1Now Jehoshaphatלִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֛טli.ho.sha.FatH3092hadוַיְהִ֧יvay.HiH1961an abundanceלָרֹ֑בla.RoH7230of richesעֹ֥שֶׁר'O.sherH6239and honorוְכָב֖וֹדve.kha.VodH3519,and he allied himself with Ahabלְאַחְאָֽב׃le.'ach.'AvH256by marriageוַיִּתְחַתֵּ֖ןvai.yit.cha.TenH2859.

2And some yearsשָׁנִ֤יםsha.NimH8141laterלְקֵ֨ץle.KetzH7093he went downוַיֵּרֶד֩vai.ye.RedH3381toאֶל־'el-H413visit Ahabאַחְאָב֙'ach.'AvH256in Samariaלְשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹןle.Sho.me.RonH8111,where Ahabאַחְאָ֜ב'ach.'AvH256sacrificedוַיִּֽזְבַּֽח־vai.yiz.bach-H2076manyלָרֹ֔בla.RoH7230sheepצֹ֤אןtzonH6629and cattleוּבָקָר֙u.va.KarH1241for himand the peopleוְלָעָ֖םve.la.'AmH5971אֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834with himעִמּ֑וֹi.MoH5973and urged himוַיְסִיתֵ֕הוּvay.si.Te.huH5496to march upלַעֲל֖וֹתla.'a.LotH5927toאֶל־'el-H413Ramoth-gileadרָמ֥וֹת גִּלְעָֽד׃ra.Mot gil.'AdH7418 H1568.

3Ahabאַחְאָ֣ב'ach.'AvH256kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478askedוַיֹּ֜אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֶל־'el-H413Jehoshaphatיְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ye.ho.sha.FatH3092kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063, “Will you goהֲתֵלֵ֥ךְha.te.LekhH1980with meעִמִּ֖י'i.MiH5973against Ramoth-gileadרָמֹ֣ת גִּלְעָ֑דra.Mot gil.'AdH7418 H1568?”And Jehoshaphat repliedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Iכָּמ֤וֹנִיka.Mo.niH3644amas youכָמ֙וֹךָ֙kha.Mo.khaH3644are,and my peopleוּכְעַמְּךָ֣u.khe.'a.me.KhaH5971areyour peopleעַמִּ֔י'a.MiH5971; we will joinyouוְעִמְּךָ֖ve.'i.me.KhaH5973in the warבַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ba.mil.cha.MahH4421.”

4But Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֖טye.ho.sha.FatH3092also saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478, “Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994inquireדְּרָשׁ־de.rosh-H1875firstכַיּ֖וֹםkhai.YomH3117אֶת־'et-H853for the wordדְּבַ֥רde.VarH1697of the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.”

5So the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֥לYis.ra.'ElH3478אֶֽת־'et-H853assembledוַיִּקְבֹּ֨ץvai.yik.BotzH6908the prophetsהַנְּבִאִים֮ha.ne.vi.'ImH5030,fourאַרְבַּ֣ע'ar.Ba'H702hundredמֵא֣וֹתme.'otH3967menאִישׁ֒'ishH376,and asked themוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Should we goהֲנֵלֵ֞ךְha.ne.LekhH1980to warלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421againstאֲלֵהֶ֗ם'a.le.HemH413אֶל־'el-H413Ramoth-gileadרָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָ֛דra.Mot gil.'AdH7418 H1568,orאִם־'im-H518should we refrainאֶחְדָּ֑ל'ech.DalH2308?” “Go upעֲלֵ֔ה'a.LehH5927,”they repliedוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “and Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430will deliver itוְיִתֵּ֥ןve.yi.TenH5414into the handבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH3027of the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.”

6But Jehoshaphatיְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔טye.Ho.o.sha.FatH3092askedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Is there notהַאֵ֨יןha.'EinH369stillע֑וֹדodH5750a prophetנָבִ֛יאna.Vi'H5030of the LORDלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068hereפֹּ֥הpohH6311of whom we can inquireוְנִדְרְשָׁ֖ה מֵאֹתֽוֹ׃ve.nid.re.Shah me.'o.ToH853 H1875?”

