6Onthe veryἐκείνῃekeinēG1565nightνυκτὶnuktiG3571whenὅτεhoteG3753HerodἩρῴδης,HērōdēsG2264was aboutἤμελλενēmellenG3195to bringπροαγαγεῖνproagageinG4254him forwardG4254,PeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074was sleepingκοιμώμενοςkoimōmenosG2837betweenμεταξὺmetaxuG3342twoδύοduoG1417soldiersστρατιωτῶνstratiōtōnG4757,boundδεδεμένοςdedemenosG1210with twoδυσίν,dusinG1417chainsἁλύσεσινhalusesinG254,and guardsφύλακέςphulakesG5441in frontπρὸproG4253of the doorθύραςthurasG2374were watchingG5083overG5083the prisonφυλακήν.phulakēnG5438.

7And beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,an angelἄγγελοςangelosG32of the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962suddenlyappearedἐπέστηepestēG2186and a lightφῶςphōsG5457shoneἔλαμψενelampsenG2989in the cellοἰκήματι·oikēmatiG3612;and he struckπατάξαςpataxasG3960Peter’sΠέτρουPetrouG4074sideπλευρὰνpleuranG4125and wokeἤγειρενēgeirenG1453him up, sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “GetἀνάσταanastaG450up quicklyτάχει.tacheiG5034.” Andhis chainsἁλύσειςhaluseisG254fellG1601offG1601his handsχειρῶν.cheirōnG5495.

8And the angelἄγγελοςangelosG32saidλέγειlegeiG3004to him, “GirdζῶσαιzōsaiG2224yourself andputὑπόδησαιhupodēsaiG5265on your sandalsσανδάλιάsandaliaG4547.”And he didἐποίησενepoiēsenG4160soοὕτως.houtōsG3779.And he saidG3004to him, “WrapG4016your cloakἱμάτιόνhimationG2440aroundG4016you and followἀκολούθειakoloutheiG190me.”

9And he wentἐξελθὼνexelthōnG1831out and continued to followἠκολούθειēkoloutheiG190,and he did not knowG3609that what was beingG1096doneG1096by the angelἀγγέλου,angelouG32was realἀληθέςalēthesG227,but thoughtἐδόκειedokeiG1380he was seeingβλέπειν.blepeinG991a visionὅραμαhoramaG3705.

10When they had passedδιελθόντεςdielthontesG1330the firstπρώτηνprōtēnG4413and secondδευτέρανdeuteranG1208guardφυλακὴνphulakēnG5438,they cameἦλθανēlthanG2064to the ironσιδηρᾶνsidēranG4603gateπύληνpulēnG4439that leadsφέρουσανpherousanG5342into the cityπόλιν,polinG4172,whichἥτιςhētisG3748openedἠνοίγηēnoigēG455for them by itselfαὐτομάτηautomatēG844;and they wentἐξελθόντεςexelthontesG1831out and wentG4281alongG4281oneμίανmianG1520streetῥύμηνrhumēnG4505,and immediatelyεὐθέωςeutheōsG2112the angelἄγγελοςangelosG32departedἀπέστηapestēG868from him.

11When PeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074cameγενόμενοςgenomenosG1096to himselfἑαυτῷhe'autōG1438,he saidG3004, “NowνῦνnunG3568I knowG3609for sureἀληθῶςalēthōsG230thatthe LordκύριοςkuriosG2962has sentG1821forthἐξαπέστειλενexapesteilenG1821His angelἄγγελονangelonG32and rescuedἐξείλατόexeilatoG1807me from the handχειρὸςcheirosG5495of HerodἩρῴδουHērōdouG2264and from allπάσηςpasēsG3956that the JewishἸουδαίων.IoudaiōnG2453peopleλαοῦlaouG2992were expectingπροσδοκίαςprosdokiasG4329.”

12And when he realizedσυνιδώνsunidōnG4894this,he wentἦλθενēlthenG2064to the houseοἰκίανoikianG3614of MaryΜαρίαςMariasG3137,the motherμητρὸςmētrosG3384ofJohnἸωάννουIōannouG2491who was also calledἐπικαλουμένουepikaloumenouG1941MarkΜάρκου,MarkouG3138,whereοὗhouG3757manyἱκανοὶhikanoiG2425were gatheredG4867togetherσυνηθροισμένοιsunēthroismenoiG4867andwere prayingπροσευχόμενοι.proseuchomenoiG4336.

13When he knockedκρούσαντοςkrousantosG2925at the doorθύρανthuranG2374of the gateπυλῶνοςpulōnosG4440,a servant-girlπαιδίσκηpaidiskēG3814namedὀνόματιonomatiG3686RhodaῬόδη·RhodēG4498cameπροσῆλθενprosēlthenG4334to answerὑπακοῦσαιhupakousaiG5219.

14When she recognizedἐπιγνοῦσαepignousaG1921Peter’sΠέτρουPetrouG4074voiceφωνὴνphōnēnG5456,becauseἀπὸapoG575of her joyχαρᾶςcharasG5479she did not openἤνοιξενēnoixenG455the gateπυλῶναpulōnaG4440,but ranεἰσδραμοῦσαeisdramousaG1532in and announcedἀπήγγειλενapēngeilenG518that PeterΠέτρονPetronG4074was standingἑστάναιhestanaiG2476in frontπρὸproG4253of the gateπυλῶνος.pulōnosG4440.

15They saidἔλεγον·elegonG3004to her, “You are out of your mindμαίνῃ.mainēG3105!”But she kept insistingδιϊσχυρίζετοdiischurizetoG1340that it was soοὕτωςhoutōsG3779.They kept sayingG3004, “It ishis angelἄγγελόςangelosG32.”

16But PeterΠέτροςPetrosG4074continuedἐπέμενενepemenenG1961knockingκρούων·krouōnG2925;and when they had openedἀνοίξαντεςanoixantesG455the door,they sawG3708him and were amazedἐξέστησαν.exestēsanG1839.

17ButmotioningκατασείσαςkataseisasG2678to them with his handχειρὶcheiriG5495to be silentσιγᾶν,siganG4601,he describedδιηγήσατοdiēgēsatoG1334to them howπῶςpōsG4459the LordκύριοςkuriosG2962had ledἐξήγαγενexēgagenG1806him out of the prisonφυλακῆς·phulakēsG5438.And he saidG3004, “ReportἀπαγγείλατεapangeilateG518theseG3778thingsταῦτα.tautaG3778toJamesἸακώβῳIakōbōG2385andthe brethrenἀδελφοῖςadelphoisG80.”ThenG2532he leftἐξελθὼνexelthōnG1831and wentἐπορεύθηeporeuthēG4198to anotherἕτερονheteronG2087placeτόπον.¶toponG5117.
