶ֣תַחle.Fe.tachH6607of his tentאָהֳל֑וֹ'o.ho.LoH168;and the angerאַ֤ף'afH639of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068becameH2734veryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966hotH2734, andMosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872was displeasedוּבְעֵינֵ֥י רָֽע׃u.ve.'ei.Nei Ra'H7489H5869.
11So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, “Whyלָמָ֤הla.MahH4100have YoubeenH7489so hardH7489on Your servantלְעַבְדֶּ֔ךָle.'av.De.khaH5650?And whyוְלָ֛מָּהve.La.mahH4100have I not foundמָצָ֥תִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֑יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,that You have putלָשׂ֗וּםla.SumH7760the burdenמַשָּׂ֛אma.Sa'H4853of allכָּל־kol-H3605thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֥םha.'AmH5971on me?

15So ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518You are going to dealעֹ֣שֶׂה'O.sehH6213with me thisH3602wayH3602,pleaseנָא֙na'H4994killהָרְגֵ֤נִיha.re.Ge.niH2026me nowהָרֹ֔גha.RogH2026,ifאִם־'im-H518I have foundמָצָ֥אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֑יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,and do not let me seeאֶרְאֶ֖ה'er.'EhH7200my miseryH7463.”
Seventy Elders to Assist Moses
16The Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068therefore saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Gatherאֶסְפָה־'es.fah-H622for Meseventyשִׁבְעִ֣יםshiv.'ImH7657menאִישׁ֮'ishH376from the eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֣יmi.zik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֒Yis.ra.'ElH3478,whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you knowיָדַ֔עְתָּya.Da'.taH3045to be the eldersזִקְנֵ֥יzik.NeiH2205of the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971and their officersוְשֹׁטְרָ֑יוve.sho.te.RavH7860,and bringוְלָקַחְתָּ֤ve.la.kach.TaH3947them to the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֔דmo.'EdH4150,and have them takeH3320their standH3320thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033with you.
17Then I will comeוְיָרַדְתִּ֗יve.ya.rad.TiH3381downH3381and speakוְדִבַּרְתִּ֣יve.di.bar.TiH1696with you thereשָׁם֒shamH8033,and I will takeH680awayH680someמִן־min-H4480ofthe Spiritהָר֛וּחַha.Ru.achH7307whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834is upon you, and putוְשַׂמְתִּ֣יve.sam.TiH7760Himupon them; and they shall bearוְנָשְׂא֤וּve.na.se.'UH5375the burdenבְּמַשָּׂ֣אbe.ma.Sa'H4853of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971with you, so that you will not bearתִשָּׂ֥אti.Sa'H5375itbyH905yourselfH905.
18And you shall sayתֹּאמַ֜רto.MarH559to the peopleהָעָ֨םha.'AmH5971, ‘Consecrateהִתְקַדְּשׁ֣וּhit.ka.de.ShuH6942yourselves for tomorrowלְמָחָר֮le.ma.CharH4279,and you shall eatוַאֲכַלְתֶּ֣םva.'a.khal.TemH398meatבָּשָׂר֒ba.SarH1320;for you have weptבְּכִיתֶם֩be.khi.TemH1058in the earsבְּאָזְנֵ֨יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241of the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “OhH4310that someoneH4310would give us meatבָּשָׂ֔רba.SarH1320to eatיַאֲכִלֵ֙נוּ֙ya.'a.khi.Le.nuH398!For we were well-offט֥וֹבTovH2895in Egyptבְּמִצְרָ֑יִםbe.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.”Therefore the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068will giveוְנָתַ֨ןve.na.TanH5414you meatבָּשָׂ֖רba.SarH1320and you shall eatוַאֲכַלְתֶּֽם׃va.'a.khal.TemH398.
20but for a wholeיָמִ֗יםya.MimH3117monthחֹ֣דֶשׁCho.deshH2320,untilאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H5704H834it comesH3318outH3318of your noseמֵֽאַפְּכֶ֔םme.'a.pe.KhemH639andmakesוְהָיָ֥הve.ha.YahH1961you nauseatedלְזָרָ֑אle.za.Ra'H2214;becauseיַ֗עַן כִּֽי־Ya.'an ki-H3282H3588you have rejectedמְאַסְתֶּ֤םme.'as.TemH3988the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834is amongבְּקִרְבְּכֶ֔םbe.kir.be.KhemH7130you and have weptוַתִּבְכּ֤וּva.tiv.KuH1058beforeלְפָנָיו֙le.fa.NavH6440Him, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Whyלָ֥מָּהLa.mahH4100did we everזֶּ֖הzehH2088leaveH3318H4480Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714?”’”
