2וַיְהִ֞יvay.HiH1961When Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֤םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nebatנְבָט֙ne.VatH5028heard about thisכִּשְׁמֹ֨עַkish.Mo.a'H8085, heיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379returnedוַיָּ֥שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725from Egyptבְמִצְרַ֔יִםve.mitz.Ra.yimH4714וְה֣וּאve.Hu'H1931מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had fledבָּרַ֔חba.RachH1272from Kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֣הshe.lo.MohH8010מִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH6440.
3So they sent forוַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙vai.yish.le.ChuH7971Jeroboamוַיִּקְרְאוּ־vai.yik.re.'u-H7121,andיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379heand allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346and saidוַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּ לֵאמֹֽר׃vay.da.be.Ru le.MorH1696H559,
4“Your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1put a heavyהִקְשָׁ֣הhik.ShahH7185yokeעֻלֵּ֑נוּ'u.Le.nuH5923on usאֶת־'et-H853.But nowוְעַתָּ֡הve.'a.TahH6258you must lightenהָקֵל֩ha.KelH7043the burdenהַקָּשָׁ֗הha.ka.ShahH7186of your father’sאָבִ֜יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1serviceמֵעֲבֹדַ֨תme.'a.vo.DatH5656and the heavyהַכָּבֵ֛דha.ka.VedH3515אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834yokeוּמֵעֻלּ֧וֹu.me.'u.LoH5923he putנָתַ֥ןna.TanH5414on usעָלֵ֖ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921,and we will serve youוְנַֽעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃ve.Na.'av.De.kaH5647.”
6Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֗םre.chav.'AmH7346consultedוַיִּוָּעַ֞ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289withאֶת־'et-H854the eldersהַזְּקֵנִים֙ha.ze.ke.NimH2205whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834had servedהָי֣וּ עֹֽמְדִ֗ים לִפְנֵי֙ha.Yu 'o.me.Dim lif.NeiH1961H5975H6440his fatherאָבִ֔יו'a.VivH1Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֣הshe.lo.MohH8010duringבִּֽהְיֹת֥וֹbih.yo.ToH1961his lifetimeחַ֖יchaiH2416. “Howאֵ֚יךְ'eikhH349do youאַתֶּ֣ם'a.TemH859advise meנֽוֹעָצִ֔יםno.'a.TzimH3289to respondלְהָשִׁ֥יב דָּבָֽר׃le.ha.Shiv da.VarH7725H1697to theseהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088peopleלָֽעָם־la.'om-H5971?”he askedלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559.
7They repliedוַיְדַבְּר֨וּvay.da.be.RuH1696אֵלָ֜יו'e.LavH413לֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you will beתִּֽהְיֶ֨הtih.YehH1961kindלְט֜וֹבle.TovH2896to theseהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088peopleלְהָעָ֤םle.ha.'AmH5971and please themוּרְצִיתָ֔םu.re.tzi.TamH7521by speakingוְדִבַּרְתָּ֥ve.di.bar.TaH1696kindטוֹבִ֑יםto.VimH2896wordsדְּבָרִ֣יםde.va.RimH1697to themאֲלֵהֶ֖ם'a.le.HemH413,they will beוְהָי֥וּve.ha.YuH1961yourservantsעֲבָדִ֖ים'a.va.DimH5650foreverכָּל־ הַיָּמִֽים׃kol- hai.ya.MimH3605H3117.”
8But Rehoboam rejectedוַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛בvai.ya.'a.ZoH5800אֶת־'et-H853the adviceעֲצַ֥ת'a.TzatH6098of the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֖יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834יְעָצֻ֑הוּye.'a.Tzu.huH3289;instead, he consultedוַיִּוָּעַ֗ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289אֶת־'et-H854the young menהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834had grown upגָּדְל֣וּga.de.LuH1431with himאִתּ֔וֹ'i.ToH854and servedהָעֹמְדִ֖יםha.'o.me.DimH5975himלְפָנָֽיו׃le.fa.NavH6440.
