The Seven Lamps

1Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֥הmo.ShehH4872,sayingלֵּאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

2“Speakדַּבֵּר֙da.BerH1696to Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175and sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֖ve.'a.mar.TaH559to him, ‘When youmountבְּהַעֲלֹֽתְךָ֙be.ha.'a.lo.te.KhaH5927the lampsהַנֵּרֹ֔תha.ne.RotH5216,the sevenשִׁבְעַ֥תshiv.'AtH7651lampsהַנֵּרֽוֹת׃ha.ne.RotH5216willprovideH215lightיָאִ֖ירוּya.'I.ruH215in the frontמוּל֙ פְּנֵ֣יmul pe.NeiH4136 H6440of the lampstandהַמְּנוֹרָ֔הha.me.no.RahH4501.’”

3Therefore Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213soכֵּן֙kenH3651; hemountedהֶעֱלָ֖הhe.'e.LahH5927its lampsנֵרֹתֶ֑יהָne.ro.Tei.haH5216at the frontפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the lampstandהַמְּנוֹרָ֔הha.me.no.RahH4501,justH3512asH3512the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֥הtzi.VahH6680Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃mo.ShehH4872.

4Now thisוְזֶ֨הve.ZehH2088was the workmanshipמַעֲשֵׂ֤הma.'a.SehH4639of the lampstandהַמְּנֹרָה֙ha.me.no.RahH4501,hammeredH4749workמִקְשָׁ֣הmik.ShahH4749of goldזָהָ֔בza.HavH2091;from its baseיְרֵכָ֥הּye.re.KhahH3409to its flowerH6525ornamentationH6525it was hammeredH4749workמִקְשָׁ֣הmik.ShahH4749; according to thepatternכַּמַּרְאֶ֗הka.mar.'EhH4758whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068had shownהֶרְאָ֤הher.'AhH7200Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872,soכֵּ֥ןkenH3651he madeעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213the lampstandהַמְּנֹרָֽה׃ פha.me.no.RahH4501.

Cleansing the Levites

5Again the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֥הmo.ShehH4872,sayingלֵּאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

6“Takeקַ֚חkachH3947the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881from amongמִתּ֖וֹךְmi.TokhH8432the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478andcleanseוְטִהַרְתָּ֖ve.ti.har.TaH2891them.

7ThisH3541isH3541whatH3541you shall doתַעֲשֶׂ֤הta.'a.SehH6213to them, for their cleansingH2891:sprinkleהַזֵּ֥הha.ZehH5137purifyingH2891waterמֵ֣יmeiH4325on them, and have themuseוְהֶעֱבִ֤ירוּve.he.'e.Vi.ruH5674a razorתַ֙עַר֙ta.'arH8593overH5921their wholeכָּל־kol-H3605bodyבְּשָׂרָ֔םbe.sa.RamH1320, and they shallwashוְכִבְּס֥וּve.khi.be.SuH3526their clothesבִגְדֵיהֶ֖םvig.dei.HemH899and cleanseH2891themselves.

8Then have them takeוְלָֽקְחוּ֙ve.la.ke.ChuH3947abullפַּ֣רparH6499 H1121 H1241withits grain offeringוּמִנְחָת֔וֹu.min.cha.ToH4503,fineסֹ֖לֶתSo.letH5560flourH5560mixedבְּלוּלָ֣הbe.lu.LahH1101with oilבַשָּׁ֑מֶןva.Sha.menH8081;and you shall takeתִּקַּ֥חti.KachH3947a secondשֵׁנִ֥יshe.NiH8145bullוּפַר־u.far-H6499as a sinלְחַטָּֽאת׃le.cha.TatH2403offeringH2403.

9Soyou shall presentוְהִקְרַבְתָּ֙ve.hik.rav.TaH7126the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881in frontלִפְנֵ֖יlif.NeiH6440of the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֑דmo.'EdH4150.You shall also assembleוְהִ֨קְהַלְתָּ֔ve.Hik.hal.taH6950the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605congregationעֲדַ֖ת'a.DatH5712of the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478,

10and presentוְהִקְרַבְתָּ֥ve.hik.rav.TaH7126the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֖םhal.vi.YimH3881beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;and the sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478shall layוְסָמְכ֧וּve.sa.me.KhuH5564their handsיְדֵיהֶ֖םye.dei.HemH3027on the Levitesהַלְוִיִּֽם׃hal.vi.YimH3881.