7The kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל׀Yis.ra.'ElH3478answeredוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֶֽל־'el-H413יְהוֹשָׁפָ֡טye.ho.sha.FatH3092, “There is stillע֣וֹדodH5750oneאֶחָ֡ד'e.ChadH259manאִישׁ־'ish-H376through whom we can inquireלִדְרוֹשׁ֩lid.ro.VoshH1875אֶת־'et-H853of the LORDיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068מֵֽאֹת֜וֹme.'o.ToH853,but Iוַאֲנִ֣יva.'a.NiH589hate himשְׂנֵאתִ֗יהוּse.ne.Ti.huH8130becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588he neverאֵ֠ינֶנּוּ'Ei.ne.nuH369prophesiesמִתְנַבֵּ֨אmit.na.Be'H5012anything goodלְטוֹבָה֙le.to.VahH2896for meעָלַ֤י'a.LaiH5921,but onlyכִּ֣יkiH3588כָל־khol-H3605יָמָ֣יוya.MavH3117badלְרָעָ֔הle.ra.'AhH7451.Heה֖וּאhu'H1931is Micaiahמִיכָ֣יְהוּmi.Kha.ye.huH4321sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Imlahיִמְלָ֑אyim.La'H3229.” “The kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428should notאַל־'al-H408sayוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559thatכֵּֽן׃KenH3651!”Jehoshaphatיְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔טye.Ho.o.sha.FatH3092repliedיֹאמַ֥רyo.MarH559.

8So the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶל־Yis.ra.'El 'el-H3478 H413calledוַיִּקְרָא֙vai.yik.Ra'H7121oneאֶחָ֑ד'e.ChadH259of his officialsסָרִ֖יסsa.RisH5631and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Bringמַהֵ֖רma.HerH4116MicaiahH4319sonבֶן־ven-H1121of Imlah at onceיִמְלָֽא׃yim.La'H3229.”

9Dressedמְלֻבָּשִׁ֤יםme.lu.ba.ShimH3847in royal attireבְּגָדִים֙be.ga.DimH899,the kingוּמֶ֣לֶךְu.Me.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֡לYis.ra.'ElH3478and Jehoshaphatוִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֣טvi.ho.sha.FatH3092kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֡הye.hu.DahH3063were sittingיוֹשְׁבִים֩ אִ֨ישׁyo.she.Vim 'ishH376 H3427onעַל־'al-H5921their thronesכִּסְא֜וֹkis.'OH3678וְיֹשְׁבִ֣יםve.yo.she.VimH3427at the threshing floorבְּגֹ֔רֶןbe.Go.renH1637by the entranceפֶּ֖תַחPe.tachH6607of the gateשַׁ֣עַרSha.'arH8179of Samariaשֹׁמְר֑וֹןsho.me.RonH8111,with allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the prophetsהַ֨נְּבִיאִ֔יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030prophesyingמִֽתְנַבְּאִ֖יםmit.na.be.'ImH5012before themלִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃lif.nei.HemH6440.

10Now Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּ֥הוּtzid.ki.Ya.huH6667sonבֶֽן־ven-H1121of Chenaanahכְּנַעֲנָ֖הke.na.'a.NahH3668had madeוַיַּ֥עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213for himselfironבַרְזֶ֑לvar.ZelH1270hornsקַרְנֵ֣יkar.NeiH7161and declaredוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “This is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: ‘With theseבְּאֵ֛לֶּהbe.'E.lehH428you shall goreתְּנַגַּ֥חte.na.GachH5055אֶת־'et-H853the Arameansאֲרָ֖ם'a.RamH758untilעַד־'ad-H5704they are finished offכַּלּוֹתָֽם׃ka.lo.TamH3615.’”

11And allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the prophetsהַ֨נְּבִאִ֔יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030were prophesyingנִבְּאִ֥יםni.be.'ImH5012the sameכֵּ֖ןkenH3651,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Go upעֲלֵ֞ה'a.LehH5927to Ramoth-gileadרָמֹ֤ת גִּלְעָד֙ra.Mot gil.'AdH7418 H1568and triumphוְהַצְלַ֔חve.hatz.LachH6743,for the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068will deliverוְנָתַ֥ןve.na.TanH5414itinto the handבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH3027of the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.”

Micaiah Prophesies against Ahab

(1 Kings 22:13–28)

12Then the messengerוְהַמַּלְאָ֞ךְve.ha.mal.'AkhH4397whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834had goneהָלַ֣ךְ׀ha.LakhH1980to callלִקְרֹ֣אlik.Ro'H7121Micaiahלְמִיכָ֗יְהוּle.mi.Kha.ye.huH4321instructed himדִּבֶּ֤רdi.BerH1696אֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413לֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֞הhi.NehH2009,with oneפֶּֽה־peh-H6310accordאֶחָ֥ד'e.ChadH259the wordsדִּבְרֵ֧יdiv.ReiH1697of the prophetsהַנְּבִאִ֛יםha.ne.vi.'ImH5030are favorableט֖וֹבTovH2896toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428.So pleaseנָ֧אna'H4994let your wordsדְבָרְךָ֛de.va.re.KhaH1697beוִֽיהִי־vi.hi-H1961likeכְּאַחַ֥דke.'a.ChadH259theirs,and speakוְדִבַּ֥רְתָּve.di.Bar.taH1696favorablyטּֽוֹב׃TovH2896.”