9He askedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559themאֲלֵהֶ֗ם'a.le.HemH413, “Whatמָ֚הmahH4100messageדָּבָ֖רda.VarH1697אֶת־'et-H853do youאַתֶּ֣ם'a.TemH859adviseנֽוֹעָצִ֔יםno.'a.TzimH3289that we send backוְנָשִׁ֥יבve.na.ShivH7725to theseהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834have spokenדִּבְּר֤וּdi.be.RuH1696to meאֵלַי֙'e.LaiH413,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘Lightenהָקֵל֙ מִן־ha.Kel min-H7043H4480the yokeהָעֹ֔לha.'OlH5923אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1putנָתַ֥ןna.TanH5414on usעָלֵֽינוּ׃'a.Lei.nuH5921’?”
10The young menהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834had grown upאִתּ֗וֹ גָּדְל֣וּ'i.To ga.de.LuH1431H854with himאִתּוֹ֮'i.ToH854repliedוַיְדַבְּר֣וּvay.da.be.RuH1696, “This is howכֹּֽה־koh-H3541you should answerH559these peopleלָעָם֩la.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834saidדִּבְּר֨וּdi.be.RuH1696to youאֵלֶ֜יךָ'e.Lei.khaH413H559, ‘Your fatherאָבִ֙יךָ֙'a.Vi.khaH1made our yokeעֻלֵּ֔נוּ'u.Le.nuH5923heavyהִכְבִּ֣ידhikh.BidH3513אֶת־'et-H853,but youוְאַתָּ֖הve.'a.TahH859must make it lighterהָקֵ֣לha.KelH7043מֵעָלֵ֑ינוּme.'a.Lei.nuH5921.’This is whatכֹּ֚הkohH3541you should tellH559themאֲלֵהֶ֔ם'a.le.HemH413: ‘My little fingerקָֽטָנִּ֥יka.ta.NiH6995is thickerעָבָ֖ה'a.VahH5666than my father’sאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1waistמִמָּתְנֵ֥יmi.ma.te.NeiH4975!
11Whereasוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258my fatherאָבִי֙'a.ViH1burdenedהֶעְמִ֤יסhe'.MisH6006you with a heavyכָּבֵ֔דka.VedH3515yokeעֹ֣ל'olH5923,Iוַאֲנִ֖יva.'a.NiH589will addעֲלֵיכֶם֙ אֹסִ֣יף'a.lei.Khem 'o.SifH3254H5921toעַֽל־'al-H5921your yokeעֻלְּכֶ֑ם'u.le.KhemH5923.Whereas my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1scourgedיִסַּ֤רyi.SarH3256youאֶתְכֶם֙'et.KhemH853with whipsבַּשּׁוֹטִ֔יםba.sho.TimH7752,Iוַאֲנִ֖יva.'a.NiH589will scourge youwith scorpionsבָּֽעֲקְרַבִּֽים׃ סBa.'ak.ra.BimH6137.’”
12After threeהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֑יha.she.li.ShiH7992daysבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117,Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֧םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971returnedוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346,sinceכַּאֲשֶׁ֨רka.'a.SherH834the kingדִּבֶּ֤ר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙di.Ber ha.Me.lekhH4428H1696had saidלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Come backשׁ֥וּבוּShu.vuH7725to meאֵלַ֖י'e.LaiH413on the thirdהַשְּׁלִשִֽׁי׃ha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117.”
14and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to themאֲלֵהֶ֗ם'a.le.HemH413as the young menהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206had advisedכַּעֲצַ֤תka.'a.TzatH6098,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Whereas my father made your yokeעֻלְּכֶ֔ם'u.le.KhemH5923heavyאַכְבִּיד֙'akh.BidH3513,אֶֽת־'et-H853Iוַאֲנִ֖יva.'a.NiH589will addאֹסִ֣יף'o.SifH3254toעָלָ֑יו'a.LavH5921your yoke.Whereas my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1scourgedיִסַּ֤רyi.SarH3256youאֶתְכֶם֙'et.KhemH853with whipsבַּשּׁוֹטִ֔יםba.sho.TimH7752,Iוַאֲנִ֖יva.'a.NiH589will scourge youwith scorpionsבָּעֲקְרַבִּֽים׃ba.'ak.ra.BimH6137.”