11Aaronאַהֲרֹ֨ן'a.ha.RonH175then shallpresentוְהֵנִיף֩ve.he.NifH5130the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֤םhal.vi.YimH3881beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068as awaveH8573offeringH8573from the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478, so that they mayqualifyוְהָי֕וּve.ha.YuH1961to performלַעֲבֹ֖דla.'a.VodH5647the serviceעֲבֹדַ֥ת'a.vo.DatH5656of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

12Nowthe Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּם֙ve.hal.vi.YimH3881shall layיִסְמְכ֣וּyis.me.KhuH5564their handsיְדֵיהֶ֔םye.dei.HemH3027on the headsרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of the bullsהַפָּרִ֑יםha.pa.RimH6499;then you are to offerוַ֠עֲשֵׂהVa.'a.sehH6213the oneהָאֶחָ֨דha.'e.ChadH259as a sinחַטָּ֜אתcha.TatH2403offeringH2403and the otherהָאֶחָ֤דha.'e.ChadH259as a burntעֹלָה֙'o.LahH5930offeringH5930to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068,to makeלְכַפֵּ֖רle.kha.PerH3722atonementH3722for the Levitesהַלְוִיִּֽם׃hal.vi.YimH3881.

13And you shall have the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881standוְהַֽעֲמַדְתָּ֙ve.ha.'a.mad.TaH5975beforeH6440Aaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן'a.ha.RonH175and his sonsבָנָ֑יוva.NavH1121so as to presentוְהֵנַפְתָּ֥ve.he.naf.TaH5130them as a waveH8573offeringH8573to the Lordלַֽיהוָֽה׃la.Yah.wehH3068.

14“So you shall singleH914outH914the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881from amongמִתּ֖וֹךְmi.TokhH8432the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478, andthe Levitesהַלְוִיִּֽם׃hal.vi.YimH3881shall be Mine.

15Then afterוְאַֽחֲרֵי־ve.'a.cha.rei-H310that the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881may goיָבֹ֣אוּya.Vo.'uH935inH935to serveלַעֲבֹ֖דla.'a.VodH5647the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֑דmo.'EdH4150.But you shall cleanseוְטִֽהַרְתָּ֣ve.ti.har.TaH2891them andpresentוְהֵנַפְתָּ֥ve.he.naf.TaH5130them as a waveH8573offeringH8573;

16for they areexclusivelyנְתֻנִ֨יםne.tu.NimH5414givenנְתֻנִ֥יםne.tu.NimH5414to Me from amongמִתּ֖וֹךְmi.TokhH8432the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.I have takenלָקַ֥חְתִּיla.Kach.tiH3947them for MyselfinsteadH8478ofH8478the firstbornפִּטְרַ֨תpit.RatH6363of everyכָּל־kol-H3605wombרֶ֜חֶםRe.chemH7358,the firstbornבְּכ֥וֹרbe.KhorH1060of allכֹּל֙kolH3605the sonsמִבְּנֵ֣יmi.be.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478.

17Foreveryכָל־khol-H3605firstbornבְּכוֹר֙be.khOrH1060among the sonsבִּבְנֵ֣יbiv.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478is Mine, among the peopleבָּאָדָ֖םba.'a.DamH120and among the animalsוּבַבְּהֵמָ֑הu.va.be.he.MahH929;on the dayבְּי֗וֹםbe.YomH3117that I fatallyH5221struckH5221allכָל־khol-H3605the firstbornבְּכוֹר֙be.khOrH1060in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,I sanctifiedהִקְדַּ֥שְׁתִּיhik.Dash.tiH6942them for Myself.

18But I have takenוָאֶקַּח֙va.'e.KachH3947the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881insteadH8478ofH8478everyכָּל־kol-H3605firstbornבְּכ֖וֹרbe.KhorH1060among the sonsבִּבְנֵ֥יbiv.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

19AndI have givenוָאֶתְּנָ֨הva.'e.te.NahH5414the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֜םhal.vi.YimH3881asa giftנְתֻנִ֣ים׀ne.tu.NimH5414to Aaronלְאַהֲרֹ֣ןle.'a.ha.RonH175and to his sonsH1121from amongמִתּוֹךְ֮mi.toKhH8432the sonsH1121of IsraelH3478,to performלַעֲבֹ֞דla.'a.VodH5647the serviceעֲבֹדַ֤ת'a.vo.DatH5656of the sonsH1121of IsraelH3478at the tentבְּאֹ֣הֶלbe.'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֔דmo.'EdH4150and to makeוּלְכַפֵּ֖רu.le.kha.PerH3722atonementH3722onH5921behalfH5921ofH5921the sonsH1121of IsraelH3478,so that there will be noוְלֹ֨אve.Lo'H3808afflictionנֶ֔גֶףNe.gefH5063among the sonsH1121of IsraelH3478due totheir approachingבְּגֶ֥שֶׁתbe.Ge.shetH5066the sanctuaryהַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ha.Ko.deshH6944.”

