Numbers 11

The People Complain

1Now the peopleH5971 becameH1961 like 1those who complainH596 of adversityH7451 2in the earsH241 of the LordH3068; and the LordH3068 heardH8085 them and His angerH639 was kindledH2734, and the fireH784 of the LordH3068 burnedH1197 among them and consumedH398 some at the outskirtsH7097 of the campH4264. 23The peopleH5971 then criedH6817 outH6817 to MosesH4872; and MosesH4872 prayedH6419 to the LordH3068, and the fireH784 4diedH8257 outH8257. 3So that placeH4725 was namedH7121H8034 56TaberahH8404, becauseH3588 the fireH784 of the LordH3068 burnedH1197 among them.

4Now the 7rabbleH628 whoH834 were amongH7130 them 8hadH183 greedyH183 cravingsH8378; and the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 alsoH1571 weptH1058 againH7725 and saidH559, “9WhoH4310 will give us 10meatH1320 to eatH398? 511We rememberH2142 the fishH1710 whichH834 we used to eatH398 forH2600 freeH2600 in EgyptH4714, the cucumbersH7180, the melonsH20, the leeksH2682, the onionsH1211, and the garlicH7762; 6but nowH6258 12our 13appetiteH5315 is goneH3002. ThereH369 isH369 nothingH369 at allH3605 14to lookH5869 at exceptH1115 this mannaH4478!”

715Now the mannaH4478 was like corianderH1407 seedH2233, and its appearanceH5869 like that of 1617bdelliumH916. 8The peopleH5971 would roamH7751 aboutH7751 and gatherH3950 it and grindH2912 it 18between two millstonesH7347, orH176 poundH1743 it in the mortarH4085, and boilH1310 it in the potH6517 and makeH6213 loavesH5692 with it; and its tasteH2940 was like the tasteH2940 of 19cakeH3955 baked with oilH8081. 920When the dewH2919 cameH3381 downH3381 on the campH4264 at nightH3915, the mannaH4478 would comeH3381 downH3381 21with it.

The Complaint of Moses

10Now MosesH4872 heardH8085 the peopleH5971 weepingH1058 throughout their familiesH4940, eachH376 oneH376 at the entranceH6607 of his tentH168; and the angerH639 of the LordH3068 becameH2734 veryH3966 hotH2734, and 22MosesH4872 was displeasedH7489H5869. 1123So MosesH4872 saidH559 to the LordH3068, “WhyH4100 have You 24beenH7489 so hardH7489 on Your servantH5650? And whyH4100 have I not foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, that You have putH7760 the burdenH4853 of allH3605 thisH2088 peopleH5971 on me? 12Was it I who conceivedH2029 allH3605 thisH2088 peopleH5971? Or did I giveH3205 birthH3205 to them, that You should sayH559 to me, ‘CarryH5375 them 25in your armsH2436, as a 2627nurseH539 carriesH5375 a nursingH3243 infantH3243, to the landH127 whichH834 28You sworeH7650 to their fathersH1’? 13WhereH4480H370 am I to get meatH1320 to giveH5414 to 29allH3605 thisH2088 peopleH5971? For they weepH1058 beforeH5921 me, sayingH559, ‘GiveH5414 us meatH1320 so that we may eatH398!’ 1430I amH3201 not ableH3201 to carryH5375 allH3605 thisH2088 peopleH5971 by myselfH905, becauseH3588 it is tooH4480 31burdensomeH3515 for me. 1532So ifH518 You are going to dealH6213 with me thisH3602 wayH3602, pleaseH4994 killH2026 me nowH2026, ifH518 I have foundH4672 favorH2580 in Your sightH5869, and do not let me seeH7200 my miseryH7463.”

