Job 14
Darby Bible
1ManH120, bornH3205 of womanH802, is of few daysH3117, and full of trouble. 2He cometh forthH3318 like a flowerH6731, and is cut down; and he fleeth as a shadowH6738, and continueth not. 3Yet dost thou openH6491 thine eyesH5869 upon such a oneH2088, and bringest me into judgmentH4941 with thee? 4Who can bring a cleanH2889 [man] out of the uncleanH2931? Not oneH259! 5If his daysH3117 are determined, if the numberH4557 of his monthsH2320 is with thee, [and] thou hast appointed his bounds which he must not passH5674, 6LookH8159 awayH8159 from him; and let him rest, till he accomplish, as a hireling, his dayH3117. 7For there is hopeH8615 for a treeH6086: if it be cutH3772 down, it will sproutH2498 againH5750, and its tender branch will not ceaseH2308; 8Though its rootH8328 grow oldH2204 in the earthH776, and its stock dieH4191 in the groundH776, 9Yet through the scent of waterH4325 it will budH6524, and put forth boughs like a young plant. 10But a manH120 dieth, and is prostrate; yea, manH120 expireth, and whereH346 is he? 11The watersH4325 recede from the lake, and the riverH5104 wasteth and drieth up: 12So manH376 lieth downH7901, and riseth not again; till the heavensH8064 be no more, they do not awakeH5782, nor are raisedH6965 out of their sleepH8142. 13Oh that thou wouldest hideH5641 me in SheolH7585, that thou wouldest keep me secret until thine angerH639 be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a setH5414 time, and rememberH2142 me, — 14(If a manH1397 dieH4191, shall he liveH2421 [again]?) all the daysH3117 of my time of toil would I waitH3176, till my change should comeH935: 15Thou wouldest callH7121, and I would answerH6030 thee; thou wouldest have a desire after the workH4639 of thy handsH3027. 16For nowH6258 thou numberest my stepsH6806: dost thou not watchH8104 over my sinH2403? 17My transgressionH6588 is sealedH2856 up in a bagH6872, and thou heapest up mine iniquityH5771. 18And indeed a mountainH2022 fallingH5307 cometh to nought, and the rockH6697 is removed out of its placeH4725; 19The watersH4325 wear the stonesH68, the floods thereof washH7857 away the dustH6083 of the earthH776; and thou destroyest the hopeH8615 of man. 20Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth awayH7971; thou changest his countenance, and dismissest him. 21His sonsH1121 come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, and he perceiveth it not. 22But his fleshH1320 hath painH3510 for himself alone, and his soulH5315 mourneth for himself.