21But Mosesמֹשֶׁה֒mo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּאמֶר֮vai.yo.MerH559, “The peopleהָעָ֕םha.'AmH5971,amongבְּקִרְבּ֑וֹbe.kir.BoH7130whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I am included,are sixשֵׁשׁ־shesh-H8337hundredמֵא֥וֹתme.'otH3967thousandאֶ֙לֶף֙'e.lefH505on footרַגְלִ֔יrag.LiH7273!Yet You have saidאָמַ֗רְתָּ'a.Mar.taH559, ‘I will giveאֶתֵּ֣ן'e.TenH5414them meatבָּשָׂר֙ba.SarH1320,so that they may eatוְאָכְל֖וּve.'a.khe.LuH398for a wholeיָמִֽים׃ya.MimH3117monthחֹ֥דֶשׁCho.deshH2320.’
22Are flocksהֲצֹ֧אןha.TzonH6629and herdsוּבָקָ֛רu.va.KarH1241to be slaughteredיִשָּׁחֵ֥טyi.sha.ChetH7819for them, so that it will beH4672sufficientH4672for them? Orאִ֣ם'imH518are allכָּל־kol-H3605the fishדְּגֵ֥יde.GeiH1709of the seaהַיָּ֛םhai.YamH3220to becaughtיֵאָסֵ֥ףye.'a.SefH622for them, so that it will beH4672sufficientH4672for them?”
23Then the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872, “Isthe Lord’sיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068powerהֲיַ֥דha.YadH3027tooH7114littleH7114?Nowעַתָּ֥ה'a.TahH6258you shall seeתִרְאֶ֛הtir.'EhH7200whetherMy wordדְבָרִ֖יde.va.RiH1697willcomeH7136trueH7136for you orאִם־'im-H518not.”
24So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872wentH3318outH3318andtoldוַיְדַבֵּר֙vay.da.BerH1696the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971the wordsדִּבְרֵ֣יdiv.ReiH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.He also gatheredוַיֶּאֱסֹ֞ףvai.ye.'e.SofH622seventyשִׁבְעִ֥יםshiv.'ImH7657menאִישׁ֙'ishH376of the eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֣יmi.zik.NeiH2205of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971,and positionedוַֽיַּעֲמֵ֥דvai.ya.'a.MedH5975them aroundסְבִיבֹ֥תse.vi.VotH5439the tentהָאֹֽהֶל׃ha.'O.helH168.
25Then the Lordיְהוָ֥ה׀Yah.wehH3068cameH3381downוַיֵּ֨רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381in the cloudבֶּעָנָן֮be.'a.NanH6051and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to him; and He tookH680awayH680someמִן־min-H4480of the Spiritהָר֙וּחַ֙ha.Ru.achH7307whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834was upon him and placedוַיִּתֵּ֕ןvai.yi.TenH5414Himupon the seventyשִׁבְעִ֥יםshiv.'ImH7657eldersאִ֖ישׁ הַזְּקֵנִ֑ים'ish ha.ze.ke.NimH376H2205.And when the Spiritהָר֔וּחַha.Ru.achH7307restedכְּנ֤וֹחַke.No.achH5117upon them, they prophesiedוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012.Yet they did not doH3254itagainH3254.
26But twoשְׁנֵֽי־she.nei-H8147menH376had remainedוַיִּשָּׁאֲר֣וּvai.yi.sha.'a.RuH7604in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֡הba.ma.cha.NehH4264;the nameשֵׁ֣םshemH8034of the oneהָאֶחָ֣ד׀ha.'e.ChadH259was Eldadאֶלְדָּ֡ד'el.DadH419,and the nameוְשֵׁם֩ve.ShemH8034of theotherהַשֵּׁנִ֨יha.she.NiH8145,Medadמֵידָ֜דmei.DadH4312. Andthe Spiritהָר֗וּחַha.Ru.achH7307restedוַתָּ֧נַחva.Ta.nachH5117upon them (and they were among those who had been registeredבַּכְּתֻבִ֔יםba.ke.tu.VimH3789,but had not goneH3318outH3318to the tentהָאֹ֑הֱלָהha.'O.he.lahH168),and they prophesiedוַיִּֽתְנַבְּא֖וּvai.yit.na.be.'UH5012in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ba.ma.cha.NehH4264.