Seventy Elders to Assist Moses

16The LordH3068 therefore saidH559 to MosesH4872, “GatherH622 for Me 33seventyH7657 menH376 from the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, 34whomH834 you knowH3045 to be the eldersH2205 of the peopleH5971 and their officersH7860, and bringH3947 them to the tentH168 of meetingH4150, and have them takeH3320 their standH3320 thereH8033 with you. 1735Then I will comeH3381 downH3381 and speakH1696 with you thereH8033, and I will takeH680 awayH680 someH4480 of 36the SpiritH7307 whoH834 is upon you, and putH7760 Him upon them; and they shall bearH5375 the burdenH4853 of the peopleH5971 with you, so that you will not bearH5375 it byH905 yourselfH905. 18And you shall sayH559 to the peopleH5971, ‘37ConsecrateH6942 yourselves for tomorrowH4279, and you shall eatH398 meatH1320; for you have weptH1058 38in the earsH241 of the LordH3068, sayingH559, “39OhH4310 that someoneH4310 would give us meatH1320 to eatH398! For we were well-offH2895 in EgyptH4714.” Therefore the LordH3068 will giveH5414 you meatH1320 and you shall eatH398. 19You shall eatH398, not oneH259 dayH3117, norH3808 two daysH3117, norH3808 fiveH2568 daysH3117, norH3808 tenH6235 daysH3117, norH3808 twentyH6242 daysH3117, 2040but for a wholeH3117 monthH2320, untilH5704H834 it comesH3318 outH3318 of your noseH639 and 41makesH1961 you nauseatedH2214; becauseH3282H3588 42you have rejectedH3988 the LordH3068 whoH834 is amongH7130 you and have weptH1058 beforeH6440 Him, sayingH559, “WhyH4100 did we everH2088 leaveH3318H4480 EgyptH4714?”’” 21But MosesH4872 saidH559, “The peopleH5971, amongH7130 whomH834 I am included, are sixH8337 hundredH3967 thousandH505 on footH7273! Yet You have saidH559, ‘I will giveH5414 them meatH1320, so that they may eatH398 for a wholeH3117 monthH2320.’ 22Are flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 to be slaughteredH7819 for them, so that it will beH4672 sufficientH4672 for them? OrH518 are allH3605 the fishH1709 of the seaH3220 to be 43caughtH622 for them, so that it will beH4672 sufficientH4672 for them?” 23Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “Is 44the Lord’sH3068 45powerH3027 tooH7114 littleH7114? NowH6258 you shall seeH7200 whether 46My wordH1697 will 47comeH7136 trueH7136 for you orH518 not.”

24So MosesH4872 wentH3318 outH3318 and 48toldH1696 the peopleH5971 the wordsH1697 of the LordH3068. He also gatheredH622 seventyH7657 menH376 of the eldersH2205 of the peopleH5971, and positionedH5975 them aroundH5439 the tentH168. 2549Then the LordH3068 cameH3381 downH3381 in the cloudH6051 and spokeH1696 to him; and He tookH680 awayH680 someH4480 of the SpiritH7307 whoH834 was upon him and placedH5414 Him upon the seventyH7657 eldersH376H2205. And when the SpiritH7307 restedH5117 upon them, they prophesiedH5012. Yet they did not doH3254 it againH3254.

26But twoH8147 menH376 had remainedH7604 in the campH4264; the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was EldadH419, and the nameH8034 of the 50otherH8145, MedadH4312. And 51the SpiritH7307 restedH5117 upon them (and they were among those who had been registeredH3789, but had not goneH3318 outH3318 to the tentH168), and they prophesiedH5012 in the campH4264. 27So a youngH5288 manH5288 ranH7323 and informedH5046 MosesH4872, and saidH559, “EldadH419 and MedadH4312 are prophesyingH5012 in the campH4264.” 28Then 52JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, the personalH8334 servantH8334 of MosesH4872 from his youthH979, respondedH6030 and saidH559, “53My lordH113 MosesH4872, restrainH3607 them!” 29But MosesH4872 saidH559 to him, “AreH7065 you jealousH7065 for my sake? 54IfH4310H5414 onlyH4310H5414 allH3605 the Lord’sH3068 peopleH5971 were prophetsH5030, that the LordH3068 would putH5414 His SpiritH7307 upon them!” 30Then MosesH4872 55returnedH622 to the campH4264, both he and the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478.

The Quail and the Plague

3156Now a windH7307 burstH5265 forthH5265 from the LordH3068 and it broughtH1468 quailH7958 from the seaH3220, and droppedH5203 them besideH5921 the campH4264, about a day’sH3117 journeyH1870 on thisH3541 side and a day’sH3117 journeyH1870 on the otherH3541 side allH5439 aroundH5439 the campH4264, and about 57two cubitsH520 deep on the surfaceH6440 of the groundH776. 32And the peopleH5971 58spentH6965 allH3605 that dayH3117, allH3605 nightH3915, and allH3605 the nextH4283 dayH3117, and they gatheredH622 the quailH7958 (the one who gatheredH4591 leastH4591 gatheredH622 59tenH6235 60homersH2563) and spreadH7849 them outH7849 for themselves allH5439 aroundH5439 the campH4264. 3361While the meatH1320 was stillH5750 betweenH996 their teethH8127, beforeH2962 it was chewedH3772, the angerH639 of the LordH3068 was kindledH2734 against the peopleH5971, and the LordH3068 struckH5221 the peopleH5971 with a veryH3966 severeH7227 plagueH4347. 34So that placeH4725 was namedH7121H8034 6263Kibroth-hattaavahH6914, becauseH3588 thereH8033 they buriedH6912 the peopleH5971 who had beenH183 greedyH183. 35From Kibroth-hattaavahH6914 64the peopleH5971 setH5265 outH5265 for HazerothH2698, and they 65remainedH1961 at HazerothH2698.