20So this is whatMosesמֹשֶׁ֧הmo.ShehH4872,Aaronוְאַהֲרֹ֛ןve.'a.ha.RonH175,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the congregationעֲדַ֥ת'a.DatH5712of the sonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478didוַיַּ֨עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213to the Levitesלַלְוִיִּ֑םlal.vi.YimH3881;according to everythingכְּ֠כֹלKe.kholH3605that the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֨הtzi.VahH6680Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872regarding the Levitesלַלְוִיִּ֔םlal.vi.YimH3881,soכֵּן־ken-H3651the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478didעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213to them.

21The Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֗םhal.vi.YimH3881,too, purifiedH2398themselves fromH2398sinH2398and washedוַֽיְכַבְּסוּ֙vay.kha.be.SuH3526their clothesבִּגְדֵיהֶ֔םbig.dei.HemH899;and Aaronאַהֲרֹ֥ן'a.ha.RonH175presentedוַיָּ֨נֶףvai.Ya.nefH5130them as a waveH8573offeringH8573beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.Aaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן'a.ha.RonH175also madeH3722atonementוַיְכַפֵּ֧רvay.kha.PerH3722for them to cleanseלְטַהֲרָֽם׃le.ta.ha.RamH2891them.

22Then afterוְאַחֲרֵי־ve.'a.cha.rei-H310that the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֗םhal.vi.YimH3881wentH935inH935to performלַעֲבֹ֤דla.'a.VodH5647their serviceעֲבֹֽדָתָם֙'a.vo.da.TamH5656in the tentבְּאֹ֣הֶלbe.'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֔דmo.'EdH4150beforeH6440Aaronאַהֲרֹ֖ן'a.ha.RonH175and his sonsבָנָ֑יוva.NavH1121;justH3512asH3512the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068had commandedצִוָּ֨הtzi.VahH6680Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872concerningעַל־'al-H5921the Levitesהַלְוִיִּ֔םhal.vi.YimH3881,soH3651they didעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213to them.

Retirement for the Levites

23Now the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֥הmo.ShehH4872,sayingלֵּאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

24“ThisH2088is whatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834appliesto the Levitesלַלְוִיִּ֑םlal.vi.YimH3881: fromtwenty-fiveחָמֵ֨שׁ וְעֶשְׂרִ֤יםcha.Mesh ve.'es.RimH6242 H2568yearsשָׁנָה֙sha.NahH8141oldמִבֶּן֩mi.BenH1121and upwardוָמַ֔עְלָהva.Ma'.lahH4605they shall enterיָבוֹא֙ya.Vo'H935to performלִצְבֹ֣אlitz.Vo'H6633serviceצָבָ֔אtza.Va'H6635in the workבַּעֲבֹדַ֖תba.'a.vo.DatH5656of the tentאֹ֥הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵֽד׃mo.'EdH4150.

25But at the ageוּמִבֶּן֙u.mi.BenH1121of fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֣יםcha.mi.ShimH2572yearsשָׁנָ֔הsha.NahH8141they shallretireיָשׁ֖וּבya.ShuvH7725from serviceמִצְּבָ֣אmi.tze.Va'H6635in the workהָעֲבֹדָ֑הha.'a.vo.DahH5656and not workיַעֲבֹ֖דya.'a.VodH5647anymoreעֽוֹד׃odH5750.

26They may, however,assistוְשֵׁרֵ֨תve.she.RetH8334their brothersאֶחָ֜יו'e.ChavH251in the tentבְּאֹ֤הֶלbe.'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵד֙mo.'EdH4150,to fulfillלִשְׁמֹ֣רlish.MorH8104an obligationמִשְׁמֶ֔רֶתmish.Me.retH4931, but they themselvesshall doיַעֲבֹ֑דya.'a.VodH5647noלֹ֣אlo'H3808workוַעֲבֹדָ֖הva.'a.vo.DahH5656.InH3602thisH3602wayH3602you shall dealתַּעֲשֶׂ֥הta.'a.SehH6213with the Levitesלַלְוִיִּ֖םlal.vi.YimH3881in their obligationsבְּמִשְׁמְרֹתָֽם׃ פbe.mish.me.ro.TamH4931.”
