Exodus 9

New American Standard Bible 1995

Egyptian Cattle Die

1Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “GoH935 to PharaohH6547 and speakH1696 to him, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of the HebrewsH5680, “1LetH7971 My peopleH5971 goH7971, that they may serveH5647 Me. 2For 2ifH518 you refuseH3986 to letH7971 them goH7971 and 3continueH5750 to holdH2388 them, 3beholdH2009, 4the handH3027 of the LordH3068 5will comeH1961 with a veryH3966 severeH3515 pestilenceH1698 on your livestockH4735 whichH834 are in the fieldH7704, on the horsesH5483, on the donkeysH2543, on the camelsH1581, on the herdsH1241, and on the flocksH6629. 46But the LordH3068 will makeH6395 a distinctionH6395 betweenH996 the livestockH4735 of IsraelH3478 and the livestockH4735 of EgyptH4714, so that 7nothingH3808H1697 will dieH4191 of allH3605 that belongs to the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478.”’” 5The LordH3068 setH7760 a definiteH4150 timeH4150, sayingH559, “TomorrowH4279 the LordH3068 will doH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697 in the landH776.” 6So the LordH3068 didH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697 on the nextH4283 dayH4283, and 8allH3605 the livestockH4735 of EgyptH4714 diedH4191; 9but of the livestockH4735 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478, not oneH259 diedH4191. 7PharaohH6547 sentH7971, and beholdH2009, there was not evenH5704 oneH259 of the livestockH4735 of IsraelH3478 deadH4191. But 10the heartH3820 of PharaohH6547 was 11hardenedH3513, and he did not letH7971 the peopleH5971 goH7971.

The Plague of Boils

8Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872 and AaronH175, “TakeH3947 for yourselves handfulsH4393H2651 of sootH6368 from a kilnH3536, and let MosesH4872 throwH2236 it toward the skyH8064 in the sightH5869 of PharaohH6547. 9It will becomeH1961 fine dustH80 overH5921 allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and will becomeH1961 12boilsH7822 breakingH6524 out with soresH76 on manH120 and beastH929 through allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714.” 10So they tookH3947 sootH6368 from a kilnH3536, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 PharaohH6547; and MosesH4872 threwH2236 it toward the skyH8064, and it becameH1961 boilsH7822 breakingH6524 out with soresH76 on manH120 and beastH929. 1113The 14magiciansH2748 couldH3201 not standH5975 beforeH6440 MosesH4872 becauseH4480H6440 of the boilsH7822, for the boilsH7822 were on the magiciansH2748 15as well as on allH3605 the EgyptiansH4714. 12And 16the LordH3068 17hardenedH2388 Pharaoh’sH6547 heartH3820, and he did not listenH8085 to them, justH3512 as the LordH3068 had spokenH1696 to MosesH4872.

13Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “18RiseH7925 up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242 and standH3320 beforeH6440 PharaohH6547 and sayH559 to him, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of the HebrewsH5680, “19LetH7971 My peopleH5971 goH7971, that they may serveH5647 Me. 14For thisH2088 timeH6471 I will sendH7971 allH3605 My plaguesH4046 20on you and your servantsH5650 and your peopleH5971, soH5668 that 21you may knowH3045 that thereH369 is noH369 oneH369 likeH3644 Me in allH3605 the earthH776. 15For if by nowH6258 I had putH7971 forthH7971 My handH3027 and struckH5221 you and your peopleH5971 with pestilenceH1698, you would then have been cutH3582 offH3582 from the earthH776. 16But, indeedH199, 22for thisH2088 reasonH5668 I have allowed you to 23remainH5975, in orderH5668 to showH7200 you My powerH3581 and in orderH4616 to proclaimH5608 My nameH8034 through allH3605 the earthH776. 17StillH5750 you exaltH5549 yourself against My peopleH5971 24by not lettingH7971 them goH7971.