13But Micaiahמִיכָ֑יְהוּmi.Kha.ye.huH4321saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “As surely as the LORDיְהוָ֕ה כִּ֛יYah.weh kiH3068 H3588אֶת־'et-H853livesחַי־chai-H2416,I will speakאֲדַבֵּֽר׃'a.da.BerH1696whateverאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834my Godאֱלֹהַ֖י'e.lo.HaiH430אֹת֥וֹ'o.ToH853tells meיֹאמַ֥רyo.MarH559.”

14When Micaiah arrivedוַיָּבֹא֮vai.ya.Vo'H935אֶל־'el-H413הַמֶּלֶךְ֒ha.me.leKhH4428,the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428askedוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559himאֵלָ֗יו'e.LavH413, “Micaiahמִיכָה֙mi.KhahH4318,should we goהֲנֵלֵ֞ךְha.ne.LekhH1980to warלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421againstאֶל־'el-H413Ramoth-gileadרָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָ֛דra.Mot gil.'AdH7418 H1568,orאִם־'im-H518should we refrainאֶחְדָּ֑ל'ech.DalH2308?” “Go upעֲל֣וּ'a.LuH5927and triumphוְהַצְלִ֔יחוּve.hatz.Li.chuH6743,”Micaiah repliedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “for they will be deliveredוְיִנָּתְנ֖וּve.yi.na.te.NuH5414into your handבְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃be.yed.KhemH3027.”

15But the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to himאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413, “How manyעַד־ כַּמֶּ֥ה'ad- ka.MehH5704 H4100timesפְעָמִ֖יםfe.'a.MimH6471must Iאֲנִ֣י'a.NiH589make you swearמַשְׁבִּיעֶ֑ךָmash.bi.'E.khaH7650אֲ֠שֶׁר'a.SherH834notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808to tell meתְדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלַ֛יte.da.Ber 'e.LaiH1696 H413anything butרַק־rak-H7535the truthאֱמֶ֖ת'e.MetH571in the nameבְּשֵׁ֥םbe.ShemH8034of the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068?”

16So Micaiah declaredוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559: “I sawרָאִ֤יתִיra.'I.tiH7200אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478scatteredנְפוֹצִ֣יםne.fo.TzimH6327onעַל־'al-H5921the hillsהֶֽהָרִ֔יםhe.ha.RimH2022like sheepכַּצֹּ֕אןka.TzonH6629אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834withoutאֵין־'ein-H369a shepherdרֹעֶ֑הro.'EhH7462.And the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, ‘Theseלָאֵ֔לֶּהla.'E.lehH428peoplehave noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808masterאֲדֹנִ֣ים'a.do.NimH113;let each oneאִישׁ־'ish-H376returnיָשׁ֥וּבוּya.Shu.vuH7725homeלְבֵית֖וֹle.vei.ToH1004in peaceבְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃be.sha.LomH7965.’”

17Then the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֑טye.ho.sha.FatH3092, “Did I notהֲלֹא֙ha.Lo'H3808tellאָמַ֣רְתִּי'a.Mar.tiH559youאֵלֶ֔יךָ'e.Lei.khaH413that he neverלֹא־lo'-H3808prophesiesיִתְנַבֵּ֥אyit.na.Be'H5012goodט֖וֹבTovH2896for meעָלַ֛י'a.LaiH5921,but onlyכִּ֥י אִם־ki 'im-H3588 H518badלְרָֽע׃ סle.Ra'H7451?”

18Micaiah continuedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Thereforeלָכֵ֖ןla.KhenH3651hearשִׁמְע֣וּshim.'UH8085the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068:I sawרָאִ֤יתִיra.'I.tiH7200אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sittingיוֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427onעַל־'al-H5921His throneכִּסְא֔וֹkis.'OH3678,and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the hostצְבָ֤אtze.Va'H6635of heavenהַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064standingעֹֽמְדִ֔ים'o.me.DimH5975onעַל־'al-H5921His rightיְמִינ֖וֹye.mi.NoH3225and on His leftוּשְׂמֹאלֽוֹ׃u.se.mo.LoH8040.