27So a youngהַנַּ֔עַרha.Na.'arH5288manH5288ranוַיָּ֣רָץvai.Ya.rotzH7323and informedוַיַּגֵּ֥דvai.ya.GedH5046Mosesלְמֹשֶׁ֖הle.mo.ShehH4872,and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “Eldadאֶלְדָּ֣ד'el.DadH419and Medadוּמֵידָ֔דu.mei.DadH4312are prophesyingמִֽתְנַבְּאִ֖יםmit.na.be.'ImH5012in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ba.ma.cha.NehH4264.”
28ThenJoshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091the sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנ֗וּןNunH5126,the personalH8334servantמְשָׁרֵ֥תme.sha.RetH8334of Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872from his youthמִבְּחֻרָ֖יוmi.be.chu.RavH979,respondedוַיַּ֜עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “My lordאֲדֹנִ֥י'a.do.NiH113Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872,restrainכְּלָאֵֽם׃ke.la.'EmH3607them!”
29But Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “AreH7065you jealousH7065for my sake?IfH4310H5414onlyH4310H5414allכָּל־kol-H3605the Lord’sיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068peopleעַ֤ם'amH5971were prophetsנְבִיאִ֔יםne.vi.'ImH5030,that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068would putH5414His Spiritרוּח֖וֹru.ChoH7307upon them!”

31Now a windוְר֜וּחַve.Ru.achH7307burstH5265forthH5265from the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and it broughtוַיָּ֣גָזvai.Ya.gozH1468quailשַׂלְוִים֮sal.VimH7958from the seaהַיָּם֒hai.YamH3220,and droppedוַיִּטֹּ֨שׁvai.yi.ToshH5203thembesideH5921the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֜הha.ma.cha.NehH4264,about a day’sי֣וֹםYomH3117journeyכְּדֶ֧רֶךְke.De.rekhH1870on thisכֹּ֗הKohH3541sideand a day’sיוֹם֙yOmH3117journeyוּכְדֶ֤רֶךְu.khe.De.rekhH1870on the otherכֹּ֔הKohH3541sideallH5439aroundH5439the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הha.ma.cha.NehH4264, and abouttwo cubitsוּכְאַמָּתַ֖יִםu.khe.'a.ma.Ta.yimH520deepon the surfaceפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440of the groundהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776.
32And the peopleהָעָ֡םha.'AmH5971spentוַיָּ֣קָםvai.Ya.komH6965allכָּל־kol-H3605that dayהַיּוֹם֩hai.yOmH3117,allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605nightהַלַּ֜יְלָהha.Lay.lahH3915,and allוְכֹ֣ל׀ve.KholH3605the nextהַֽמָּחֳרָ֗תha.mo.cho.RatH4283dayי֣וֹםYomH3117,and they gatheredוַיַּֽאַסְפוּ֙vai.ya.'as.FuH622the quailהַשְּׂלָ֔וha.se.LavH7958(the one who gatheredH4591leastH4591gatheredאָסַ֖ף'a.SafH622tenעֲשָׂרָ֣ה'a.sa.RahH6235homersחֳמָרִ֑יםcho.ma.RimH2563)and spreadוַיִּשְׁטְח֤וּvai.yish.te.ChuH7849themoutשָׁט֔וֹחַsha.To.achH7849for themselves allH5439aroundH5439the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ha.ma.cha.NehH4264.
33While the meatהַבָּשָׂ֗רha.ba.SarH1320was stillעוֹדֶ֙נּוּ֙o.De.nuH5750betweenבֵּ֣יןbeinH996their teethשִׁנֵּיהֶ֔םshi.nei.HemH8127,beforeטֶ֖רֶםTe.remH2962it was chewedיִכָּרֵ֑תyi.ka.RetH3772,the angerוְאַ֤ףve.'AfH639of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was kindledחָרָ֣הcha.RahH2734against the peopleבָעָ֔םva.'AmH5971,and the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068struckוַיַּ֤ךְvai.YakhH5221the peopleבָּעָ֔םba.'AmH5971with a veryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966severeרַבָּ֥הra.BahH7227plagueמַכָּ֖הma.KahH4347.