The Plague of Hail

18BeholdH2009, about this timeH6256 tomorrowH4279, 25I will 26sendH4305 a veryH3966 heavyH3515 hailH1259, suchH834 as has not beenH1961 seen in EgyptH4714 from the dayH3117 it was foundedH3245 27untilH5704 nowH6258. 19NowH6258 therefore sendH7971, bringH5756 28your livestockH4735 and whateverH3605H834 you have in the fieldH7704 to safetyH5756. 29EveryH3605 manH120 and beastH929 that is foundH4672 in the fieldH7704 and is not broughtH622 homeH1004, when the hailH1259 comesH3381 downH3381 on them, will dieH4191.”’” 2030The oneH4480 among the servantsH5650 of PharaohH6547 who 31fearedH3372 the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 made his servantsH5650 and his livestockH4735 fleeH5127 into the housesH1004; 21but he whoH834 32paidH7760 noH3808 regardH7760H3820 to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 33leftH5800 his servantsH5650 and his livestockH4735 in the fieldH7704.

22Now the LordH3068 saidH559 to MosesH4872, “StretchH5186 out your handH3027 towardH5921 the skyH8064, that 3435hailH1259 may fallH1961 on allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, on manH120 and on beastH929 and on everyH3605 plantH6212 of the fieldH7704, throughout the landH776 of EgyptH4714.” 23MosesH4872 stretchedH5186 out his staffH4294 towardH5921 the skyH8064, and the LordH3068 36sentH5414 37thunderH6963 and 38hailH1259, and fireH784 ranH1980 down to the earthH776. And the LordH3068 rainedH4305 hailH1259 on the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 24So there was hailH1259, and fireH784 39flashingH3947 continually in the midstH8432 of the hailH1259, veryH3966 severeH3515, suchH834 as had not beenH1961 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 sinceH3975 it becameH1961 a nationH1471. 2540The hailH1259 struckH5221 allH3605 that was in the fieldH7704 through allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, bothH4480 manH120 and beastH929; the hailH1259 also struckH5221 everyH3605 plantH6212 of the fieldH7704 and shatteredH7665 everyH3605 treeH6086 of the fieldH7704. 2641OnlyH7534 in the landH776 of GoshenH1657, whereH834H8033 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 were, there was noH3808 hailH1259.

27Then PharaohH6547 4243sentH7971 for MosesH4872 and AaronH175, and saidH559 to them, “44I have sinnedH2398 thisH6471 timeH6471; the LordH3068 is the righteousH6662 oneH6662, and I and my peopleH5971 are the wickedH7563 onesH7563. 2845MakeH6279 supplicationH6279 to the LordH3068, for there has been enoughH7227 of God’sH430 46thunderH6963 and hailH1259; and 47I will letH7971 you goH7971, and you shall stayH5975 noH3808 longerH3254.” 29MosesH4872 saidH559 to him, “As soon as I goH3318 out of the cityH5892, I will 48spreadH6566 out my 49handsH3709 to the LordH3068; the 50thunderH6963 will ceaseH2308 and there will be hailH1259 noH3808 longerH5750, that you may knowH3045 that 51the earthH776 is the Lord’sH3068. 3052But as for you and your servantsH5650, I knowH3045 that 53you do not yetH2962 54fearH3372 55the LordH3068 GodH430.” 31(Now the flaxH6594 and the 56barleyH8184 were 57ruinedH5221, for the barleyH8184 was in the earH24 and the flaxH6594 was in budH1392. 32But the wheatH2406 and the speltH3698 were not 58ruinedH5221, for they ripen lateH648.) 3359So MosesH4872 wentH3318 out of the cityH5892 from PharaohH6547, and spreadH6566 out his 60handsH3709 to the LordH3068; and the 61thunderH6963 and the hailH1259 ceasedH2308, and rainH4306 62noH3808 longer pouredH5413 on the earthH776. 34But when PharaohH6547 sawH7200 that the rainH4306 and the hailH1259 and the 63thunderH6963 had ceasedH2308, he sinnedH2398 againH3254 and 64hardenedH3513 his heartH3820, he and his servantsH5650. 35Pharaoh’sH6547 heartH3820 was 65hardenedH2388, and he did not letH7971 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 goH7971, justH3512 as the 66LordH3068 had spokenH1696 throughH3027 MosesH4872.