19And the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, ‘Whoמִ֤יmiH4310will enticeיְפַתֶּה֙ye.fa.TehH6601אֶת־'et-H853Ahabאַחְאָ֣ב'ach.'AvH256kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478to march upוְיַ֕עַלve.Ya.'alH5927and fallוְיִפֹּ֖לve.yi.PolH5307at Ramoth-gileadבְּרָמ֣וֹת גִּלְעָ֑דbe.ra.Mot gil.'AdH7418 H1568?’And oneזֶ֚הzehH2088suggestedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559thisכָּ֔כָהKa.khahH3602,and anotherוְזֶ֖הve.ZehH2088אֹמֵ֣ר'o.MerH559אֹמֵ֥ר'o.MerH559thatכָּֽכָה׃Ka.khahH3602.

20Then a spiritהָר֗וּחַha.Ru.achH7307came forwardוַיֵּצֵ֣אvai.ye.Tze'H3318,stoodוַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙vai.ya.'a.ModH5975beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, ‘Iאֲנִ֣י'a.NiH589will entice himאֲפַתֶּ֑נּוּ'a.fat.Te.nuH6601.’ ‘By what meansבַּמָּֽה׃ba.MahH4100?’askedוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the LORDיְהוָ֛ה אֵלָ֖יוYah.weh 'e.LavH3068 H413.

21And he repliedוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, ‘I will go outאֵצֵא֙'e.Tze'H3318and beוְהָיִ֙יתִי֙ve.ha.Yi.tiH1961a lyingשֶׁ֔קֶרShe.kerH8267spiritלְר֣וּחַle.Ru.achH7307in the mouthsבְּפִ֖יbe.FiH6310of allכָּל־kol-H3605his prophetsנְבִיאָ֑יוne.vi.'AvH5030.’ ‘You will surely entice himתְּפַתֶּה֙te.fa.TehH6601andוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571prevailתּוּכָ֔לtu.KhalH3201,’saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559the LORD. ‘Goצֵ֖אtze'H3318and doוַעֲשֵׂה־va.'a.seh-H6213itכֵֽן׃KhenH3651.’

22Soוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258you seeהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068has putנָתַ֤ןna.TanH5414a lyingשֶׁ֔קֶרShe.kerH8267spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307in the mouthsבְּפִ֖יbe.FiH6310of theseאֵ֑לֶּה'E.lehH428prophets of yoursנְבִיאֶ֣יךָne.vi.'Ei.khaH5030,and the LORDוַֽיהוָ֔הva.Yah.wehH3068has pronouncedדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696disasterרָעָֽה׃ סra.'AhH7451against youעָלֶ֖יךָ'a.Lei.khaH5921.”

23Then Zedekiahצִדְקִיָּ֣הוּtzid.ki.Ya.huH6667sonבֶֽן־ven-H1121of Chenaanahכְּנַעֲנָ֔הke.na.'a.NahH3668went upוַיִּגַּשׁ֙vai.yi.GashH5066,struckוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221אֶת־'et-H853Micaiahמִיכָ֖יְהוּmi.Kha.ye.huH4321inעַל־'al-H5921the faceהַלֶּ֑חִיha.Le.chiH3895,and demandedוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whichאֵ֣י זֶ֤ה'ei zehH335 H2088wayהַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ha.De.rekhH1870did the Spiritרֽוּחַ־Ru.ach-H7307of the LORDיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068gowhen He departedעָבַ֧ר'a.VarH5674from meמֵאִתִּ֖יme.'i.TiH854to speakלְדַבֵּ֥רle.da.BerH1696with youאֹתָֽךְ׃'o.TakhH854?”

24Micaiahמִיכָ֔יְהוּ הִנְּךָ֥mi.Kha.ye.hu hi.ne.KhaH4321 H2005repliedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You will soon seeרֹאֶ֖הro.'EhH7200,on thatהַה֑וּאha.Hu'H1931dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117whenאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you goתָּב֛וֹאta.Vo'H935andhideלְהֵחָבֵֽא׃le.he.cha.Ve'H2244in an innerחֶ֥דֶרChe.derH2315roomבְּחֶ֖דֶרbe.Che.derH2315.”

25And the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478declaredוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Takeקְחוּ֙ke.ChuH3947אֶת־'et-H853Micaiahמִיכָ֔יְהוּmi.Kha.ye.huH4321and return himוַהֲשִׁיבֻ֖הוּva.ha.shi.Vu.huH7725toאֶל־'el-H413Amonאָמ֣וֹן'a.MonH526the governorשַׂר־sar-H8269of the cityהָעִ֑ירha.'IrH5892and toוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413Joashיוֹאָ֖שׁyo.'AshH3101the king’sהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,
