4He capturedוַיִּלְכֹּ֛דvai.yil.KodH3920אֶת־'et-H853the fortifiedהַמְּצֻר֖וֹתha.me.tzu.RotH4694אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834citiesעָרֵ֥י'a.ReiH5892of Judahלִֽיהוּדָ֑הli.hu.DahH3063and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935as far asעַד־'ad-H5704Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ סye.ru.sha.LimH3389.

5Then Shemaiahוּֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֤הu.she.ma'.YahH8098the prophetהַנָּבִיא֙ha.na.Vi'H5030cameבָּ֣אba'H935toאֶל־'el-H413Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֔םre.chav.'AmH7346and the leadersוְשָׂרֵ֣יve.sa.ReiH8269of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834had gatheredנֶאֶסְפ֥וּne.'es.FuH622atאֶל־'el-H413Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389because ofמִפְּנֵ֣יmi.pe.NeiH6440Shishakשִׁישָׁ֑קshi.ShakH7895,and he said toוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559them, “This is whatכֹּה־koh-H3541the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: ‘Youאַתֶּם֙'a.TemH859have forsaken Meעֲזַבְתֶּ֣ם'a.zav.TemH5800אֹתִ֔י'o.TiH853;thereforeוְאַף־ve.'af-H637,Iאֲנִ֛י'a.NiH589have forsakenעָזַ֥בְתִּי'a.Zav.tiH5800youאֶתְכֶ֖ם'et.KhemH853into the handבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of Shishakשִׁישָֽׁק׃shi.ShakH7895.’”

6So the leadersשָׂרֵֽי־sa.rei-H8269of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and the kingוְהַמֶּ֑לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428humbled themselvesוַיִּכָּנְע֥וּvai.yi.ka.ne.'UH3665and saidוַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “The LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068isrighteousצַדִּ֥יק׀tza.DikH6662.”

7When the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sawוּבִרְא֤וֹתu.vir.'otH7200thatכִּ֣יkiH3588they had humbled themselvesנִכְנָ֔עוּnikh.Na.'uH3665,the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the LORDיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068cameהָיָה֩ha.YahH1961toאֶל־'el-H413Shemaiahשְׁמַֽעְיָ֧ה׀she.ma'.YahH8098,sayingלֵאמֹ֛רle.MorH559, “They have humbled themselvesנִכְנְע֖וּnikh.ne.'UH3665;I will notלֹ֣אlo'H3808destroy themאַשְׁחִיתֵ֑ם'ash.chi.TemH7843,but will soon grantוְנָתַתִּ֨י כִּמְעַט֙ve.na.ta.Ti kim.'AtH5414 H4592themdeliveranceלִפְלֵיטָ֔הlif.lei.TahH6413.My wrathחֲמָתִ֛יcha.ma.TiH2534will notוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808be poured outתִתַּ֧ךְti.TakhH5413on Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖םbi.ru.sha.LimH3389throughבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027Shishakשִׁישָֽׁק׃shi.ShakH7895.

8Neverthelessכִּ֥יkiH3588,they will becomeיִהְיוּ־yih.yu-H1961hisservantsלַעֲבָדִ֑יםla.'a.va.DimH5650,so that they may learnוְיֵדְעוּ֙ve.ye.de.'UH3045the difference between serving Meעֲב֣וֹדָתִ֔יa.Vo.da.TiH5656and servingוַעֲבוֹדַ֖תva.'a.vo.DatH5656the kingsמַמְלְכ֥וֹתmam.le.KhotH4467of other landsהָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ סha.'a.ra.TzotH776.”

10Then Kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboamרְחַבְעָם֙re.chav.'AmH7346madeוַיַּ֨עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213bronzeנְחֹ֑שֶׁתne.Cho.shetH5178shieldsמָגִנֵּ֖יma.gi.NeiH4043in their placeתַּחְתֵּיהֶ֔םtach.tei.HemH8478and committed themוְהִפְקִ֗ידve.hif.KidH6485toעַל־'al-H5921the careיַד֙yadH3027of the captainsשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of the guardהָרָצִ֔יםha.ra.TzimH7323on dutyהַשֹּׁ֣מְרִ֔יםha.Sho.me.RimH8104at the entranceפֶּ֖תַחPe.tachH6607to the royalהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428palaceבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.

11Andוַיְהִ֛יvay.HiH1961wheneverמִדֵּי־mi.dei-H1767the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428enteredב֥וֹאVo'H935the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,the guardsהָרָצִים֙ha.ra.TzimH7323would goבָּ֤אוּBa.'uH935with him,bearingוּנְשָׂא֔וּםu.ne.sa.'UmH5375the shields,and later they would return themוֶהֱשִׁב֖וּםve.he.shi.VumH7725toאֶל־'el-H413the guardroomתָּ֥א הָרָצִֽים׃ta' ha.ra.TzimH7323 H8372.

12Because Rehoboam humbled himselfוּבְהִכָּֽנְע֗וֹu.ve.hi.ka.ne.'OH3665,the angerאַף־'af-H639of the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068turned awayשָׁ֤בshavH7725from himמִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙mi.Me.nuH4480,and He did notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808destroy him completelyלְהַשְׁחִ֖ית לְכָלָ֑הle.hash.Chit le.kha.LahH7843 H3617.Indeedוְגַם֙ve.GamH1571,conditionsדְּבָרִ֥יםde.va.RimH1697wereהָיָ֖הha.YahH1961goodטוֹבִֽים׃ סto.VimH2896in Judahבִּֽיהוּדָ֔הbi.hu.DahH3063.
